Adrian's words completely sent Rita Goldsmith over the edge.
She charged directly at him and started hitting him.
Adrian was a scholar and hadn't experienced such things, so he didn't fight back.
He took the hits squarely.
"Rita, you can hit me, but you have to let me take these things. They're the product of my hard work, you know that."
"Pfft, your hard work? I contributed to it too. This house bears my name. Things at my house are mine, and you can't take them."
Rita knew that the antiques in the house were Adrians's favorites.
So she directly used this to threaten him.
"No, Rita, let's talk sense. If you're willing to come back home with me to the country, we can buy a small house and still live together."
Adrian tried to reason with her.
Rita sneered, "You want me to live in a small house with you back home, huh? Why?"
