Chapter 4 - Urrigon Targaryen's Curse

Early 120 AC

-Dragon pit-

"Why do we have to be here?" said his brother Aemond, arms crossed. The ten nameday boy violet eyes glaring at their surroundings.

Urrigon waited a moment before answering, hands behind his back, watching his nephew Jacaerys learning to command his dragon Vermax.

This was once home to the Sept of Remembrance...until Maegor the cruel destroyed it, Balerion's black flames burning it down to ashes.

Now the Dragonpit had replaced it. A huge domed castle at the crown of Rhaenys's Hill, now housing the very beasts that made them rule Westeros.

"It is due to the king we are forced to watch, dearest brother, "his duel coloured eyes never leaving Jacaerys form, "It's a way to further secure our eldest sister."

"You mean father? How does this secure Rhaenyra?" asks Aemond, the young boys features scrunching in confusion.

Urrigon's eyes finally left Jacaerys form and turned to his brother Aemond, who like their eldest brother Aegon carried all the striking Valyrian traits of the King but unlike their brothers, Aemond's features had a sharpness to them, his shoulder length silver gold brushed back and his face always in a scowl. Which he seemed to have inherited from their mother.

"Aemond, look at them" said Urrigon.

"Why?" whined Aemond.

Urrigon's eyes found his brothers.

"Look"

He watched as his brother turned to look at Rhaenyra's children, their nephews. Jacaerys and Lucerys were attempting to train their dragons, he heard the dragonkeeper comparing the boy's control with Aegon's and his hold over Sunfyre.

How ridiculous.

Urrigon puts his arm around his brother's shoulders to pull him closer.

"Do you see it?"

"See what? Bastards?" sneered Aemond. He also seemed to have inherited their mother's snark.

"Yes Aem, bastards but even with being what they are they have something we both lack brother".

"Dragons…" said Aemond, his hands curling into fists.

"Despite bearing no Targaryen features, they have the thing that makes us true Targaryens special" Urrigon grabbed his brother's face and forced him to look at their right.

"Now what do you see?"

"Aegon and Daeron?" muttered Aemond.

Even though Aegon complained about him earlier that day, he still personally taught Daeron about dragons. This was the one thing Aegon seemed to be better at than anybody and his bond with Sunfyre was proof of it.

The golden dragon had gleaming gold scales, which shone like beaten gold in the sunlight and pale pink wing membranes. Aegon's bond with him was something even the dragonkeepers admired, stating that their bond was as equal as the dragon's beauty.

They watched as Aegon was guiding Daeron, who seemed to be soaking up the information.

"Yes, our two annoying siblings, who both look Targaryen and have dragons, Sunfyre and Tesarion."

The later was a beautiful blue beast her wings were a dark cobalt, while her claws, crest, and belly scales were the color of bright beaten copper. She was disobedient and would not let Daeron close, the young boy being warned by its cobalt blue flames.

Sunfyre through the command of Aegon was their to make sure their youngest brother would not get burnt.

Urrigon let go of his brother's face and removed his arm from his shoulders."What message does that send to everyone?"

"Speak plainly, Urrigon!" snapped Aemond, he had little patience and had grown annoyed.

"The King hopes to show the court that no matter the colouring the bastards are Targaryen".

Jacaerys and Lucerys held no feature of their supposed father Laenor Velayron who had an aquiline nose, silver-white hair and purple eyes.

Compared to his "sons" who had pug noses, brown hair and eyes. He had even heard from the muttering of servants that their newly born brother Joffrey, shared their features.

"And the only ones without dragons are his own two sons, you and I" said Urrigon," You who are our father's very image and I who hold the eyes of our grandmother, Princess Alyssa Targaryen and the hair of our mother the queen".

He saw Aemond's face twist in confusion and then rageful clarity," Is that why we never got any eggs?"

"Eggs?"Urrigon looked at Daeron, who had just successful made Tesarion obey him,the boy leaped into Aegon's arms, laughing and smiling.

"Father never wanted us to have dragons, while all of Rhaenyra's brood were blessed with dragon eggs,Aegon,Daeron and even our sweet sister Helena had to bond with dragons that could have easily killed them".

"You make it sound like father hates us…"said Aemond softly, his violet eyes staring at the ground, face scrunched up.

Urrigon grabbed his brother's face once again, this time gently turning his head towards him. Urrigon was taller than Aemond, his dark amethyst staring at him, it held a strange warmth.

"He doesn't hate us you twat…but he doesn't love us either"

He let go and both continued watching from the sidelines.

His brother Aemond's eyes were now filled with hatred and envy.

Urrigon did not let his show.

-Royal Apartments-

"Did you see it Urig!?Did you see me!?I was like DRACARYS!and Tesarion was like rawr and th–"

Urrigon tried to follow his younger brother ramblings as Daeron dragged him by the arm through the royal apartments. He couldn't blame him for his excitement though. Ser Richard Thorne followed the pair.

"Yes Daeron, I was there" sighed Urrigon. He was escorting his brother to their mothers chambers. Ever since the incident with Lucerys and Daeron she had always kept him close to her.

"But you weren't paying attention, you and Aemond were busy looking at .." Daeron words trailed off, the eight namedays boy was suddenly aware of his surroundings.

Urrigon watched as his little brother's violet eyes fearfully scanned the corridors, his body tense.

Servants passed by, some giving curious glances to the pair.

"Is there a problem my prince?" asked Ser Thorne, the kingsguard already on guard.

"No, Daeron is just feeling tired from dragon training,"said Urrigon, putting his hand on his brother's shoulder.

Daeron's grip was tight on his brother's sleeve, his eyes darted frantically, never leaving the servants that passed.

"Daeron"

His little brother's eyes finally met his."What..did you say Urig?"his voice nervous.

Urrigon softly grabbed his brother's hand "I said you were tired". Urigon was the one leading the three of them now, dragging his brother alongs ," That Tesarion seemed to be too much for you.."

"No she isn't" rebutted Daeron but didn't let go of his hand.

"Then why did you need Aegon's help?"

"Because.."mumbled Daeron.

"Ser Throne, it seems that my brother has lost his tongue, whatever shall we do?"

"We must find it immediately my prince, a mute prince would be a terrible sight" said the Kingsguard smirking.

"I'm not mute.." said the youngest,Urrigon feeling him letting go of his hand.

He felt his little brother's tiny fists hitting his arm. Daeron stared up at his, face red with embarrassment.

Urrigon simply ignored it and continued walking, Daeron frowned but quickly grabbed his hand and followed, throwing glances at him. Ser Throne walked behind them guarding the duo.

Finally they had reached their mothers private chambers. Ser Criston Cole stood vigilant at the entrance as Urrigon went to greet the Knight but he felt his brother tugging his sleeve once again.

"Aegon was…in his cups, like father…he swayed around laughing and giggling, unaware of everything…he looked so much li–like he did."said Daeron.

"Aegon isn't like him"said Urrigon his mismatched eyes found his brothers fearful ones.

"B–but"

"Aegon will never be like him…i'll make sure of that" Urrigon eyes stared at his brother, wide open.

Daeron looked at the floor unable to handle his gaze.

Urrigon sighed, "Would the king play with you? Teach you how to command your blue beast?"

"N-No…"

"Hmm? Have you lost your tongue again brother, is this the rider of the mighty Tessarion?"

"I said No, Ur!"said Daeron looking up at him,all his brothers seemed to have a temper.

"You're a pureblood prince! Our blood houses the two most divine bloodlines in the seven kingdoms, the Seven command us to be brave even if our hearts hold fear Daeron".

Urrigon let the words settle and turned to the entrance again.

"Will you tell mother…that I…"

Urrigon rolled his eyes before placing his hand on Daeron's silver gold hair ruffling it. "Why would I ? She will be to focus on how you smell of dragon"

Daeron sniffed himself and wrinkled his nose "Im not that–"

Urrigon walked to meet the Kingsguard that stood vigil by the Queen's private chambers. Ser Criston Cole had coal black hair and dark brown eyes, his figure garbed in the white Kingsguard armour.

If there was any man Urrigon respected the most besides Ser Thorne it would be him.

"Ser Criston" greeted Urrigon.

"Prince Urrigon, Prince Daeron" responded Ser Cole, slightly nodding his head in greeting.

"Is mother ready for us?"

"She is with princess Helena at the moment but she was expecting you and your brother, my prince".

Urrigon nodded before turning his head behind him, glancing at Ser Thorne. "Would you mind waiting for me? My brother and I business with the queen".

Rickard Throne nodded "Of course Prince Urrigon" and stood vigil by the other side of the entrance.

Criston Cole opened the door and Daeron quickly ran in.

"MOTHER!"

Urrigon heard his brother run to their mother, causing a commotion in an effort to reach her. As he was about to walk in and join he felt Ser Cole grab his arm.

"My Prince…your mother is not in the best of moods today…"

Urrigon rised a eyebrow at the knight,"Why is that Ser Cole?"

"I am sure you have heard of the whores, newborn"spat out Cole.

"Oh, Rhaenyra's new child? What was his name again?" said Urrigon, he was used to Ser Cole's distaste for his eldest sister, in fact it was one of his charming qualities.

Many hid their faces in these walls, so to find one who did not not was rare.

"Joffrey, named after the sword swallowers lover"

"Whom you had killed during the tourney of Rhaenyra and Laenors wedding?"

All knew how long Laenor wept for Joffrey Loudmouth, never leaving the corpses side.

Urrigon felt no sympathy for those that went against the Seven's doctrine, especially him.

"Unfortunately" said Ser Cole, they both knew that he did not regret it.

"Then I suppose mother is most likely upset that the King has not seen reason, claiming them as trueborn?"

"Yes, your mother fought for you and your brothers rightful claims but the King… was being the King"

Urrigon paused, he had to deal with his mother who was most likely in an awful mood. Then an idea came to him, the Crone had guided him to it.

"I will deal with it, Ser Cole. We are to be training with the bastards later on and the Commander will be sure to attend to…supervise" Urrigon let the idea float around in the air.

Ser Criston could only smirk and finally let the duel-eyed prince inside. Urrigon could hear his mother's voice.

"By the seven! Daeron what is that Smell!?".
