Chapter 19 - Chapter 19 : When Hope Fades

After those thrilling yet painful events, Marsha lay unconscious while Abdeljalil gazed at Kristina with sorrowful eyes, eyes that carried mysterious secrets. In contrast, Cyrus and Suleiman Agha simply watched in silence, just like the rest of the kingdom's people.

Abdeljalil approached Kristina, dragging his feet heavily due to the severity of his wound. His eyes were filled with tears. He whispered in a trembling voice:

"Kristina, I can't bear this pain anymore. There's a hidden truth you must know..."

Kristina looked at him in shock, tears streaming down her cheeks. She replied in a choked voice:

"What are you hiding from me, Abdeljalil? Why all this secrecy?"

Abdeljalil took a deep breath, trying to control his emotions, then said:

"I can't go on like this. I have to put an end to all of this..."

Kristina cried out in shock:

"What are you saying? What are you planning to do? Tell me—I know you better than you know yourself!"

Abdeljalil slowly turned away, his face filled with deep regret:

"I loved you so much. Maybe I failed to tell you that back in Denmark, but fate's cruelty has forced me to confess now. You'll always be my only love in this world. Goodbye, Kristina."

Kristina:

"Wait, don't go! Please, don't do this. I know what you're about to do, and I can't bear losing you. Let's talk, we can fix this together!"

At that moment, Cyrus and Suleiman Agha stepped closer, astonishment clear on their faces. Everyone could feel the weight of the moment—it was as if time itself had stopped.

"What is Abdeljalil planning to do? Why is Kristina so afraid? Is he leaving her forever or fleeing to another kingdom? The truth remains unclear, and now all Kristina can do is watch Abdeljalil—possibly for the last time in her life—as she struggles to follow him, wounded, calling out with a loud voice."

Kristina:

"Abdeljalil, please stop! Don't do it!"

Abdeljalil (hesitantly, in a quiet voice)

"I'm sorry, Kristina, but this has to happen."

Kristina (in pain):

"Why? Why do you want to leave me? Can't you stay?"

Abdeljalil (firmly, yet sadly):

"I can't stay here anymore, Kristina. There are responsibilities I must face."

Kristina (sobbing):

"But we can fix things together! Please, don't leave me."

Abdeljalil (comforting, trying to calm her):

"You know this is something I must do. I'll miss you deeply, but I have to go."

Kristina (crying):

"I can't lose you, Abdeljalil. Please, don't leave me alone."

Abdeljalil (with resolve and sadness):

"You'll always be in my heart, Kristina. But now, I must go."

Kristina (voice breaking):

"Please... don't go..."

Suddenly, Abdeljalil stood near the church entrance and turned slightly without showing his face. He then said:

"Kristina, take care of Marsha, and tell her Abdeljalil loves her. But Abdeljalil was born alone, lived alone, will die alone, and be resurrected alone. Loneliness is a part of me."

Kristina (sobbing):

"But why must you be alone? Why not stay with us?"

Abdeljalil (gently):

"Life is leading me down different paths, Kristina. I didn't choose to be alone—but this is something I must do now."

Kristina (in pain):

"But you're not alone now. I'm here. Marsha is here. We love you and need you."

Abdeljalil (lovingly):

"You're in my heart. But this journey must be taken alone. Take care of Marsha after I'm gone."

Kristina (tearfully, hesitating):

"Promise me you'll return. Promise me, Abdeljalil."

Abdeljalil (with emotion):

"I'll come back, Kristina. Never forget—you'll always be in my heart. Right, Cyrus?"

Cyrus:

"Don't worry. He'll get you out of that place. Yazur Yaturk needs you."

Kristina (shouting at Cyrus):

"What are you doing?! Why are you encouraging him? You want him to end up like Morpheus?"

Abdeljalil exits the church and closes the door behind him, while Kristina collapses to the floor, sobbing like a child, gasping with the intensity of her tears.

Later...

In the deep darkness of night, a wide square spreads out, teeming with shifting shadows. Flickers of light cut through the dark pine trees, casting long shadows on the sloped ground. A cold breeze rises from among the shadows, carrying the scent of dampness and obscurity, enhancing the mysterious and eerie atmosphere of the square—once joyful by day.

A young man slowly approaches the edge of the dark square, staring at a man sitting at its brink, seemingly about to jump. The young man speaks cautiously:

Young Man:

"Are you alright? Why are you thinking of jumping?"

The man's hands tremble slightly as he glances toward a large, deep pit.

Man (in a faint, shaky voice):

"I... I don't really know. I feel trapped here, in the shadows of this place. I can't find my way."

The young man steps closer, more cautiously:

Young Man:

"Jumping won't help, believe me. Let me help you. Tell me—what brought you here?"

The man slowly lifts his head. His eyes are full of despair and exhaustion:

Man:

"I don't know... I've lost everything."

The young man speaks carefully, trying to inspire reflection rather than manipulate:

Young Man (calmly):

"I know things can seem unclear and difficult here. But maybe this place also holds the potential for something new."

The man slowly lifts his head again, looking at the young man with sad, puzzled eyes:

Man (confused):

"But how? I... I'm lost. I can't see any path forward."

The young man smiles slightly, trying to deliver his message without being too direct:

Young Man:

"Maybe you don't need to see the whole path—just trust that you'll find your way as you walk. Jumping is quick, sure—but finding your way brings strength and wisdom. Then again... maybe you're a coward who won't go through with it."

Man:

"Yes, I will! You don't know me!"

Young Man (mocking with a sinister tone):

"Then what are you waiting for?"

Suddenly, without warning, Abdeljalil jumps into the pit, known as The Vault of Great Mortus.

The unknown young man walks away, laughing:

"Goodbye, Abdeljalil. I told you you'd pay the price. No one messes with Yazur Yaturk."

At that moment, Kristina arrives, struggling to run. She sees the young man laughing and demands an answer:

Kristina (angrily):

"What did you do?! Why did you make him jump?!"

Young Man (with an evil grin):

"You're too late, Kristina. He's already on his way to the depths of the Vault of Great Mortus."

Kristina (panicking):

"Why? Why did you do it?!"

Young Man (coldly):

"Don't worry—he'll learn his lesson. This is the punishment for breaking our laws."

Kristina (tense):

"But he didn't know!"

Young Man (feigning understanding):

"There's no forgiveness for crossing our boundaries, Kristina."

Kristina (firmly):

"I was wrong about you, Abdeljalil. Wait for me—if I can't save you, I'll follow you."

Then, Kristina jumps into the Vault of Great Mortus as well.

Yazur Yaturk smiles and says:

"Ah... how deadly love can be. Now, I'll deal with that whore and her people."

He walks away slowly, whistling , his heart full of joy and pleasure.
