The head hadn't even finished settling onto his neck when Ironside kicked him.
There was no warning. The purple fire was still wrapped around the bottom of the skull, pulling it down onto the stump, and the constable was still down on one knee. Then his other leg came off the ground and his heel was flying at Noah's chest.
Noah got his arms up in time.
It didn't matter.
The heel hit his crossed forearms and something went through them. Not into them. Through. A narrow point of pressure punched straight through his left forearm, through the right one behind it, and stopped a hair short of his sternum. He felt both bones in his left arm split down the middle, a deep white pain that went all the way into the marrow, and then the force behind it hit and threw him back across the courtyard. He slid thirty feet on his heels before he stopped.
