"What did you do to Victoria?"
"To be completely honest, I don't know. Or should I say, I don't remember?"
"What do you mean 'you don't remember'?"
"Exactly what I said. I don't remember what happened. And, tell me, why haven't you asked Victoria, hmm? Do you blame me so much that you think she didn't have a say?"
Jason was speechless. His eyes fell to the table, watching his nervous hands press tightly against each other. I took a sip of the wine I was served, savouring the taste.
"Well, I understand how you feel. I'd act the same way if I were in your shoes. But the thing is, Victoria has been marked. And it's impossible for me to mark anyone without their consent. They have to be willing. If I could just go ahead to forcefully mark anyone I wanted, do you think your ancestors would have been safe? Do you think I'd still be here bickering with you lot about giving me a bride? Think, Decker."
