Chapter 77 - Chaos at the Entrance

A violent explosion awakened the entire monastery. Caden was the first on his feet, heart pounding. The Lion mark on his forearm was already pulsing with heat. He grabbed his belongings and rushed outside, closely followed by Zetch, Bella, and Aletha—who was still sore from her fall but remained determined.

The four of them reached the monastery's main entrance. The sight before them froze their blood: a horde of demons and dark mages was surging against the stone gates. Monks fought valiantly, but they were being overwhelmed. Streaks of black energy lit up the night, blasting chunks out of the walls.

"They followed us here!" Caden shouted.

"We won't let them destroy this place," Aletha replied, cracking her fingers. The water in the river below was already churning at her command.

Without another word, the four dove into the battle.

Caden led with a massive wave of flames that he swept in a wide arc, incinerating several demons in the front line. A gray-skinned enemy mage charged him with a shadow axe. Caden dodged with a quick step and countered with a fiery punch to the solar plexus, followed by a rising elbow strike that sent his opponent flying backward in a burst of embers.

"You shall not pass!" he growled.

Beside him, **Bella** spun with graceful precision. She unleashed cutting gusts that sliced through the enemy ranks and created powerful updrafts to hurl demons into the rocks. A dark warrior tried to flank her, but she repelled him with a sphere of compressed air that exploded like a bomb.

**Zetch** stood firmly rooted to the ground. He stomped the earth, raising a stone wall that blocked an enemy charge, then reshaped it into sharp projectiles and launched them like javelins. A massive demon slammed into his earthen shield head-on. Zetch staggered back, arms trembling under the impact, but held his ground.

"They're tougher than I expected…" he panted.

**Aletha** danced between the attacks. She drew the river water upward into liquid columns, shaping them into lashing whips and then into icy spears that pierced enemies at range. A corrupted mage broke her concentration with a dark spell, sending Aletha flying backward. She rolled across the ground.

"Aletha!" Caden cried out.

He rushed to cover her, firing a barrage of rapid small fire projectiles to force the enemy back. Aletha rose immediately and retaliated with a powerful wave that swept away several attackers.

The battle raged fiercely. At times the demons gained the upper hand, pushing Caden's group and the monks back toward the gates. At others, Caden and his friends reclaimed the advantage with coordinated strikes: Bella lifted enemies with a whirlwind while Zetch impaled them on rock spikes, Aletha froze the ground beneath their feet, and Caden finished them with flames.

Among the monastery's defenders, **Eiran** fought with a luminous sword, cutting down demons with surgical precision. **Lyseria** cast protective light spells and shining beams. **Kael** and **Lethan** guarded the flanks, repelling wave after wave with strength and agility.

"Hold the line!" Eiran shouted as he parried a dangerous blow.

But the pressure never eased. The enemy forces seemed endless.

Caden, breathing hard, barely blocked an attack aimed at his side. A burning gash now stung his shoulder. He could see Zetch beginning to tire, Bella losing altitude, and Aletha struggling to maintain her water constructs.

"They're gaining ground…" he murmured, worry creeping into his voice.
