Michael forgot that this place was still quite behind in their technology and medicine.
Here, people still didn't know that disease came from bacteria and viruses that could spread through air and physical contact.
This was due to the fact that they didn't have to discover bacteria. This world had magic that helped them basically give a panacea that allowed them to heal a lot of the afflictions and diseases of this world even if they didn't necessarily know what caused it in the first place.
But with the loss of magic in the world, that panacea was no longer as easily available as it was before.
Before, one could hire an apothecary or a magician to help them cure a disease. But now, those conveniences were gone.
Now, one had to go through medicine the hard way. Of course, Apothecaries still had traditional medicines that they offered. However, some of them were not effective in healing or curing certain diseases.
