Chapter 9 - Hope

5th July 2026

Solitude is a curse that consumes your mind over time. It feeds you all sorts of false information to hype you up so that you make mistakes. Mistakes that you regret later, but this is not always true. Sometimes, false information makes you hypersensitive to everything around you.

You mostly when you situations like the one I am in… Sound becomes your devil in the ears telling you with each noise someone's there waiting.

Just like the situation I am in right now. A noise like some kind of door was opened. I heard it clearly, but I can't see anything. Just for safety, let's keep a lookout for THEM.

I am recording all this, but I don't know why. It's not like anyone will see this since there is no one left to see this.

The battery is running low on the camera. I should turn it off. As there is something important I need to record.

SHUTTING OFF….

Thud!!!

Something is definitely there, I peek from the corner of the office glass, sticking to the sides in fear of being seen.

Someone is walking in my direction. Skinny like sticks glued together…. Do these guys also need food to survive???

But the walk is different, it seems afraid, why is that… isn't on the hunt? Why would it be afraid?

It is coming closer and closer. It's a girl, there is something in her hands, it's a can of soda!

She is not infected How did she survive all this time?

Hell, so many questions in my mind, but as soon as we maid eye contact she fell on the ground and the can of soda made quite the noise which I knew is not good.

Within seconds, I could here the footsteps running in her direction.

I didn't think I wanted to save her but it seems like she is unconscious now. I tried to open the door but forgot that it was broken. I ran towards the window and launched myself on the scaffolding. This thing is becoming very normal for me.

I entered the side office from the scaffolding and saw her standing crying with noise as if she has accepted it after a long struggle. I ran towards her and as I opened the doors I could see the infected run towards us from both the directions.

I pulled her into the office and she was light as a feather and fell directly on the floor this door was also broken as it can not be locked so I pushed a table onto the door but knew it will not hold.

We can to get to the office through the office it was okey of me but how will she get there.

She was still in shock and tears were coming out of eyes non stop.

But didn't have time for that I grabbed her by her arm and pushed her on the scaffolding.

And the infected were here. Banging on the door, I didn't wait to see how many of them were there we just had to get to our safe room.

Once on the scaffolding, I told her something without thinking.

"Hey, if you want to live, jump to that window and climb in, or you can die here and I am going!!".

After saying that, I jumped to the window, the distance was shorter than before, and then I climbed in.

I don't know what got into her, or if she saw the infected coming towards her. But she jumped and barely made it. I grabbed her and pulled her in, and as soon as I pulled her in, one of the infected also jumped and was hanging on to the window.

As I saw it.

I grabbed the nearest object — a keyboard — and smashed it against its fingers.

It didn't budge.

Another one had jumped and was holding on to the first.

I kept hitting, again and again.

And the key broke!

As the infected was about to come in, it suddenly fell, maybe it slipped, but I was safe somehow! and I slowly moved towards the window, and it was gone.

Now, 2 infected were standing on the scaffolding.

And the only in-and-out route was blocked.

But at least I was safe
