Chapter 310 - Journey to the golden City(11)

Avere already had the blade in hand, turned into what seemed to be a simple sword with a scabbard attached to it, something that seriously made him rethink the fact of the matter as to how it decided what form the thing was able to take and not to take, feeling it almost vibrating as Leyk looked at it, as if he was hearing a voice inside his head that was screaming in elation at being wielded by a person that was that much better than the previous wielder, that being him, who had only ever really used it to cut off a wolf monster's head and some other illusions, all of which had not really been alive, only memories to satisfy himself.

He could really not blame it if he was honest to himself.

If Avere would have turned into a blade after he passed the trial, something that from what he could tell, he might still become eventually, a body of Cadon being able to be forged into weapons after all, his body being made of Cadon, and such, he would have wanted to be wielded by someone like Leyk as well, someone through which he could experience a number of things, kill many people, or, in this case, just cut many people, fulfilling the purpose of his smithing.

"The blade was given to me by the same guy that called himself a messenger and gave me the sun-dial" he began, purposefully reducing 'the' messenger to just 'a' messenger rather than trying to explain the very archetypes that had almost broke his mind and frustrated him so very much as he had first heard of them, sparing them of that annoying and long-winded ordeal.

"It is supposedly able to freely change forms" he added, seeing a light glowing in Leyk's eyes that was like a crimson flame fuelled not by hatred, not by annoyance, but by pure greed and interest, ready to hear what Avere was to tell him of the blade now, knowing there was more to follow.

"According to him it is unable to kill" the light grew stronger as it continued raging in the bright red eyes of Leyk that seemed to be slurring the speech of Avere now that he looked at them for a prolonged period of time, something that made him quickly turn his head away, fearing that he might be getting hypnotized before the enemy that wasn't even here.

"They told me it was for you" together with somethign else, but, Avere secretly thought, better not to give him a compass with which he could find other people, absolving his own purpose with the compass, as the one who was given that, and the only one, or so would he say should he be asked, that was able so summon and wield it...which, now that he thought about it again, collided heavily with the fact that Leyk was able to wield the blade that he already stretched towards him, the grip for his taking if he should so choose.

As Leyk took the sword that instantly became a five foot long weapon, swung cross guard with which one could catch the blade of the enemy, two-sided blade focused on being useable with most common techniques, Leyk not really having developed much of a personal style yet, the scabbard that had previously been on it instantly dissolving, the silver colour changing, as if blood had been put into the smithing process, darkening it to a rather great effect.

It was quite beautiful if he might be honest, that was what Leyk wanted to say as he saw his own bright red eyes reflected of the dark blade, long, with a good grip reminiscent of his previous one that he had also used to kill Manug permanently, the very body he now used, the blade he had used to blow up his, Manug's very own head.

Nothing about that was to laugh about, but still, Leyk could not help but be grinning wildly as he realized that he finally wielded a blade that was so sharp he could cut an entire tree without much trouble, be it that his own strength probably also helped with that, one that would allow him to ask all the questions he wanted, one that would surely make anyone think twice before attacking he exaggerated a bit, not realizing the stupidity worn by many a person.

In the end, sadly enough, most people would still be attacking him without thinking much about it, even if they knew the function of his blade, believing themselves to be safe, to be able to stand the pain of being dead and yet not dead, the insanity of feeling ones own body fall to the ground as the head was dismembered, the eternity that followed to that action as the mind tries everything it could to try and find some sort of solution that was destined to never appear, the absence of digestion, and yet, the screaming of the mind as the body stopped sending any kind of signal.

His heart felt a bit lighter as he swung it once, Avere taking another step back after having takenone just shortly before in fear he might be attacked, Kehit smiling wildly as well, a weirdly exotic grin atop her face, her lips curled in a grotesque way as she thought about various different uses for such a blade, but was also expecting something different, wanting to get off of this island and towards this so-called golden city as soon as possible, just as much as Avere who was itching to finally talk about that.

Speaking of Avere, finally grabbing the chance to speak about the city, he began to ask.

"I think we are done here... aren't we?" he began, not expecting any answer but seeing Leyk continue swinging the blade, agreement basically written atop his face, easily readable as they at least had a similar way of acting with their bodies, Kehit nodding, the burly man nodding and grabbing the hand of the aloof boy who had seemingly been standing there and silently staring into empty space.

He looked at the compass that had suddenly appeared in his hand, seeing that the needle pointed right next to them, something that made his back freeze with sweat he was not previously aware he could produce right now, believing that this might have somehow all been the mission.

About a thousand foot away there were the chains, dozens all over, but there was only one where it was pointing, a thick one, made to work as a bridge as most in this place, big enough for a few people to walk side by side, barely having to jump over some of the links here and there, something he had always, almost in a subconscious state been going around him.

It was pretty good over all, but as he saw that, his shoulders sank down and he let out a disappointed sigh, realizing that he was still stuck in this accursed place, gesturing for the others that had already understood him to follow, Leyk seemingly turning the blade into thin air but in actuality already having realized how to store it, something Avere was doing only by instinct.
