Chapter 440 - Can I Call You?

"I think you should sleep on it," Gabe said, giving me an assuring smile. "You'll have a better idea on Monday. Who knows, maybe another contract will come along." 

"Maybe," I let out a deep breath. 

We switched the topic to the game tomorrow. Fish and chips. Easy talk. We called it a night before 9pm because I had to be up early. 9pm was basically my bedtime now. Gabe paid for our meal, which was comedic, because I'd blown a hole in my pocket taking Harper to dinner. 

It had started raining by the time we left. He offered to drive me back to the hotel, and I took it. 

London at night in July rain looked different. 

The streets were slick and black, catching the glow from every street lamp and shop window. A red double-decker bus rolled past, headlights cutting through the drizzle, water spraying off its tires. People hurried under umbrellas, coats pulled tight. The city was loud but softened at the edges by rain.
