Chapter 211 - End

A few months later, in the main square of the Dutton ranch, numerous tables had been arranged where the family's closest guests gathered for this special occasion.

As it turned out, today was the day Dante was getting married.

The situation was quite special. After all, no other Dutton had gotten married on the ranch since John, and that had happened a very long time ago.

"Won't it look strange if I walk you down the aisle?" John felt uncomfortable with the fact that Dante had asked him to accompany him to the altar.

That was usually a mother's role, but since he didn't have one, Dante thought it was right for his father to be the one beside him.

"To hell with traditions, Dad."

"Yeah… to hell with them." With a lump in his throat, John walked his son to the altar, and before turning away, he said, "Dan, I know I haven't been the best father. I'm still trying to be better, and I'm glad you chose family above everything else. You're a Dutton—a real one who understands the commitment our name carries. Enjoy this day, and never forget that I'll always be proud of everything you've achieved on your own."

Dante remained silent. Any doubt that this was his family no longer existed in his mind.

The truth was that his idea of family was different. Every cowboy present—workers and friends alike—was his family, regardless of blood.

To Dante, that was his family…

"Thanks, Dad…"

When Dante looked up, that was when Susie entered his field of vision. She looked beautiful in that white dress, and the one accompanying her was her brother.

Dante would do everything in his power to keep her safe. She was the one who had given his life a deeper meaning.

The family he would build with Susie was everything he had always dreamed of, and today it would finally become reality.

When Susie's brother left her at the altar, he said through tears, "Brother-in-law, take care of my sister."

"I'll see you later." Dante's relationship with Susie's brother had improved greatly.

"How do I look?" Susie asked with a radiant smile as she looked at Dante, waiting for an answer.

Dante did not hesitate.

"You're beautiful, Susie…"

There was no reason to doubt it. She was simply perfect. Fate had placed them on the right path so their union could become something magical.

And Dante would always be grateful for that.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife."

"Long live the bride and groom!"

Twenty years later…

Dante Dutton's Thoughts

I never imagined I would live long enough to see peace settle over this land.

Today, there are wrinkles on my hands, scars time has left across my body, but there is also a peace I once believed impossible.

I've grown old, yes… but not alone. Susie is still by my side, with that look in her eyes that still makes me feel young, even if my bones tell a different story.

We have two children. Two boys who grew up running among the horses, playing where silent wars over the land were once fought.

I taught them what it means to be a Dutton, but more importantly, I taught them that loving this land does not mean spilling blood for it. It means protecting it, living alongside it, understanding it.

The Dutton ranch still stands. Protected, recognized, loved.

At last, the government understood what we had known from the beginning: this was not just land…

It was history, legacy, home.

And beyond the ranch, I achieved something I never dreamed of at the start of this fight: breaking a part of the evil that had always threatened our borders.

For years, I worked with agents, governments, and old enemies who became allies, and together we managed to reduce cocaine trafficking worldwide.

It wasn't perfect, but it was a beginning. Thousands of lives were not lost.

And that alone makes everything worth it.

Beth comes to visit us from time to time. Ever since she got married, she bought a ranch with Rip, and they live there together as a family. Jamie remains a mystery, but he is at peace beside his wife. Kayce and Lee, each walking their own path, continue fighting for what they believe is right.

My father, John… is no longer here.

We buried him facing south last year, where he always said the threats came from. Now, only the wind comes from there.

Sometimes I sit on the old porch with a cup of coffee, Susie beside me, our children talking with the ranch hands in the background, and I think:

"At last. All of this… finally meant something."

No more battles.

No more enemies.

Only the sound of horses in the distance, the creaking of the forest at dusk, and the Montana sky stretching over everything.

And so the story ends.

Not with a gunshot, nor with a fight. But with a complete family, a land at peace, and an old man who gave everything… and still has everything.

"The wind within the smoke carries my story, but this land… carries my soul."
