The next day had finally arrived—the day of the academy assessment—and Grey was already awake, his belongings packed neatly into a single, compact backpack.
He had risen even before his mother and Jesse, sitting in the quiet house, ready and waiting for his departure.
When Clara and Jesse finally emerged into the living room, drawn by the early morning rustling, the weight of the moment hit them; today was the day Grey would be leaving their side.
As they entered the room, they both froze in their tracks, staring at Grey with expressions of utter bewilderment.
Grey failed to notice their shock until Jesse's high-pitched voice pulled him back to his current reality.
"Arghhhhhh! What on earth happened? Am I still dreaming?" Jesse cried out, her eyes fixed on Grey with an intense, confused stare.
