Tap. Tap.
At first, I didn't move. I was warm under the blanket, half sunk into sleep, and the steady rain outside had already lulled me into a very calm state. The sound blended with it, and I told myself it was nothing, probably just the storm knocking things around, or maybe the wind pushing something against the window.
Tap. Tap.
It came again, and this time it was louder and more deliberate.
I groaned, pulling the blanket off me and dragging myself out of bed. My head was heavy from sleep, and my body wanted to sink back into the mattress, but the noise was crawling under my skin, poking at me until I couldn't ignore it anymore.
I shuffled to the window and yanked the curtains aside. I didn't dare open it, not when the rain was already lashing hard outside, but I pressed close enough to peer through the streaked glass.
