Chapter 54 - Tsushima

[Hajime POV]

I was honestly surprised to feel how weak the magic was on Tsushima.

Though now that I was here, I could understand why Yasaka recommended this island for my base.

With my abilities, the lack of magic was hardly an issue, and even if it were, I'd eventually be able to deal with it.

The main benefit was that, because of the weak ambient magic, this place was practically empty of any supernaturals.

It's like a reverse oasis. With everywhere else being better, what reason would anyone stay here? Even though the gods have a treaty to ignore the land, they'd easily go back on their word if they felt it was worth it. But a place like this? Totally not worth starting a war.

As for the humans living here, the few 'families' that are here are mainly older ones staying out of love for their hometown. Having lived here for so long, what's a few more years for them?

Both the lack of magic and low supernatural presence made this place the perfect base.

Not even a rogue would come here, since the main reason people become rogues is for strength; they'd never come to a place that weakens them.

Meanwhile, his group? They might not even feel a difference. While using human calculation magic, they might feel weaker, but for everything from the gacha? Likely nothing at all. For example, Monet's 'snow magic' comes from her logia fruit. Her world never had magic, so it won't change how strong her fruit is.

Now, if she were to combine it with snow magic from DxD, then she might feel a difference since her magic would be affected by the ambient magic. Still, though, it should never go below her logia's capabilities.

That said, it was unknown if true magic systems, like Jenny's or Welf's, would be affected too.

Though not the same type of magic, the principles behind them were similar enough.

Either way, that was something for future me to deal with.

As I walked around Tsushima, I could sense a few magic users around the city. They were incredibly noticeable thanks to their reserves, which clearly dwarfed all others several times over.

It was a strange feeling, as my magic sensing felt much better here than in Kyoto.

From what I could tell, it was the low ambient magic, making those who used magic stand out more.

Back in Kyoto, with how saturated the place was, it was hard to differentiate between magicians at lower levels and people with naturally large magic reserves.

Here, though?

The distinction was much clearer.

It was like seeing an eight-foot-tall person at a midget convention.

Their magic reserves were like beacons on the island. Of those that I could sense, most of them were hovering around the boundary between low and mid class.

Not surprising given what I know now, though I do hope none of them interfere with my plans.

-----

Several hours later, I had already left the city, exploring the island with my ninja skills.

The island was honestly incredibly boring. There was nothing magically interesting, nobody with immense power, and no rogue magicians of any kind.

Instead, I took the time to scout out the island and look for a suitable place to set up my base.

With so many mountains on the island, most of which are far away from any roads, there was no shortage of places to put my base.

Though certainly a little tacky, placing it on a mountaintop to overlook the island wasn't the worst idea, and preferably somewhere near the sea.

It took a while, but eventually I found the perfect place.

In the center of Tsushima was Aso Bay, which had multiple islands in the middle. Picking the largest island, the place I decided on was around the center of the bay.

It had the perfect view of the surroundings, and thanks to my haki, I could sense half the island from here.

Despite having haki, it's still not the full-strength haki that Doflamingo has, which could probably cover most of Japan.

Of my current assimilations, Doflamingo has reached 7%, and Mother Carmel has reached 32%. Most of that growth is likely because of the homies I've made recently, as well as playing around with Hydra's soul.

Anyway, having determined where to put my future base, I called Yasaka and asked if she could send a clone over to ward the place for me. She was the only person I could ask about this, as it would prevent others from discovering it.

Luckily, thanks to the clone helping with her work, Yasaka had much more free time than before.

Unfortunately, it would take about a week for her to plan the trip without causing disruptions.

That wasn't much of an issue, though.

I still had some preparations to make for the base itself.

Since the mountain, or maybe a hill, given its height? Either way, it needed to be flattened.

Bringing out Yatsufusa, I had it summon the three devils I'd killed and had them get to work.

While using spells specifically for this work would be better, devils' imagination magic worked just fine regardless, though it was certainly slower than it could be.

Aside from an energy drain to keep them going, there were no issues.

You might think that imagination magic means requiring a working brain, or magic requires a soul, but Yatsufusa was the answer to both questions.

In essence, Yatsufusa was the brain. When it claimed the bodies of the devils, it gained their memories, allowing it to move the puppets as if they were still alive.

As for the soul holding magic, it drew energy from Yatsufusa, rather than the puppets, although when it got low, I gave Yatsufusa some energy.

-----

After waiting for a week, Yasaka finally arrived to ward the area.

The wards ended up covering nearly a mile in all directions, but that wasn't so bad since it meant I'd be able to go a little crazy with the base.

Yatsufusa was still working on flattening the area for the base, so I was taking a look at my gacha for now.

Over the last several weeks, I've received a lot of good items from the gacha, including what was going to be my base of operations.

{ Konoha Academy }

Yup, I got the building where the Hokage does their work.

Unfortunately, the description made it very clear that it had no jutsu scrolls with information on them.

So I wasn't going to get the forbidden scroll anytime soon.

Still, it was a great base, already designed for those with special abilities, and the administrative heart of Konoha. Jiraiya's memories told me everything I needed to know about it, so I wasn't getting lost anytime soon.

Additionally, there was the school, an aspect I was glad to have, as I had planned on my organization teaching others, similar to Grigori's academy. Nephilim, I think.

After that, there were the character cards I'd gotten.

{ Fawkes }

Dumbledore's phoenix.

Needless to say, I'd be excited to have such a thing.

Fawkes is capable of teleporting, even through Hogwarts' protections. Additionally, he can provide phoenix tears. Not frequently, but enough.

There were also phoenix ash and feathers, both valuable alchemical ingredients that were highly sought after and cost a fortune.

{ Shrek }

Not much to say about him.

He's just an ogre that wants to be left alone.

I might create a place on the island for him to guard. I can't do everything by myself, and of those on the island, only the magicians might give him issues.

{ Jet }

A freedom fighter from the Earth Kingdom, after reaching Ba Sing Se, he was brainwashed by the Dai Lee and died before escaping Lake Laogai.

His entire story was tragic, though his ideas at the start were far too extreme. He was willing to flood a village of people to kill the fire nation troops stationed there.

Ironically enough, his idea would've never worked in the long run.

Excluding the idea that mass murdering civilians for enemy casualties means you're winning, nobody would associate it with his group. They'd probably assume the dam had broken, and if they realized it was sabotage, nobody would think it was the work of freedom fighters.

It's the equivalent of burning down your house to kill a spider. Sure, the spider will die, but the cost isn't worth it.

Still, he's redeemable and could be a useful subordinate. Plus, he doesn't have any bending, so I won't gain anything from assimilating him, especially since I can easily learn his fighting style after a few spars.

{ Starlight }

Annie January, or Starlight, a superhero from the Boys, and like The Deep, is a member of the Seven. The Deep, shortly after she joined, forced her to suck his dick to avoid being kicked off the team.

Actually, this gives me a great idea.

See, as useful as The Deep's powers are, if I assimilate him, then I get his weird zoophilia memories, not to mention all the other stuff he does.

For a while, I'd been wondering whether to summon or assimilate him, since I don't really want the memory of him sexually assaulting someone.

But with Annie's card, it gave me an idea for her getting revenge, while I get to use The Deep's strength.

I'll summon them both, drain most of The Deep's soul, then turn him into a corpse puppet that Annie can kick the groin of as much as she wants.

Everyone wins.

Well, everyone who matters anyway.

{ Crystalsapien }

Essentially, Chromastone from Ben 10. They're capable of absorbing and attacking with energy.

While it can absorb the magic shown in that world, there's no way I'd test if it works on Bael's Power of Destruction.

At least it can counter angels and fallen perfectly, as well as deal with most other magic.

Aside from those characters, I also got lots of interesting items.

{ 100x Full Potions (Tensura) }

Potions capable of healing practically any injury, so long as the person isn't dead.

If I need more potions, then I can dilute a single full potion. The difference between them and high potions, despite a less than 2% purity difference, is a potency of about twenty times.

{ Boat Car }

The underwater car from SpongeBob.

I'm not sure if it will follow physics, but if it does, then it's not much use.

{ Flying Squid Eggs }

Honestly, I have no clue what that is, and I don't think I want to.

{ 2B YoRHa }

Yeah, that 2B.

I was surprised she was considered an item, especially when Red Tornado wasn't.

Maybe it's a matter of desire? Like, she sees herself as a servant to humanity, and thus not her own person?

Who knows.

{ Twice Critical }

A sacred gear made by God, given to me by another sacred gear.

Will it be connected to Heaven's system?

Once I had checked my gains over the last month, I spun the gacha for today.

{ Cynthia }

Potentially a good summon since she has all her Pokémon with her. As champion, she doesn't just have her main team, but over a dozen other Pokémon that she trains. Some of them are significantly weaker, while others can be substituted with any of her main team members.

Ironically, Cynthia herself is the biggest weakness of the card, since all someone has to do is attack her.

I'm not even sure if she has any magical potential. While humans in the Pokémon world are more durable, the few aura and psychic trainers are the only humans with true power, and I know Cynthia is not one of them.

Despite getting several potential summons, I wasn't going to do anything with them for now. I am not only at my shadow clone limit for now, but I still don't even have homes for the others.

For now, I need to focus on clearing the area.

__________

Author's Note:

For the gacha, I'm basically out of item ideas to give, if you couldn't tell by the flying squid eggs. For characters, while I'm nowhere near out, I'll likely be focusing only on the major franchises I know soon enough.

I'm also running low on general ideas of where to take the story, so I'll probably do a larger timeskip before the end of the year. With possibly a few years of events skipped, I'll have more wiggle room, which I so desperately need. Plus, I'll be skipping to more interesting stuff DxD-wise.

Thanks for reading; I'll see you next time!
