Chapter 401 - Chapter 401: Northern State Base

"Has Ultron been destroyed?" Tony rubbed his brows. He actually wanted to create Ultron, but of course the prerequisite was that it couldn't go crazy like the one in the Sky Screen!

And this was exactly the problem that bothered Tony, because he wasn't quite sure whether it was a programming issue that caused Ultron to believe that destroying Earth would bring about an era of peace.

Or maybe the power of the Mind Gem was too strong, which directly allowed Ultron to exceed the programming restrictions Tony had set, thus becoming the entity they saw in the Sky.

Captain America was strongly against him continuing to study Ultron, but Tony had no way to refute his concerns. After all, the lesson from the past in the Sky was there, making him feel unconfident.

He also wanted to study Vision, so he approached Dr. Helen Cho and asked if she could replicate Ultron's process in the screen and create a body like Vision's.

But at this time, Dr. Cho herself was uncertain, because the nanotechnology of her regeneration cradle was not as advanced as that in the Sky, and creating just a body would be useless.

Because the Vision in the Sky was obviously a combination of Jarvis, Ultron, and the Mind Gem. Of course, if Jarvis had simply been teleported in, instead of being partially destroyed, perhaps Jarvis could have become the main consciousness of Vision instead of giving birth to an entirely new individual.

Banner carefully considered Tony's idea and thought it was too risky because they still didn't know enough about the Mind Stone. Now Banner had begun to shift his focus to the Hulk.

Seeing that the Hulk in the Sky knew how to close the door of the Quinjet and also knew to shut down communications, Banner began to realize that the Hulk might not be a complete monster, and obviously had his own thoughts and will.

Before this, Banner had begun to face up to the existence of Hulk, trying not to imagine him as a monster, but as a being equal to himself, and had tried to communicate with him.

Now he was more determined in his own ideas, so he could offer no support for Tony's plans.

There was another gem in the Tesseract, and Tony also wanted to extract it for research, but according to Thor, there was a high probability that it was the Space Gem, which controlled the power of space.

Thor's words made Tony hesitant to act rashly, because he remembered why Loki had wanted to control Erik Selvig. The biggest reason was probably the gem inside the Tesseract and the wormhole that appeared above New York.

Tony knew that the goal of the mastermind behind the scenes might be related to these gems, but he still didn't know the other party's specific purpose. Captain Marvel Carol's investigation in the universe had only revealed that the Chitauri were Thanos's minions.

But Captain Marvel had never encountered Thanos himself. They only knew that he was notorious throughout the universe, and his practice of killing half of his enemies and leaving the other half alive had terrified countless civilizations.

[At Barton's house, the two children were reading. Laura filled the kettle and was about to boil water when she suddenly felt someone behind her. She turned around and found that it was Barton who had returned with his belongings.]

[She had an expression of joyful tears on her face and walked quickly towards him. Barton put down the things in his hand and embraced her.]

[Tony drove his own car to the new Avengers headquarters in the northern part of the state!]

[You could see that the facility had already taken shape. A Quinjet was slowly landing, another was parked on the apron, and a third had just taken off.]

[Inside S.H.I.E.L.D., Hill and Helen Cho were walking and talking, and Dr. Erik Selvig was also holding a stack of documents as he hurriedly walked by with his assistant. Everything seemed very busy.]

[Natasha was alone on the second floor, opening a video that Laura had sent her. It showed her and Barton's child, whom Barton had named 'Nathaniel Pietro Barton'.]

["Look! Say hello to Aunt Natasha!"]

[Natasha looked at the baby in the video and smiled]

[As soon as she put her phone away, Nick Fury's voice came over: "This was flagged by one of our techs. It crashed in the Sea. Could be the Quinjet. But with Stark's stealth tech, we still can't track it."]

[Looking at the longitude and latitude displayed on the tablet, Natasha nodded slightly: "Right."]

[Nick Fury continued with his analysis: "Probably jumped out and swam to Fiji. He'll send a postcard."]

[Natasha likely knew what Banner would write, and lowered her head to say: "'Wish you were here.'"]

[Then she looked at Nick Fury who was slowly walking away: "You sent me to recruit him. You sent me to be the den mother of the Avengers. Did you know then what was going to happen?"]

[Hearing this, Nick Fury came back: "You never know. You hope for the best and make do with what you get. I got a great team."]

[Natasha raised her head slightly: "Nothing lasts forever."]

[Nick Fury pointed at her with the tablet in his hand and said as he walked: "Trouble, Ms. Romanoff. No matter who wins or loses, trouble still comes around."]

[Natasha remained where she was, with her arms folded across her chest, deep in thought.]

[On the other side, Captain America, Thor, and Tony were walking together: "The rules have changed. We're dealing with something new."]

[Tony spread his hands after hearing what Captain America said: "Well, the Vision's artificial intelligence."]

["A machine."]

["So, it doesn't count?" Captain America glanced at Tony.]

["No, it's not like a person lifting the hammer."]

[Captain America extended a hand in agreement: "Right. Different rules for us."]

[Thor, who had been listening, also spoke up: "He can wield the hammer, he can keep the Mind Stone. It's safe with the Vision. These days, safe is in short supply."]

[Captain America suddenly asked curiously: "But if you put the hammer in an elevator..."]

[Before he could finish, Tony answered: "It'll still go up."]

["Elevator's not worthy." Captain America was still puzzling over this issue.]

[Thor smiled and patted Tony on the shoulder: "I'm going to miss these little talks of ours."]

["Well, not if you don't leave." Tony looked at him with a hint of reluctance.]

["I have no choice. The Mind Stone is the fourth of the Infinity Stones to show up in the last few years. It's not a coincidence. Someone has been playing an intricate game and has made pawns of us. Once all these pieces are in position..."]

[The three men walked outside, and Tony answered before Thor could finish: "Triple Yahtzee?"]

[Captain America looked at Thor: "You think you can find out what's coming?"]

["I do." Then Thor looked around and patted Tony on the chest: "Besides this one, there's nothing that can't be explained."]

[Then he walked toward the open space in front, turned around and nodded to the two of them, raised Mjolnir high, and Heimdall opened the Bifrost to teleport him away, leaving only scorched marks on the grass.]]
