Astraea's POV
I looked at Lysandra, my throat dry, and asked the question I'd been circling around since the moment she started talking. "What do you want from me in exchange for helping Zephyra?"
I already knew the price wouldn't be small. With gods and demons, it never was, and this wasn't even my first deal since stepping into the human world.
Veylan already had me tied up in one, though I still didn't know what he'd ask of me when it was time to collect. He just smiled at me with those grey eyes and made me feel like a fool for agreeing, and here I was, ready to do it again.
Another deal, another risk, and all because of Zephyra.
Lysandra gave me that subtle smile of hers, the one that made it clear she was in control. "Tell me," she said, "are you willing to sacrifice absolutely anything to save your bride from becoming an empty vessel?"
My brows pulled together. "Don't bother with the theatrics," I said flatly. "Just tell me what you want."
