Three days later.
Lynn was reviewing an internal security report from Motoko Kusanagi.
It listed a string of names that needed to be "optimized" away.
The office door did not open.
The windows were also tightly shut.
Yet, Lynn's nose twitched slightly.
He turned his executive chair.
Sure enough, an elegant black wildcat had already slipped in silently.
Selina swayed her hips as she approached the desk and gently placed a yellowed black-and-white photograph on the surface.
In the photo, a scrawny Steve Rogers was stubbornly puffing out his chest.
"I'm done, boss."
She did not wait for Lynn's praise, nor did she have even half a shred of a subordinate's self-awareness.
With a spin, she lazily sat on Lynn's large mahogany desk, her long legs crossed, the tips of her black high-heeled leather boots swaying gently.
The black leather outfit shimmered with an alluring luster under the lights, forming a sharp contrast with the documents on the desk that symbolized power and order.
This was an extremely aggressive action.
She was invading his territory.
"Now, it is time for me to choose my reward."
She looked around the office, which was enough to make any Wall Street tycoon jealous.
The antique vase in the corner, the priceless collection of wines in the cabinet.
Finally, her gaze fell back on Lynn.
Selina reached out with her black-gloved hand and gently hooked Lynn's tie.
The silky fabric wound around her fingers, and she applied a little force, wanting to pull this man who controlled everything toward her.
Just as she was about to succeed.
Lynn made his move.
He grabbed Selina's wrist.
"Hmm?"
Selina's expression changed slightly, and just as she wanted to break free, she felt an irresistible force coming from her wrist.
Lynn twisted his wrist.
Giving her no chance to react at all, he pulled her off the desk entirely.
With a short gasp, Lynn pressed her firmly onto that mahogany desk.
Half her body was pressed onto those classified documents and the map of the European battlefield, in a position that was disheveled and humiliating.
There was not a shred of fear in Selina's eyes.
Because this sudden offense ignited an even more dangerous flame.
"Is this how you treat a meritorious servant, boss?"
Selina's voice remained provocative, carrying repressed gasps.
"Or is it that... you already can't wait to pay your reward?"
"You are very bold, Selina."
Lynn leaned down, one hand still pressing her down like an iron clamp.
The fingers of his other hand, however, traced lightly over the map beside them.
From the coastline of France, all the way to the depths of The Alps.
A red skull was marked there.
"After a war is fought and an empire falls, what do you think is left behind?"
"Ruins, widows, and countless medals."
Selina gritted her teeth in response, trying to twist her body, but found the other's strength to be astonishingly great.
"It is wealth."
Lynn corrected her, his finger tapping heavily on the location of the final HYDRA stronghold on the map.
"It is a massive amount of wealth, enough to make the entire World go crazy."
"HYDRA has plundered half of Europe's artwork, gold, and jewelry. In their secret Base, they hide the complete research notes on the Tesseract that Howard Stark dreams of having."
"The victors will be like hyenas smelling blood, pouncing to tear apart this massive corpse. The United States, Britain, the Soviet Union... they will quarrel endlessly over the spoils."
Lynn raised his head, his gaze falling back onto the wild body beneath him.
"And I, do not intend to share the cake with them."
He leaned close to her ear, speaking slowly in a volume only the two of them could hear.
"I intend to move the entire dining table back to my kitchen."
This man's ambition was far more terrifying than she had imagined.
Selina even felt a shudder.
It was an excitement stemming from touching a taboo.
After finishing, Lynn released his hand and stood up straight, composed.
He looked down at Selina, who was slowly rising from the desk, as if admiring an artwork that had just been tamed by him but still shone with brilliance.
Selina adjusted her slightly disheveled leather outfit with elegant movements, but her slightly flushed cheeks and rapid breathing betrayed her inner turbulence.
"What do you want me to do?"
She asked.
Lynn took a small silver disc from the drawer and tossed it to her.
"This is a miniature version of a repulsion field generator; I call it a Silencer. It can block all electronic detection and Soundwave sensing within a ten-meter radius for thirty minutes. It is enough for you to sneak into anywhere."
Selina caught the disc.
"My product testers will create enough of a commotion on the front side to attract everyone's attention."
A smile that made generals tremble appeared on Lynn's face.
"I want you to take this opportunity to sneak into the deepest part of the Base."
"The greatest heist in the entire World."
Selina smiled, a bright smile from the heart.
"To steal the legacy of an empire."
She spun the silver disc between her fingers and tucked it into the inside of her leather outfit. When she looked up again, the provocation in her eyes had returned, even with a bit more heat.
She extended a finger.
This time, it was not to hook his tie.
"The reward for the last job... I haven't chosen it yet."
"So, I have decided."
She extended her index finger, her fingertip tapping lightly on his warm chest.
"My reward is you. Tonight."
Lynn showed a surprised expression.
He reached out and pinched Selina's smooth chin, his fingertips feeling that delicate skin.
"Are you sure?"
"My time is more expensive than any jewelry in the World."
A cunning glint flashed in Selina's green eyes.
She met Lynn's grip, leaning closer until their noses were almost touching.
"Precisely because of that."
"It is worthy of my price."
What a 'worthy of her price'.
Interesting.
Truly interesting.
He liked this kind of transaction with teeth.
"Fine."
Lynn nodded without the slightest hesitation.
His decisiveness caught Selina off guard for a moment.
She could not see through this man before her.
He could always control everything with ease, including her provocations and desires.
"Wait for me."
Selina left a meaningful look, flirted with Lynn a few times, and then swayed her hips as she disappeared from the office like a black Shadow.
Lynn sat back in his executive chair and reached out to pick up that black-and-white photo of Steve Rogers from the desk.
His other hand took out a lighter, and with a "click", a ghostly blue Fire flickered up.
He set the photo on fire and casually tossed it into the ashtray.
The Fire licked the yellowed photo paper, devouring the stubborn face of that scrawny youth, along with those memories belonging to the past.
A perfect totem does not need unnecessary attachments.
