The Medicine Buddha walked silently through the deserted streets, the shop doors on either side tightly closed, as a rat suddenly darted out from the street's drainage with great swagger.
The Medicine Buddha was not angry, only slightly numb.
He stopped in his tracks, looking back at the city gate, on the outer walls of which was written the name of this city—
Pharmacist City.
This was the place where he attained the Dao. Given his status at Leiyin Temple, this was also the most prosperous and powerful city in the surrounding areas.
The area within a thousand miles around Pharmacist City was essentially his "territory," and its people were all his followers.
Therefore, he knew this city very well:
The residents of Pharmacist City totaled nearly one million two hundred thousand. Adding the traveling merchants and rural farmers from surrounding areas, at least one million five hundred thousand people lived in the city daily.
