As of now, Ray was wandering around the campus with no specific destination. He knew that in a while he had to go to the dorms to get himself acquainted with his roommates, whom he was undoubtedly going to get.
Not looking forward to that.
It was still the middle of the morning, and after the class with Professor Amon, they had nothing to do on the first day of the academy, so most of them went exploring or got themselves settled in their dormitories before lunch.
Ray was not that enthusiastic about that, really, the idea of sleeping in the same room as somebody else was not a problem, nor was just talking to somebody else.
There was never really a problem, it was just really more of a bother than an actual problem.
After the class, he just really wanted to take some fresh air rather than speak to someone else.
Still, he should get going, he couldn't let this thing delay too much longer.
Looking around to see where he was, he turned in another direction and started walking to the dorms location.
The dormitory area was quite large. It involved around six buildings, all of them around three stories high. All the buildings, albeit rectangular, were all placed in a circular pattern, all facing the center, where there was a small garden.
As Ray walked into the garden, he looked towards the buildings.
The three buildings on his left were the Female Dormitories, while the three on his right were the Male Dormitories. The reason there were three buildings for each gender was quite simple: it was three buildings for three academy years.
While looking around, he found Cù Sith in front of the building assigned to them.
"You are here?"
"Yeah, after the chaos with my roommates, I needed to take a breather."
"Is it that bad?"
"Not that much, but they were both getting on my nerves. So, what room are you in?"
"The mail says that I was assigned to Room 25."
"Ah . . . So you are in the same room as me. It seems that it's time to get back in then."
He sounded really exasperated. Just what happened in there? What kind of roommates had they been to leave him like this?
The dormitory buildings were not that big. The first floor was meant as a hangout area, the second floor was where the actual rooms were, and according to Cù, the third floor was meant for training purposes, basically a place where one could train outside of classes.
'I need to check that one out later.'
It didn't take long for them to reach Room 25.
And as Cù opened the door, Ray's eyes widened.
The room wasn't exactly small, but it wasn't large either. At the other end of the room was a sliding glass door leading to a balcony. The place he was now was definitely something like a living room, with two doors leading to what he assumed to be the bedroom and a bathroom.
However, at the moment the living room was in quite the state. The sofa that was supposed to be facing the TV had been dismantled and repositioned into a pillow fort that completely sealed off any light that tried to get inside it.
And in the middle of the room was Jynn Caster, topless, lying in a sun lounger that seemed to have been taken from the balcony.
Cù sighed in frustration.
Ray was completely surprised.
"I thought it wasn't that bad?"
He sought confirmation from Cù, the way he had phrased it before seemed way too mild.
"Things . . . Seemed to have gotten worse the moment I left the room. Zillah was just covering himself in the sheets, not building a fort. And Jynn was unpacking his five bags, albeit loudly and making a scene, not . . . Whatever this is!"
When he had left, Zillah was just cowering in the bedroom, and Jynn was making a scene while unpacking. He had been gone for a little more than five minutes. How did the situation change so drastically?!
"Ah! My friend, welcome back! Oh, and it seems that Ray has been assigned the same room, it will be my pleasure to give you the experience of living with myself."
Cù and Ray stayed silent for a moment before Ray voiced a question.
"What are you doing?"
"Sunbathing, why?"
"Isn't that done outside?"
"I have sensitive skin."
". . ." x2
As if recognizing that the two of them wouldn't understand him, Jynn just closed his eyes and rested his head with his arms behind it, a small, relaxed smile on his face.
Ray looked at the pillow fort and pondered greeting the guy in it. He sighed and decided to go to the bedroom to unpack.
"So, which one is the bedroom?"
Still with a tired look, Cù gestured towards the door on the left without saying a word.
Deducing that he really wasn't in the mood for talking, Ray headed towards the room.
It wasn't that great, it wasn't that big, although it had a larger ceiling than the other room. The bedroom was pretty simple, as one entered, to their left there was a closet, clearly divided into four.
On the right there was a glass door that led towards the balcony.
The bedroom was also equipped with a desk with a computer and a bunk bed for four, that explained why the ceiling was so high.
At the head of each bed there was a name written in it, indicating their owner. Ray's was the second from the top. Cù was above him and Jynn below him.
He took out his bag and started unpacking his things.
The clothes went to his part of the closet. He left some things in the desk, mostly just stuff from the academy, like the books and other materials.
Ray looked up at the bunk bed and jumped directly onto his bed. Taking out his phone, he once again checked his schedule.
For the Hero Course, classes only occupied one half of the day, sometimes the morning, other times the afternoon, except for Monday.
That one was packed. From 9 in the morning to 8 at night. Thankfully, classes on that day were the most interesting ones, like Combat Practice.
'Tomorrow is Tuesday. So, classes only in the afternoon. "Theory of Heroing," "Monster Care & Recognition." How boring.'
After that, he started checking the so called Internet. According to his research, it was a creation that first appeared in the Republic of Whoastein that allowed various devices to connect around the world and share information.
This exponentially evolved into a digital space that held answers to a lot of questions and allowed the people from the world to communicate to someone thousands of kilometers away.
But Ray was more interested in the works of fiction that had appeared. Specifically, he really liked dragon themed characters and/or moves.
Nevertheless, the internet turned out to be quite the interesting place. At the moment, he was not watching any type of fictional show but was instead seeing a documentary about the Glass Plains, a.k.a., the place in the desert he had turned into literal glass.
«No one knows how exactly this part of the desert was turned into glass.»
The screen shifted towards a "specialist" in the field.
«Records say that the cause of the formation of the Glass Plains was a gigantic shadowy figure that had appeared in the sky one day, along with a bright flash of light.»
Some images flashed across the screen, depicting some drawings and texts that the specialist had mentioned.
«That, along with the fact that the glass formations that we found are so symmetric and organized, makes one think. What was the shadowy figure that had appeared in the sky? Rex Draco, who was alive at the time? Why would he do something like that? That leaves us with the last and most frightening option. Was this the result of an experiment of someone, someone beyond our skies?»
"Aliens?! Seriously? Aliens?! 'Why would Rex Draco do something like that?' Well, why wouldn't he?! He does whatever he wants!"
"Hum, Ray, is everything alright?"
Ray was startled for a second, it seemed that the internet was dulling his senses. How dangerous.
Cù was at the door of the room, looking at Ray with a strange expression.
"Uhm . . . Zillah and Jynn are going to lunch, they asked if you want to go with them or if they can get you something."
"What about you?"
"I don't really like processed food. Weirdly enough, the forest near the academy has some animals that are allowed to be hunted. So I guess I will be going there."
'Processed food, is it that bad?'
"I think I will try whatever those guys are having."
"I will let them know. Good luck."
'Good luck? It's just food.'

Author's Note: Well, this was quite weird to write, perhaps because this is my first time writing a scene where the characters are not fighting or not revealing lore/info dumps.
Anyway, hope you like the chapter, don't forget to comment what you tought about it.
And check out my other novel: This Novel's Plot has Completely Changed
