Chapter 7 - New York, New Battlefield

*Muzuka POV*

*Location: New York City*

*Octobor 7th, 2009*

New York City was foul, and not just the regular kind of foul but the kind you feel as though you're knee-deep in. Apparently, it was from all the pollution or whatever they called it in the air; it felt sickening to even be in, and enraging as well. Alongside a painful tug at the back of my mind that I had somehow...failed, failed in a duty I had no recollection of.

Not that it matters right now, though I had found out where Neo Inc.'s headquarters were, and it was... quiet to say the least. It didn't stand out that much amongst the other buildings, other than the height and white walls, but not much else. Well, that and alongside the Neo Inc. logo on the side of it, but nothing much beyond that. Sure, it was weird seeing so few people enter the building, but seeing other companies who, while not as large, operate nearby with so many, well, it was certainly odd and made me extremely suspicious.

The problem was that this place was hard to investigate; the whole place was locked down tight with extremely weird and familiar-smelling security personnel. Probably like that pack I took care of in Alaska, and it also meant they weren't afraid of flaunting themselves around in public. So it was safe to assume they probably had worse waiting inside for some reason.

Well, it probably wouldn't be too much trouble to disarm them and get inside the facility itself. The problem was, would I be able to get someone to navigate through the facility itself, so that means I should look for anyone exiting the building who looked like they had access to most major locations inside. That was the most problematic part of the plan, as it would be extremely difficult to discern who was important and who was not.

Walking away, I grabbed myself a hot dog, which smelled odd but was surprisingly delicious, but something told me I didn't want to know what was inside. Taking a bite out of it, I never fully took my eyes off the building, formulating my own little plan to figure out a way inside the facility.

Although I could've sworn I saw a glint atop one of the nearby buildings but I couldn't tell from this distance, and the overwhelming smells of this city didn't help. Best to keep my guard up for now at least, even if I had been here for a few days, it takes far longer to get used to one's landscape, to plan things out accordingly to do so.

*Fenrir POV*

Putting down the little telescope, I spotted Subject M almost immediately, and it seemed like he came here just as The Board planned. Which also meant I was all ready to go to recapture him and see if Neo's upgrades would prove fruitful to the League. Although I was, for now, a mere test subject, a disposable pawn, the upgrades given to me have proved valuable, but not enough to prove their viability in the long run.

Either way, their equipment would come in handy, as I grabbed a couple of modified M9s with tranq bullets. Alongside that, I made sure to pack two stun batons, and while I didn't like taking my targets alive but we all have to do things we don't like. Taking out a mirror real quick, I wanted to take a look at my body to see a before, before I went to capture Subject M, hopefully permanently this time.

I could see my tall wolf-humanoid body alongside the new snout/mouth that added to it, and the hind legs. My white fur was still growing a bit, as some patches of it were still uncovered, but that should be fixed soon. I let out a toothy grin seeing my new sharpened fangs, which had been outfitted with some metal plating, and while it was uncomfortable, they provided a nice new weapon for me.

I then began stepping back, getting ready to jump to the next building and follow Subject M. As I jumped, I was able to see the city below me, and it was an amazing feeling to see these insects below me, to know they were nothing compared to the league and the master. I continued to jump from roof to roof, as he kept on walking, never letting my eyes off of him.

Eventually, he made a turn into a dark alleyway, big enough for a fight but far enough from the public that he wouldn't be seen. I grunted in annoyance, knowing that he might have known that I was following him. Which shouldn't be a problem as even before I was turned into a werewolf, I was a pretty good hot, and now with improved eyesight, it would be a piece of cake.

*Muzuka POV*

Turning into the alleway, I knew that I would have to wait for whoever was tailing me to reveal themselves or that I was being too paranoid, but I didn't want to be captured again. Nor did I want to spend another who knows how many years asleep again and let them do what they want with my DNA and my...new people.

That was something else I began to research, any indications of others of my kind, and so far, it has only been folklore or some pretender. I wasn't an idiot, I knew that I was a werewolf, or that the humans would refer to me as such, and that would explain why my DNA had such a negative impact on them or any at all. No matter the time period, it seemed humans would always be clever.

"Huh, wonder where that came from." I said aloud as I heard someone fire something, as I still wasn't familiar with certain terms or weaponry of this era.

I jumped back as two cylinder things with an appointed tip filled with a strange green substance hit the ground. Looking up, I saw another one of their projects, only this guy was trained and I mean really well, unlike the others. The pack I encountered up north was probably more experimental in nature than an actual strike team.

"Well, it looks like we have a real tough here." He said as he jumped down, his white fur now dirtied by the alleway. I smirked a little, seeing that as he threw away two of his weapons, bringing out two sticks that let out static shocks.

"So you can do this the easy way or the hard-" I didn't give them a chance to finish as I launched myself forward, arms out with my claws to match.

I grabbed him by the throat and flipped him upward, slamming them into the ground, jumping back as I did so, not letting him have a chance to shock me.

"Yep, that was always my weakness, talking, I always talk for too long and all that, oh well, can't help it." He said as he got up and charged forward, bringing his batons down on me.

I felt the shock go through my body, and whilst painful, I don't think he knew how much damage it would take to knock me out. I then grabbed his arm, twisting it, getting them to drop the first baton but giving them a chance to strike me in the side with it, sending another vicious shock into my system. I then used both my arms to grab him by the neck and slam him into my knee, temporarily disorienting him and causing him to walk backwards, dazed.

This gave me a chance to charge forward and deliver two punches to his face as he regained his footing. He then opened up his jaw, revealing metallic teeth, and was getting ready to chomp down on me, but I grabbed the upper part of his jaw and the bottom. I then began to put pressure on both, one going upward, the other downward. I then saw the fear in his eyes, the desperation to hold on to life, and well, I could tell that the pack was far braver than this man.

That's when an idea went through my head and I let go, letting his jaws slam together, causing some scarring on the outside and most likely inside of his mouth. Using this chance, I grabbed both shoulders and cracked his bones, breaking his bones in the process. He screamed in pain as blood poured out of his mouth. I then moved on to his legs and chose to straighten out his joints, which strongly broke them.

As he fell to the ground, blood continued to pour out of his mouth, but it probably wouldn't kill him and stop soon. Grabbing his little toy, I swung it around a bit as I got down on one knee, looking him in the eye.

"So what can you tell me about Neo Inc.?"

(Yes, I know Assassins from the League are better trained for this, but there is an explanation which will be revealed eventually)
