Chapter 182 - Chapter 182: Oath Of Loyalty

When Field Marshal Gai Mou stood up from his chair, he slowly approached Victor, who still remained seated. Each step drew the Simbarnese commander closer to the foreign king. Victor was slightly uneasy because of the Field Marshal. He just silently approached him with a serious face. Not wanting to remain potentially trapped in his chair, Victor stood up and was now eye to eye with the Field Marshal.

For a moment, everything was tense, so tense that you could cut it with a knife. In that moment, Victor thought that perhaps the Field Marshal would be brazen and try to kill him, thus causing a devastating blow to the Kingdom of Luxenberg.

On edge, Victor discreetly manoeuvred his hand to delicately play with the pommel and hilt of his sabre. If the Field Marshal did try to go out in a blaze of glory and attempt an assassination, Victor would be prepared to fight for his life.

The gap between the two men had shrunk to the point where they could almost feel each other's breath. When the tension was at its highest, Field Marshal Gai Mou began to move, causing Victor to almost draw his sabre. What stopped him from doing so was seeing the direction that the Simbarnese commander went.

Field Marshal Gai Mou slowly dropped to one knee, his fist was placed firmly into the ground. His off hand was resting on the bent knee, and his head was lowered. Before Victor could even begin to process the significance of this act, the Field Marshal recited an oath.

"I, Gai Mou. Son of Gai Zan, and head of the Gai family, solemnly swear my undying loyalty to the Kingdom of Luxenberg and its ruler, Victor Luxenberg. I will do right to all manner of people after the laws and usages of this realm, without fear or favour, affection or ill will."

Victor was momentarily stunned, for the Field Marshal to do such a thing was extraordinary. Never would Victor have imagined this from a man who was fiercely loyal to the Kingdom of Gu. However, since they are no more, maybe it meant that there was no harm in choosing a better path for his people and continent.

"Please rise, Field Marshal… I appreciate the grand gesture, but it is not needed. You are a figure of great importance to this land, you are on par with some of my best commanders, and as such, I shall treat you with the same respect," Victor warmly said, gesturing for the Field Marshal to rise. Gai Mou appreciated the King's sentiment and promptly rose from the ground.

When the Field Marshal rose, Victor shook his hand once more and welcomed him as a commander of the Kingdom of Luxenberg. With Gai Mou's allegiance, the entire continent was now under the control of the Kingdom of Luxenberg. Victor had once again accomplished a historic feat. First, he unified his home continent, and now his Kingdom fully spans across two continents.

The thought of another entire continent under his control was exciting, but Victor was well aware of the new struggles that would occur from this. As such, Victor needed to return to the capital and continue establishing his Kingdom's rule over the continent. But he would not return to the capital alone. Field Marshal Gai Mou and all of the summoned Simbarnese Generals would return with Victor.

It took 13 weeks for everyone to gather at the former capital city of the Kingdom of Gu. A lot had changed since Victor had left. The city was now slowly returning to how it was before the war. People were out and about, and markets were bustling once more. Luxenberg soldiers even mingled with the regular civilians; this was thanks to the assistance of summoned Simbarnese soldiers under General Kan Ki.

Everyone of importance was gathered in the throne room with Victor sitting atop the throne. It was safe to say Victor had never truly experienced anything like this. His newly acquired throne room was beyond compare; it made the Luxenberg Palace pale in comparison.

Many of Victor's commanders were gathered, except for General Rapp and Marshal Lefebvre. They were in charge of guarding the south in Field Marshal Gai Mou's absence.

At the foot of the throne was a giant map of the continent. Although it may have been far away for Victor, he had the virtual map from his system that he could use. The system's map showed a detailed lay of the land. Since fully conquering Simbar, Victor could now accurately view the maps of two continents.

The reason they were viewing the map was due to military personnel deployment. The tough thing for the Luxenberg military was that there was now a rising influx of Simbarnese soldiers who were not able to speak in Bulgartic. That means integrating them into an army would be difficult since the language barrier could cause confusion on the battlefield.

There was no way that Victor to integrate the army corps system on Simbar. There were too many soldiers and not enough talented commanders. As such, Victor was quick to propose a solution to their problems.

"Gentlemen, given our current situation with the military, I believe it is in our best interest not to employ the corps system on this continent. At least not yet."

Victor was about to elaborate, but Marshal Lannes was quick to protest. "My Liege, the corps system has been the standard tactic of the Luxenberg Military ever since you first conquered Sardia and defeated the Dukedom of Cruyff. It would be confusing if the armies of both continents fought differently."

Marshal Lannes made a valid point; if half the army were taught different tactics, it would make fighting alongside each other difficult. There were also a few other factors that would support Marshal Lannes's statement, but he did not want to ramble.

Victor understood this, hence why he did not get upset when being interrupted. Instead, he waited patiently before making his declaration.

"Instead of the corps system, I would like to split the army into four parts, each covering a section of the continent. With this, I would introduce a new form of commander…The Animal Generals."
