A few moments ago, Grey, Eclat—the small female elf—and her mother were still deep within the sanctuary of the forest.
He had just narrowly defeated the two Level 5 beasts, and now he lay on the forest floor, panting heavily in a state of utter exhaustion.
His internal reservoir was dry; his mana had been completely depleted in the life-or-death struggle.
Sprinting forward, Eclat threw her tiny arms around Grey, hugging him tightly with a bright, genuine smile illuminating her face.
"Thank you, Uncle Demon! You were really awesome back there," Eclat chirped.
She disengaged from the embrace and beamed at Grey, her eyes wide with admiration.
'I normally would have gotten angry at someone calling me a demon, but right now, I don't care. She just reminds me too much of Jesse,' he thought.
He attempted to push himself up from the dirt, but his movements were cut short as a colossal pressure suddenly descended upon the entire area.
