Chapter 136 - Compromising - Chapter 10

Somewhere in Auradelle…

Birds chirped happily as they flew around the estate. Brushing over the many flowers and shrubbery within the landscape. The sun shone brightly into a blue sky as the clouds slowly floated along. By the flowerbed, there were two children, both donning green hair and pointed ears looking over a peculiar book.

"You won't get anywhere messing up your spells like that."

"I can do it…just let me try."

"No, you're taking up our time. You'll never figure it out. Hurry up and give me the book!"

"Enough, you two."

A man sat on a nearby bench, watching attentively as the boy began to run up to him, pestering about the girl sitting in the grass with the book. She held it closely as he spoke to the man.

"She's hogging the book, she's no good at magic anyways, so why won't she just give me the book." he said as he crossed his arms, peeved at her persistence.

"You both can use the book, but it's neither of yours to make a claim for. It's your mothers that she willingly let you use."

"Even so, Iris can't even cast anything in it!"

"Well, she's trying."

"Yeah, I'm trying!"

The man stood and walked over to Iris, sitting in the patches of grass within the flowerbeds fields, her hair was tied into two buns and wore a flowy dress. She looked up at him before quickly looking away. The man offered a smile as he kneeled down next to her.

"Now Iris, you and Rowan must share."

Her face filled with a flustered expression as she had just gotten a hold of the book herself.

"It's not fair! Rowan always gets to use it, I just want to–"

"Well then, open up the book."

"Huh–"

"Open the book, and try to cast a spell you like."

"B-but–!"

"See, she can't even do it!" Rowan yelled as he stuck out his tongue at his sister, who in return did the same. The man couldn't help but laugh as the two bickered with one another.

"Try this one, right here." he said as his fingers graced the page, landing on what seemed to be a simple spell. Iris peered at the page and was left with a face of disappointment, even though it was a spell she enjoyed, it was much simpler than the ones Rowan was able to do.

"Really? This one's too easy…"

"Well, it's better to master what's 'easy' to move onto things a bit more difficult, no?"

"...I guess so…"

"Good. Cast that spell, and make it worthwhile."

"O-okay."

Iris quickly scoured the ground in search of her wand in the grass, scooping it up and reading over the spell's name once more before standing up and preparing herself.

"Mommy would sort of…stand like this…"

She changed her posture to a more confident stance, feeling the grass beneath her feet and the wind blowing behind her, she felt as if she could cast anything. The man watched her with lowered eyes and a silent expression as Rowan grumbled on the side. Iris took a deep breath before slowly lifting her wand and repeating the words within the book.
