Chapter 27 - the aftermath

Krist was led out of the woods by two cops. He was taken to where the others were. Mia and Maya were currently being treated while Harrison was giving his statement. Evelyn just sat in the distance, her head down. Krist looked at her for a while; he could feel that something was wrong.

"She has been like that since she went on a rampage," Maya's voice echoed from behind. "Rampage?" Krist asked in confusion and shifted his gaze to Maya.

"Right, you wouldn't know," Maya continued. "When I was cornered on the rooftop, they received a message giving them the go-ahead to kill us. The men lookout thrilled after receiving the order, and the one in charge didn't decide to kill me immediately. Instead, he wanted to turture me first. But before he could even start, his head was blown off. I turned to the side, and it turned out my mom was the one who took the shot."

Maya's eyes welled up with tears. "And ever since then, she has been like this. She hasn't said a word. She has just been looking at her hands as if in a trance."

Krist's gaze turned cold when he heard that one of them was thinking of torturing Maya. He became very angry and vowed to himself that he was going to get rid of all of them, from the top to the root.

After listening to what Maya had said, Krist turned to look at Mia and asked, "She was with you and Harry, right? So, explain what happened from the beginning."

Mia nodded and started narrating. "It started when they blew up the door. She started shivering, and the next thing she started behaving as if she was having a panic attack. But she still obeyed and stayed behind us as me and Harry held off those guys. But it turned out that those guys were just too many, and they ended up overwhelming us. So, we decided to retreat by going up the stairs."

"When we started retreating, she turned ahead and saw Maya being surrounded through the window. Then it was as if she was possessed by something. She just went on a rampage and started attacking, and surprisingly, she dealt with them very easily. She's like a very skilled fighter."

"Before me and Harry knew what was going on, she had already dealt with everyone in front of her and was outside, having aimed at the rooftop. We saw the lifeless body with a hole in his head falling from the floor, and since then, she has been like this. She hasn't said a word to anyone; she has just been staring at her hands."

Mia explained, Krist maya called out to him after Mia finished her explanation. Krist looked at her, and there was worry in her eyes. "Please help my mom," she said in a low voice. "We've tried everything we can, even the police, but she isn't responding. I don't know what to do." She started sobbing.

Krist pulled her closer and caressed her hair. She then broke down in his arms. He didn't know what to do, so he just let her cry while he caressed her hair. He knew it would be hard for her if anything happened to her mom.

After crying for some time, she eventually stopped crying but refused to let go of him and chose to stay in his arms until the cop came and asked Krist to come and give a report. She then let go of him but reluctantly,Krist then put on a serious face and left with the police officer, giving a small nod to Harrison, who had just joined them after giving his own report.

Krist then walked off with the police officer. The police officer asked Krist some questions, which he answered honestly. Then he asked him about the weapons they used when fighting the invaders. Krist lied, saying he found them in his parents' room, and they were the only ones there, and there were no more.

Then they asked about the blown-up vehicles, and Krist said it was the house's security system. The cop didn't say anything since Krist's parents once owned the best technology company in the continent, so it would be weird if their house didn't have some protection.

After asking him a few more questions, they rounded up the invaders they caught and left while leaving two cops to look after them for the time being.

After the cops left, Evelyn finally got up and walked up to Maya. "We need to talk," she said. "It's about time you learned about my past."

As Evelyn's words hung in the air, Maya's eyes widened, a mix of curiosity and apprehension. Krist, still processing the events, watched the exchange with interest. The police had left, but the tension lingered.

Evelyn's gaze locked onto Maya's, her voice firm but laced with an underlying emotion. "Let's go somewhere private." Maya nodded, still looking uncertain. Krist, sensing something significant was about to unfold, followed them, along with Mia and Harrison.

They walked to a secluded area, away from prying eyes. Evelyn's demeanor changed, her confidence and composure wavering. "Maya, there's something I should've told you long ago," she began, her voice barely above a whisper.

Maya's eyes searched her mother's face, anticipation and fear mingling. "What is it, Mom?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly.

Evelyn took a deep breath, her eyes darting around the group before focusing on Maya. "My past... it's complicated. The things I've done, the people I've hurt... you need to understand why."

Evelyn's eyes locked onto Maya's, and for a moment, Krist thought he saw a glimmer of something in her eyes, something that looked like determination. "Let's go somewhere private," Evelyn said, her voice firm but laced with an underlying emotion.
