Why do hidden elders in games and novels always want to test the younger generation?
They simply want to compare the young person in front of them to their past selves to judge the young person's aptitude, or perhaps they wish to impart some wisdom, gained from many years of experience, to the youngster before them. Rarely is it purely to nitpick.
