Carl's jaw tightened. It made no sense medically. With her brain waves, she shouldn't have processed a single word. And yet, Arthur wasn't someone to imagine things.
"You're most likely right," Carl admitted after a pause. "Even if it goes against everything the scans told us." He turned sharply to the team. "Repeat the neuro tests. Check her brain waves again. If she's defied the results before, she can do it again."
His voice was steady, but there was something in his tone, like a man holding onto the edge of a miracle with both hands.
Carl moved to the door, hand on the knob, but paused. His voice dropped low, not aimed at anyone in particular.
"Please… keep the sensitive chit chat to a minimum, would you?"
Everyone knew who he meant. Arthur didn't flinch but he understood.
Carl's gaze swept the room, his words gentle but carrying enough weight to freeze the air.
"And why are you all still standing here? Don't we have tests to run?"
