Chapter 176 - 176. 1st Day's Battle Round

When Levy returns, her team praises her for getting a good result. She apologizes for getting 3rd place, but it's actually a good result already. They might get a lower score than 2 teams, but it's higher than the other 5 teams.

Though they get irritated when Laxus deliberately teases them by emphasizing on 1st and 3rd when he talks to his teammates. Alex really wants to punch him in the face, but that will make him look like a sore loser, which is what Laxus wants, so he holds himself back.

"Don't mind him. Let him enjoy this temporary lead while he can. We have to think about the battle round." Alex starts the discussion for the battle round with his team.

"Right, who should we send for this? The 1st battle round is very important because we can show our power and make the other teams wary of us. It will be helpful in the next rounds if they feel a bit worried when fighting us." Levy thinks about the psychological warfare with the other teams.

"I think the same too. That's why I've been thinking about this while you played that 1st game and I have an idea." Alex makes a gesture for them to get closer, so they move their faces close with each other and Alex whispers his plan to them, which they agree quickly.

The other teams are also discussing who they'll send for this 1st battle round. Some of them seem to have similar ideas with Fairy Tail A team. But they don't know who the other teams send for this battle round until the organizer announces the matches.

1st Match: Blue Pegasus Ren vs Quatro Cerberus Warcry

2nd Match: Heaven's Runners Macbeth vs Mermaid Heel Kagura

3rd Match: Fairy Tail B Laxus vs Sabertooth Orga

4th Match: Fairy Tail A Alex vs Lamia Scale Jura

Everyone's attention is immediately drawn to the last match, Alex vs Jura. They are surprised that the 2 individuals that the audience thinks to be the strongest to join this tournament will fight on the 1st day already.

The Hero of Ishgar who has fought the Dragon King and survived will fight a Wizard Saint, one of the strongest Mages in Ishgar. Of course, this makes people very excited because they'll see a very high-level battle.

It's not just the audience that gets excited. Even the other teams are excited to see how the battle between those 2 monsters will go. Though Jura might be the most excited out of everyone here because he can fight Alex so soon.

The sponsors who decide on the matching have predicted this reaction. They were arranging the matches like this after they received the names that will fight like this because they wanted to make this kind of reaction, after all.

But the audience doesn't just anticipate Alex's battle against Jura. They are also curious about the other fights, especially Laxus vs Orga. 2 Lightning Magic users with different types.

A Lightning Dragon Slayer and A Lightning God Slayer. A battle between a Dragon and a God to determine which one is stronger between a Dragon and a God. Such a narration by the commentator really hypes the audience.

Then, there's also the battle between Kagura and Macbeth. Both of them are the S-Class of their Guilds with Macbeth being the strongest of team Heaven's Runners. He is also the strongest in his Guild after their Guild Master Jellal.

Kagura is also a really well known strong Mage. She also has a connection with Heaven's Runners because her older brother, Simon is one of Heaven's Runners' founders and now works as their Vice-Guild Master who handles most of their administrative works.

The battle between Ren and Warcry gets the least attention because both of them aren't their Guilds' strongest members. Though Ren does get a lot of attention from the ladies as a well-known male model that often appears in magazines.

The organizer has predicted this, that's why they make them fight first so these 2 won't get overwhelmed by other matches. Also, they want to build up the hype for the last match between Alex and Jura with this arrangement.

Ren and Warcry enter the arena, accompanied by people's cheers. Their battle starts soon, but it's quite baffling for many people because Warcry suddenly cries, letting out a lot of tears which then float around his face.

"... So he is called Warcry because his power comes from his cry in the war?" Alex doesn't know much about this character because he already forgot about this guy.

Warcry's tears suddenly become a pair of spears that move toward Ren at high speed. The tear spears are still connected to Warcry's eyes, so he can control them anytime.

Surprisingly, Ren doesn't try to block the tear spears. He propels himself forward by making an air bubble to put himself in before moving the air bubble with him inside toward Warcry.

Warcry moves his tear spears to chase after Ren, but then Ren shoots a cyclone from his hands while flying forward. He is already quite close to Warcry, so the cyclone hits Warcry almost immediately, sending Warcry flies onto the arena wall.

Ren gets ready to continue the fight, but to his surprise, Warcry has already fainted, leaving him and the audience speechless. All of them are in disbelief at how weak Warcry's durability is as a Mage. His defense is also quite weak because he just got hit by Ren's attack without any defense.

Though it also proves that Ren's attack is actually powerful. The cyclone itself is strong, then added with the spinning, the damage that Warcry receives when crashing onto the hardened wall is actually really big.

Well, anyway, Ren won the battle, so it's time for the 2nd match between Macbeth and Kagura, 2 powerful Mages who are also favorites by many people in this tournament. They've never fought 1 on 1 in the previous tournaments, so this battle is highly anticipated.

As the match starts, Macbeth immediately starts attacking. He uses his Reflector Magic to twist the air, sending invisible air blades toward Kagura who still stands calmly on her spot.

To Macbeth's surprise, his invisible blades are struck down by an invisible force right before hitting Kagura. Or more like they are being pulled down by an invisible force because they hit the ground around Kagura instead.

Kagura is using Gravity Magic to make a wall around her. Her Gravity Magic is actually very powerful. Alex who can see the invisible Gravity Wall with his Rinne-Sharingan even thinks that it is comparable to Bluenote's Gravity Magic that he faced 7 years ago.

Then, Kagura suddenly runs forward at a very high speed. She is so fast that it seems like she is teleporting behind Macbeth. But she actually runs and even slashes her still sheathed sword at Macbeth while passing by him.

She looks back and frowns because her slash doesn't do anything to Macbeth. Although he can't see her attack, his body is already protected by his Reflector Magic. So Kagura's slash was reflected and bounced.

Her bounced slash flew toward the wall in the direction of where she came from. It makes a deep cut in the hardened wall, showing how bad Macbeth's condition would be if he didn't reflect that attack.

But Macbeth has used this Magic in the previous years of this competition, so Kagura isn't surprised by this result. Both of them have never fought 1 on 1, but they've seen each other's abilities from the previous tournaments, so they've planned how they'll fight.

Kagura does more tests by attacking Macbeth directly with her sword. But all her attacks are reflected and her sword keeps bouncing back each time.

Macbeth doesn't just defend, he also attacks by distorting the air in front of her to attack Kagura. But Kagura uses her incredible speed to move around Macbeth, avoiding his attacks while still attacking.

Both of them keep attacking each other, but they can't hit each other. Macbeth starts distorting not only the air, but also the ground. But Kagura's speed is too fast for him to catch up.

He can use more dangerous spells, but he holds back because this is a match and his opponent is his Vice-Guild Master's sister. But seeing Kagura's skills, he decides not to hold back anymore.

He releases his magic in all directions, creating numerous invisible slashes. Kagura is hit and sent fly back quite far. Her sword blocks a slash, but another slash hits her left shoulder, cutting her clothes and creating a little cut on her left shoulder.

Macbeth wants to twist Kagura's clothes to immobilize her. But suddenly, Kagura disappears again and hits him from the left, making Macbeth unable to use his Reflector Magic. His Magic's weakness is he can only reflect one thing at a time.

So he can't twist Kagura's clothes when he needs to twist her fast sword attacks. Then suddenly, his body becomes so heavy that he can't stand up and falls on his knees. Kagura uses her powerful Gravity Magic while attacking with her sword.

She places her still-sheathed sword on his shoulder and it feels very heavy. Macbeth sighs and surrenders because if he twists the gravity, he won't be able to do anything against Kagura's sword. With this, Mermaid Heel won their 1st day's battle match.
