As expected, the descendants of the First Hokage have truly fallen! Suimoku looked at Nawaki with an expression of deep disappointment, ready to scold him and impart some battlefield survival wisdom.
But before he could speak, Xin said, "Sounds good. Suimoku, take your team and go hunting."
Suimoku swore he had never encountered such an odd team before. They were on a mission, yet they still wanted to eat grilled meat!
Even though the grilled meat smelled delicious, and Suimoku ate quite a few pieces, he still felt that this was not the right approach.
The smoke from the fire could easily reveal their position and attract the enemy.
After they finished eating, Xin calmly extinguished the fire and reminded them, "You can all rest easy tonight. If any enemies approach, I'll let you know."
Minato and Nawaki didn't argue, finding a spot sheltered from the rain and quickly dozing off after a long day of pushing carts.
In contrast, Suimoku and the other two Chunin captains seemed uneasy.
They assumed Xin would be on watch and volunteered to keep him company.
"Captain, we'll stay up with you on watch."
"There are enough of us to take turns so everyone can get some rest. One person staying up all night would be too exhausting."
"I'm not staying up," Xin replied, looking at the three, who were eager to help with the night watch. "You should all just rest. I'll handle everything else. Look, those two are already about to fall asleep."
With Ophis around, why would he need to stay up? That would only make things harder for himself. Better to get some sleep and save his strength for tomorrow's cart-pushing.
Glancing at the carts piled with supplies, Xin sighed.
The technology in the Naruto world was oddly skewed. While medical technology had advanced incredibly, other areas lagged frustratingly behind.
Especially in terms of mechanical transport.
Sure, they could build robots, but they still couldn't make decent vehicles.
And as for guns... the ones they had were outdated and almost useless.
Are we really stuck with an unreliable squad leader?
Watching Xin dig a hole in a tree with a kunai and settle in to rest, Suimoku, Yama, and Sasaro felt a wave of despair.
What should you do when you're stuck with an unreliable squad leader?
Waiting for advice, urgent.
"I'm ordering you three to rest. If you have any complaints or dissatisfaction, you can report them after the mission is over. For now, follow my orders," Xin said, noticing the trio whispering amongst themselves, clearly up to no good.
Working with people outside his own team was such a hassle.
They always found something wrong with his decisions.
It was much simpler with his own team.
"I'm definitely reporting you to Danzo-sama," Suimoku grumbled in frustration before leading his team to rest.
What choice did they have? The captain had practically ordered them to rest in a stern tone.
All they could do was lie down and hope they wouldn't be the ones blamed if something went wrong. If the enemy attacked, their best bet would be to run for it and then report Xin's misconduct.
What a reckless leader! How could someone so strong have so little dedication to the mission?
What was Danzo-sama thinking, putting him in charge of the transport?
