Chapter 96 - CHAPTER 96:A Fight of Ancients

Komodo attacked first, shifting with every step into the monstrous bipedal reptile. Bat remained standing, watching with calm even as the eight-foot reptile barreled into him; claws outstretched.

To Komodo's delight, Bat evaded the attack with a simple jump soaring into the air before coming down with a heavy heel aimed for Komodo's skull.

"I guess you vampires really do live up to your reputation". Komodo grinned, raising both hands just in time, forcing Bat to disengage.

There was no comment from Bat who still regarded his opponent with crimson eyes waiting for another move. Komodo sighed, obviously expecting some sort of comment or snarky remark. On getting none, he moved in once more swiping with ten horrendous claws that seemed to slice the air surrounding them.

"Pathetic". Bat spat, blocking another claw strike and ducking just in time to avoid an overhead kick.

Komodo continued on, despite Bat's successful blocks throwing out an array of swipes and kicks that would really pack a punch if an of them did manage to land.

Bat noticing the relentless stamina of his foe and the brightening skies could only frown. He obviously had to do something if he wanted to come out on top.

Dodging a claw strike brought him out of the range of a savage bite that would have taken his head clean off.

Finally seeing an opportunity, Bat took in a deep breath gathering all the energy within him for an attack that would be sure to sting.

Komodo sniffing the air could sense a subtle change, one that he definitely didn't like. "What is he planning?

A low smirk still managed to creep onto his face despite the uncertainty currently plaguing his mind.

Crack

"Pulch". Komodo spat blood, reeling back when a mighty kick from Bat rattled his entire jaw. Bat not letting down, threw another punch that sent Komodo flying through a row of oaks.

"Damn". Komodo came to a stop eventually digging his claws into the soil. Shaking his head, a little, Komodo regained his composure staring through the splintered trees where a dark blur seemingly tore through the air. "What a rush!

Komodo roared into the air, running forward to meet Bat head on. Bat flew forward, spinning wildly like an arrow; a red sheen surrounding his het black cloak. The two bridged the distance separating them in a matter of seconds.

'BOOM'

"Impossible". Komodo couldn't help but frown, getting up with great difficulty from the little crater his body had just formed. "What kind of mana is that? Komodo hissed, jumping out of the hole just in time to avoid another blur that sent piles of earth flying in every direction.

The burning sensation coming from his chest made Komodo to stare down for a brief second, and what he saw made him for the first time in this battle to actually feel rage. Among the beautiful pale green scales, a small patch of pink tender flesh could be seen; sticking out like a sore thumb and revealing weakness.

"Rumors are indeed true". Komodo called out, catching Bat's wrist before a follow-up strike.

Bat as usual didn't offer any comment and instead threw out a kick at Komodo's chest, trying to dislodge himself from the reptile's hold. Unfortunately, that didn't work and Komodo making use of his opponent's reduced mobility, swung the vampire like a ragdoll slamming him against a tree; sending a fresh torrent of blood pouring out of Bat's mouth.

"Sh*t".

Bat gritted his teeth as Komodo punched him right in the gut. The pain was blinding but Bat fought through it, sending an attack of his own all in an effort to relinquish the hellish hold.

Blood gathered into his clenched right arm, rushing forward into the fingers that still remained pointed at their aggressor's face. Komodo having no idea of what Bat was planning, continued to send more punches; pummeling Bat's body with every attack and shaking the entire forest with every impact.

If this was a contest of strength, Bat knew he would have already lost. Still battles weren't won by the strongest, Humans being a clear example of this; a weak race with only one power that made them conquerors of all those that stood in their path.

Intelligence.

A trait which most dragons except for two mostly lacked; another reason why they had been wiped out long before vampires, intelligence which Bat on the other hand was ready to use.

Which was why he continued to allow Komodo pummel him, even though there were a few chances for him to escape.

Komodo on the other hand was totally maddened by his blood lust and couldn't even notice the attack gradually coming for his face. The now crimson middle finger continued to stare into the oblivious dragon's face.

"Fool". Bat coughed out a fresh bout of blood. Komodo licked his left fist which was now bathed in Bat's blood. "I had assumed you would give me much more of a challenge".

"Like I said". Bat grinned, his bloody face looking even more hideous than before. "FOOL!

Whizz.

For a second everything came to a standstill, Komodo for example still remained standing, blood still dripping down his fist, Bat also remained there; looking like a hideous ragdoll before he gave Komodo's chest a slight push.

Thud

The dragon collapsed onto the ground, the red nail sticking out of his eye, standing out like an island amidst vast rivers of crimson.

"Satisfied? Bat coughed once more, clutching his stomach as he stood above Komodo.

"HA, HA, Ha! That was clever. Very clever".

Komodo broke into a fit, laughing loudly and shaking the entire forest.

"What are you waiting for? Komodo's other eye focused on Bat's bloodied face.

"Let's be serious". Bat frowned.

"About what? Komodo feigned ignorance.

"We both know you and I hadn't given our all in this 'spar'". Bat replied.

"Alright you got me". Komodo remained on his back. "You vampires are worthy allies indeed".

"When shall we meet your master? Bat went straight to business.

"Soon enough". Komodo smiled, getting up to his feet and casting a long shadow over Bat.

"Till then". Bat began walking.

"Where are you heading? Komodo pulled out the red nail, marveling at Bat's ingenious strategy.

"Elyria". Came Bat's short reply.

"What a coincidence". Komodo grinned.

"I travel alone". Bat snapped, ending their brief encounter as he disappeared into the forest.

"We will finish this some other time". Komodo whispered, fully aware Bat probably heard him.

"Next time I won't spare you". Bat's inaudible words travelled through the air.

"We shall see". Komodo, licked his lips, looking forward to another battle.
