Lucy didn't take long to answer the door.
With an innocent expression, she pulled it open, her head peeking through the small opening and her eyes widening as they landed on my figure.
A tint of red appeared on her cheek, and she was summoning the courage to speak when her gaze took in the rest of my form.
For a second, horror flashed on her face.
The woman immediately let go of the door and stepped out, moving to my side and holding my right arm.
"Are you alright?"
The care with which she held what remained of my limb and her black eyes, which trembled and moistened as she stared at my stump, told of how much pain and worry she felt at the moment.
"I'll live."
I thought those words were enough to calm much of Lucy's worry, but she was not satisfied in the least.
"Of course you will, but look at you.
Your arm's a mess, and you've lost many pounds. It's like you've been starved for nearly a month."
