By the time Malevolence could send reinforcements to someone, the worst of the fighting was already over. Although there were still an unknown number of hornets dispersed in the wilderness—nobody knew with absolute certainty how many there were in the first place—the fighting near the forts had calmed down.
At least 50 thousand hornets were slain by the bees' estimate—a staggering amount! There were entire piles of their bodies lying near the position of the bees.
This was a hundred's worth of hornet hives, although the Beehound scouts still couldn't find any.
The victory would've been great if not for the losses that bees suffered.
Most forts have withstood the attack bravely, but the number of attacking hornets was simply too high. The force that Malevolence's division fought earlier was merely a tiny offshoot compared to what appeared now. They crawled out of seemingly anywhere, overwhelming the defenses of bees with their pure numbers.
