Chapter 219 - Chapter 219 - Nothing like a vision of the future to convince him.

[Chapter Size: 2200 Words.]

Third Person POV

Kaedwen.

...

...

A knock on the massive vault door alerted all the dwarves on the other side, surprising them, while the explosive sound they had heard didn't come a second time.

The dwarves there looked at each other seeming lost, as once again, another knock hit the door.

"Should we open it, sir?" one of the guards asked his commander, who was still with the dwarves that had been in the royal chamber and brought the sorcerer and the girl.

A third knock hit the door, and none of them knew whether they should open it or not, until explosions began to happen.

BOOOOOM!

The door shook, catching the dwarves by surprise as they stepped back. Splinters and dust fell from the door and the ceiling with the explosion.

"Are they trying to break down the door?!" the dwarf commander said, stunned.

"And what if it's not them... and it's the monster... it's been 10 minutes since they went in... they must have been devoured..." said the court dwarf.

"..."

Everyone there saw that as reasonable as another explosion occurred, making the place tremble.

"If that creature gets through... we're dead..." a guard murmured fearfully.

And while everyone was tense about it, suddenly a different explosion happened as a purple lightning bolt cut through the metal, piercing to the other side in the shape of a spear, starting at the bottom and then moving upward, slicing up to the top of the door.

The door then split in half, with the cut easily going through the tons of metal made to protect the vault, leaving all the dwarves speechless.

The next moment, another explosion hit the door as it was destroyed, splitting in half while the dwarves quickly saw the two parts flying toward them and began running away in desperation.

It slammed the ground several times, creating multiple impacts and cracks, nearly crushing the dwarves fleeing in fear.

When it finally stopped at a distance and things seemed to calm down, two people came out of the vault, with the dwarves staring at them stunned, swallowing hard.

"It can't be possible... the sorcerer really killed the monster?" one of the dwarves murmured as the sorcerer stopped in the middle of the place.

"It's done, you can see for yourself," Geralt said in a tone lacking pride, since he wasn't the one who defeated the creature and had only been a spectator.

The court dwarf stood up and ran past Geralt and Ciri into the vault, stopping at the railing from where he could see the entire chamber, where the creature lay—its body sliced in half—fallen in the middle of the gold, while green blood, the color of that worm's blood, soaked the entire mountain treasure.

"They really did it..."

Other dwarves went to check, dazed; barely any time had passed since they entered, and they had simply destroyed the monster that a thousand dwarves couldn't handle.

"Can we see your king now?" Geralt asked in a neutral tone.

"Y-yes..." was all the dwarf could answer amid all that.

"We'll maintain the guard here... besides, the king must already be on his way at this very moment. There's nothing happening in this mountain he doesn't know about," the commander said.

"He's right, our lord must be coming here," the stunned dwarf, who had even agreed to Geralt's request, murmured.

It didn't take long for dwarves to appear from the tunnel through which they had come to the vault, with a large number of dwarf warriors and the king himself looking quite rushed.

"Let me through and see!" the dwarf said with a hurried look, pushing past the other dwarves, even passing Geralt and Ciri, looking at the vault with the dead creature inside.

"They killed the creature..." Even he didn't seem to believe what he was seeing.

He stood there for a while as Geralt waited for any attack ordered by the king, while they were surrounded by dwarves with weapons, awaiting further orders.

"I want to speak with the witcher and his companion. I want the entrance protected immediately and no one allowed near my treasure," he said, leaving the vault and looking with dissatisfaction at the door split in two.

"Why did you break the door?" He seemed quite irritated about it.

"No one wanted to open it for us, so we had to break in," Geralt said, while in fact it had been Madara, once again transformed into a kunai on Ciri's belt.

They headed once more to the throne room, while the king appeared to be making signals to the dwarves with small gestures along the way, preparing something for them. Geralt and Ciri noticed this and got ready for anything the king might throw at them.

The king advanced into the throne room as they were escorted, until he sat in his chair and looked at them with a certain interest.

"I admit... I wasn't expecting something like that when I sent you to defeat the monster, much less in such a short time," he said calmly.

"So you expected us to die there," Geralt said angrily.

"That's true... but that was the price to pass the mountain, and you passed. But you deceived me as well," he said with a narrow look at the girl, though he didn't know exactly what had happened in there, he knew someone else had been with the two.

"You've been hiding someone the whole time."

Upon hearing this, Ciri immediately grabbed her sword again, with Geralt already preparing to strike as the guards in the room also braced for a potential fight.

Despite that, the two were surrounded by dwarves.

A smoke explosion happened at that moment as Madara appeared for the first time.

"You seem to have some interesting skills, dwarf," Madara said as he emerged from the smoke.

The place went completely silent, even the king was surprised by this.

"Dwarf?! You're calling the king just a dwarf?" a counselor was immediately offended by Madara's words, despite being surprised that he had just appeared from nowhere with that explosion.

"I bow to no one and I don't intend to start today or in the future, so don't expect any respect from me, especially with the trap you're preparing on the upper floor of this audience chamber," Madara said calmly, though there was a hint of disdain.

The dwarf king made a grimace at Madara's words before looking at him with a certain anger.

"You are Uchiha Madara. I can know the name of anyone who enters this mountain. I was already surprised by the girl, and now you... You're quite famous, and there are even large bounties for your whereabouts..." he began, and Madara raised an eyebrow. This dwarf had some peculiar connection to the mountain—perhaps that's why he was king.

But then he saw something on the dwarf king's crown, a gemstone among the precious ones, shining with a mystical blue. Madara had read about it in Mousesack's library in Cintra, though the information had been quite limited.

But that was the heart of the mountain.

What granted dominion over this place—no wonder he could identify anyone who was there.

"But I was thinking..." the dwarf king continued, raising his arm as the sound of multiple footsteps echoed while several dwarves with crossbows began emerging from the second floor entrances of the hall, positioning themselves around the three and aiming their weapons at them.

"Perhaps handing over your heads would be even more profitable to fill my coffers," he said confidently.

"You seem to forget we killed a monster that a thousand dwarves couldn't stop," Madara mocked.

"Then we'll send two thousand dwarves to kill you. After all, you saw my vault—I can't let you live after that. I don't want news of my wealth leaking out, nor do I want to deal with thieves of your kind," he said.

"I remember a woman once thought she could do the same to us... many years ago. How about I show you your future—and the future of this mountain?" Madara said, unfazed by the crossbows.

Eithné had tried something similar in the forest of Brokilon, and he had placed her in a genjutsu. He would do the same to this foolish king.

As the king looked at Madara like a fool, he saw the boy's eyes change, turning blood red. He froze before he could say anything, locking eyes with those crimson orbs.

Everything went silent for a few seconds as Ghoirf Rookiedner, the dwarf king, remained quiet, his men waiting for any command, while Ciri and Geralt prepared for an attack.

It lasted only seconds—then the king began to show an expression of terror, sweat dripping from his face.

"Ahh!" he screamed, slamming against his chair, instinctively trying to retreat, staring at Madara in horror.

"My lord?!" someone ran to him as the king appeared to be in shock, still fixated on Madara's red eyes.

"Quick, that guy did something to the king!" he pointed at Madara as a crossbow was triggered, followed quickly by others, aimed directly at Madara.

But he caught the first bolt and began deflecting the others effortlessly, his eyes still locked on the king.

He finally looked away just as the last bolt was deflected, throwing it from his hand directly at the dwarf who had shot it, while simultaneously retrieving all the bolts and returning them to each of the dwarves who had tried to strike him.

It all happened so fast that as soon as the first dwarf was hit, another followed, and then another, until over 15 dwarves were writhing in pain, their necks shredded in mere seconds, shocking everyone.

As more crossbows were being readied to fire, the king intervened in desperation.

"Wait!! Don't shoot him! Stop, stop!" He was no longer the confident king from moments ago, now screaming in despair.

Madara seemed to have shown him a vision of the future—one that terrified him to the core—his mountain destroyed, and his entire race slaughtered by that red-eyed monster.

Everyone stopped immediately, watching their comrades writhe in pain with bolts in their throats nearby, looking lost.

"They are not to be attacked anymore... Do you hear me?! They are not to be attacked under any circumstances!" the king exclaimed, his expression nervous and frightened.

Ciri and Geralt exchanged glances as the king turned back to Madara, seemingly afraid of his next words.

"You'll leave us alone and won't destroy us if I let you pass through to the other side without issue?" he asked, afraid of Madara's response.

"As long as you don't leak the information that we were here," Madara said in a serious tone.

"It will be done... just don't destroy us..." the king replied as Madara nodded.

"Very well," Madara said at last as the king let out a sigh.

"Take them to the other side of the wall, do not harm them in any way, and just let them pass through," was all the king said, while the dwarves nodded, though confused and worried.

"Let's go..." Madara said, stepping forward as Geralt and Ciri nodded, following him with the dwarves beginning to gesture for them to follow.

The dwarves on the upper floor could only watch as Madara walked out with Geralt and Ciri after the king's command, while their companions lay dead on the ground nearby—killed by Madara, who simply walked away, and the king did nothing more.

"My king... why did you do that? Let them go after everything?" the counselors couldn't hide their shock at the situation, while the king sat there looking terrified.

"I had to do it—we were all going to die... that human with red eyes... if he even is human... I saw him killing us all... I had heard of him, and I thought the rumors were absurd, but now..."

The dwarf laughed bitterly at the mention of Uchiha Madara and the danger he had supposedly represented in the war, disbelieving that a human could kill more than a hundred thousand men... but after everything he saw, it felt so real, as he remembered the pain of dying and the destruction of the mountain.

Meanwhile, they mounted their horses again as Madara summoned his, departing as the dwarves showed them the tunnel to exit.

"Thank you..."

Madara glanced sideways as Ciri broke the silence while they continued on their way.

"For?" Madara asked.

"For not needing to kill everyone..." Ciri said.

Madara could've simply destroyed the dwarves, but she had asked him not to act that way. So they had chosen to attempt a peaceful path first—even though, in the end, Madara had to kill some while showing the king his future.

He simply nodded, and they pressed forward.

A door was finally opened after two hours traveling through the tunnel, until they arrived at the location, the exit on the other side of the continent finally coming into view as they rode ahead—to meet Yennefer and travel through the other kingdoms.
