Third Person POV
Skellige.
...
...
The conversation with King Bran and Mousesack lasted about twenty minutes, while the king was still pondering.
"Damn creatures from those other worlds… They keep appearing. There are reports on every island! They even engaged our men in battle, but our warriors were all slaughtered by them!" said King Bran angrily, while Mousesack rested his chin on his hand, thoughtful.
"But they're not the only thing we should be worried about," said Mousesack, letting out a tired sigh.
"No," Madara replied in a serious tone. "They may be dangerous, but if you ask me, in my opinion, they're weak. Dealing with an army of them would be only slightly easier than dealing with Nilfgaard."
In Madara's opinion, those elven creatures were just another problem among so many others he had already faced in his life. Nilfgaard, elves, beings from another dark dimension, and a new continent with some people capable of using powers similar to his own...
"If there are more people like you out there, it will be a problem..." Bran murmured before looking at Madara. "Mousesack told me there was a clan called Uchiha a long time ago. It was wiped out three centuries ago."
"That's true," Madara confirmed.
"Have you discovered anything else about your clan?" Mousesack asked, interested. "As I said, it was erased from history. There are no more records. In fact, even its existence seems to have been deliberately removed. It's been three hundred years. Someone or a group exterminated them. And that has to do with those people who hunted you during the war, doesn't it?"
"Yes," Madara replied. "According to them, they joined together with the founders of the witcher schools in pursuit of power. The Uchiha clan should have remained hidden from most of the world, but the moment the leaders and creators of the witcher schools — as we know them today — reported to people from the other continent in search of power, they were attacked and massacred. I couldn't find anything indicating Uchihas survived either. I went to the village where my parents lived before moving to the capital, Cintra, back when I lived in the castle — there's no record of them. As you once told me yourself, there are no records of them coming from elsewhere. It's as if they appeared out of nowhere."
"You have a mystery in your hands, boy. I hope one day you solve it," said Bran, in a tone of condolence, still deep in thought.
"I just don't understand one thing… If they were from the Uchiha clan, why couldn't they defend themselves from a group of bandits? It doesn't make sense." Madara murmured.
Madara couldn't believe something so simple could have happened. The two Uchihas, hunted by an ambush on the road and killed, while he survived only thanks to the arrival of reinforcements from Cintra.
Couldn't his parents manipulate chakra? Madara wasn't even sure. Even so, how could they have lost to ordinary people? Even if they weren't true shinobi, they should have been far stronger than normal humans.
Didn't they have the Sharingan? Madara's parents shouldn't have been that simple, and it was hard for the boy to believe it. Even having a system, it was strange to think that his own parents could have been so... ordinary — not his parents...
"Well, whatever it is, I'm sure you'll find the answer in the future," said Mousesack in the end, while Madara watched him in silence.
"And one more thing," continued the druid. "Your former comrade from Cintra wants another audience with you."
"Again?" said Madara with a sigh. In the past few weeks, ever since he had arrived in Skellige, that man had constantly tried to request an audience with him and Ciri. He kept trying to convince them to reclaim Cintra.
"I'll speak with him anyway," Madara replied, turning to the two. "Bran, Mousesack, I believe we can solve all the problems..." Madara spoke confidently.
"...And then, we'll finally have our revenge," Bran completed, excited. Mousesack, however, remained silent.
"Yes, we'll make Nilfgaard regret the day it even looked north. I'm sure the emperor is eager for that. It's no wonder we caught some of their spies entering the islands — some even with the intent to assassinate us," said Madara with disdain. At least they tried to poison him; only him, because Ciri remained a key piece in the political game.
That lunatic emperor intended to marry his own daughter. Madara would deal with him in an unforgettable way.
"Well, let's end this. I'll train a bit with my son. Age never catches up to a warrior. And my son still has much to learn before the coming battles. I hope that, if I'm not here, he joins you in the war against Nilfgaard," said Bran proudly.
"As a king?" Madara asked, arching an eyebrow, while Bran snorted.
"As far as I know, my son doesn't have the capacity to be a king, but I hope someone better takes the throne after me. Still, I hope you and Svanrige will be friends," he said seriously, while Madara only nodded without saying anything else.
In any case, Madara left the place, leaping through the window — something that made King Bran and Mousesack merely shrug, already used to the peculiar way a shinobi moved.
Madara landed lightly on the roof before touching the stone ground. He entered through one of the windows, descending to the lower floors of the castle.
He exited on the other side, near the courtyard where his wedding with Ciri had taken place, and there he found a solitary man. He sighed and, instead of waiting for another audience, decided to go directly to him.
"Hello, Marshal Vissegerd," Madara greeted, as the man turned to him.
"Your Majesty," replied the Marshal. That was the title he always used to address Madara, ever since he learned that Madara had married the sole heir to Cintra's throne.
"I don't remember having any lands to govern, Marshal," Madara replied, as he always did — a common answer.
"Cintra is that land. By marrying Ciri, your queen, Cintra belongs to both of you to rule — and it's also your responsibility to reclaim it from the damned southerners," the marshal replied firmly.
"I know your eagerness to reclaim our former land, Marshal. However, I recall having said several times that this should be postponed. Cintra will be reclaimed… but not now," said Madara, in a firm and controlled voice.
"The people, Madara, Your Majesty... they treated you as a hero. Our people suffer. And only you can help them. I know you can," said the marshal, while Madara remained silent.
"Yes, I can help them, but that would tie me to something that would not allow me to help the rest of the world," Madara replied in a restrained tone. "The enemies are many — more than just the Nilfgaardian Empire. There are enemies of my blood who hunt me, enemies of Ciri's blood who are hunting her. I must not forget there are people from another continent and also beings from another world who are after our blood."
The Marshal seemed to press his lips tightly upon hearing that. Madara continued.
"If we reclaim Cintra now, we'll only turn the country into a bloody war. People will die in ways far crueler than if they were still under Nilfgaard's control. Do you at least understand that?" said Madara, already impatient, while the man finally nodded at the end, seeming to understand at last.
"Well, if that's all… I'm going to see my wife. Farewell." Madara spoke, turning to leave. "Go back to Lydia. Nilfgaard is plotting something. As soon as we settle our affairs, we'll have eyes on our former land. I haven't forgotten that Cintra was once my home, nor have I forgotten who stands beside me and the heritage she carries." Madara kept walking.
"Your Majesty!" the Marshal called out, his voice searching for something, as Madara stopped, glancing at him sideways with his head turned.
"Just answer me one question, Your Majesty," said the man. "Tell me: I know that you, bravely, killed more Nilfgaardian soldiers than anyone. All of us who survived saw the battle, while you burned thousands of Nilfgaardians and killed their command. However, what I heard later... you simply destroyed the entire army with your powers in the Battle of Sodden, powers that made us all tremble with fear. I want to understand why you didn't use that power to protect Cintra two months before that battle?"
Madara stared at the man for a few seconds. That was a complicated matter — after all, that had been a moment when he could have used his full power. The system had favored him by granting him a temporary power card, but only after he had left Cintra with Ciri.
"After all my actions, do you really believe I wanted to see Cintra die? Did you want me to end up running away in the end?" Madara asked firmly. "I told Calanthe that we should prepare long before Nilfgaard's attack. But she didn't listen to me. Calanthe was blinded by arrogance, believing Cintra would easily deal with the southern army. And before you say I didn't want to do anything — the power I unleashed in Sodden only came to me after I had to flee the kingdom. I hope you understand that, Marshal. Anyway, go back to Lydia. You won't find anything here yet. One day, you'll hear about the rebirth of Cintra — about us driving the invaders out of there. Only then will you be able to return to the kingdom, if you still consider it your home."
"I want to fight for Cintra," he replied.
"Then you shall. Just as many of our allies are shedding their blood for revenge, you may join the battle. Speak with King Bran and ask him to keep you informed about the war that's to come."
With that, Madara turned and began walking toward the castle gates, ignoring the servants and guards. He stopped in a corridor that led to another wing and looked to the side, seeing Ciri standing there, arms crossed and her back against the wall, staring at him.
"How much of our conversation did you hear?" Madara asked calmly. He knew that, even from a distance, she must have used magic to listen — he could even see the distortions in space caused by the energy of Chaos. But upon recognizing Ciri's magical signature, he didn't bother interrupting or stopping his conversation with the Marshal.
"I heard the whole conversation," she replied, having watched Madara head there while looking for him. "But you're right about what you said. For a long time, I longed to have Cintra again as our home. But now I know it's not the time."
She approached him, and Madara wrapped an arm around her waist, looking at her belly — still showing no visible changes. There were, however, other transformations: Ciri's breasts were beginning to grow, and the hormonal surges made her swing between irritation and tenderness. Even so, she was as beautiful as ever.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked, gazing at him with a loving and curious look.
"I talked with Yennefer, with King Bran, Mousesack, and the Marshal... I'm really overwhelmed today, if you must know," Madara replied.
"How about a walk through the city?" she asked, a faint smile forming on her lips.
"Doesn't sound like a bad idea," he replied.
"Then let's go," said Ciri, taking his hand with a mischievous sparkle in her eyes.
