Chapter 204 - Chapter 201: Self-Delusion

When this had first started happening, Mai Sakurajima had considered the question too.

But her own abnormality appeared only sporadically, so she never thought deeply about it — not until this time, when she had remained in a perpetually unnoticed, unobservable state for so long that it forced her to reconsider.

And the conclusion she reached was this: 'If I truly am being ignored by everyone, then let me just disappear like this.'

Let the girl named 'Sakurajima Mai' vanish from this world forever — without leaving behind a single trace, a single memory.

Until she met the person who could observe her and seek her out.

She had watched everything he did, every act of consideration, and taken it all to heart.

She realized that she was, in truth, afraid of being alone. Afraid of solitude. She didn't want to be by herself — she needed someone to talk to, and she genuinely enjoyed conversation.

Even if it was only one person, she could accept that completely.

But now —

She realized that even that wish seemed to be turning into something too much to ask for.

Lin Ye's memory had already begun to be affected.

"Please keep the promise you made to me, Student Lin."

"I still… don't want to disappear like this."

There were so many things she still hadn't done, so many wishes left unfulfilled.

"Please… help me."

"Woof, woof, woof!"

John seemed to sense Mai Sakurajima's low spirits and lifted his head, barking energetically — his bright, full-of-fight attitude managed to bring a small flicker of life and energy back to her.

"Thank you, John."

At least so far, John had never once failed to notice her.

She had actually started wondering whether John had something special about him.

Could it be because of where he came from — because he was a creature from that other world?

After all, she herself had been pulled into the Strange Chiba Park, and the Strange entities inside had all been able to observe her without being affected by her abnormality.

And from what Lin Ye had told her, John also came from that side — which was why he wasn't affected by her abnormality either.

Sakurajima Mai crouched down and beckoned to John. He immediately got up and trotted over to her side, tongue lolling, his whole face radiating a cheerful, happy grin.

She patted John on the head. "Maybe from now on, you'll be the only one who can see me."

"Woof, woof, woof!"

He barked back at her with full enthusiasm.

Sakurajima Mai let out a faint, bittersweet smile.

As she'd expected — compared to John the German Shepherd, she still hoped for Lin Ye, a person, to be there. Even if Lin Ye occasionally snuck glances at her legs, took little liberties with her, and sometimes teased her with quips that left her embarrassed… even so, if that kind of life and those kinds of interactions were to disappear entirely, she would truly, genuinely miss them.

Some things — you only understand their worth after they're gone.

Knock knock knock!

After the knock came the sound of the door opening, and Lin Ye returned carrying breakfast.

"Senpai, breakfast."

"Mm."

The two of them sat down on either side of the small dining table in their usual, everyday fashion and began eating.

A faint, comfortable warmth drifted through the air.

One boy, one girl, one dog. A small but somehow cozy apartment.

It felt like home.

Bzzt, bzzt, bzzt…

Halfway through breakfast, Lin Ye's phone vibrated.

He picked up the call.

"You're back? You're okay, right!"

Kyou Fujibayashi had woken up that morning only to find a safety-check text from Lin Ye sitting in her messages from the middle of the night.

Though it had eased her worry considerably, she still chose to call directly to confirm his situation.

"I'm fine — I'm back, so nothing's wrong. Don't worry."

"Mm."

Kyou Fujibayashi nodded. "Don't forget about our arrangement."

"I haven't."

"Good."

But Kyou didn't hang up right away. She hesitated for a few seconds, then added, "Ryou is going to invite you over to our place."

Him visiting together with Iroha Isshiki was normal enough, but in Kyou Fujibayashi's view, something about it had a slightly off feel to it.

"I'll be there."

"Anyway — I have a feeling Ryou is starting to get a little impatient. If that day comes and she goes straight for the direct approach, you had better keep it steady for me."

"Relax. What I promised you, I'll deliver."

Kyou's worry was understandable.

Lin Ye could sense the urgency coming from that girl too.

"Fine. If you can't pull it off, don't expect me to go easy on you."

As she said it, she clenched her fist and punched the air — though Lin Ye couldn't see that.

"You can't beat me."

"Can't beat you doesn't mean I won't try. If frontal assault doesn't work, I'll find another way. Hmph."

At the very least, Kyou Fujibayashi was not losing this verbal exchange.

The call ended.

Lin Ye looked up to find Sakurajima Mai sitting beside him, watching him with those beautiful eyes of hers.

"What is it, Senpai? Do I have food on my face?"

"Who was that."

"…"

Lin Ye wasn't quite sure why Sakurajima Mai was asking.

"A friend, I'd say."

"Is she pretty?"

"Yes."

"Does she like you?"

"She doesn't."

"What's going on between the two of you?"

"Quite a lot, actually — not sure what specifically Senpai wants to know."

"The most intimate thing."

"Oh, now that's quite something."

Lin Ye put on an exaggerated expression and laughed. "She's nothing like the stingy Senpai sitting next to me — she was willing to sleep beside me and attend to my every need. Senpai really ought to take a page from her book. I'm looking forward to the day Senpai takes the initiative herself."

Sakurajima Mai gave him a withering look.

"Go tell that to yourself and see if you believe it."

She wasn't buying it for a second.

Sakurajima Mai figured Lin Ye was just saying it to get a rise out of her. Something that outlandish — it sounded fake from the first word. Only Lin Ye would ever say something like that out loud.

Any other man would never dare say that kind of thing to her face.

"Sigh, why does nobody ever believe the truth? I'm hurt."

Lin Ye shook his head with exaggerated regret. "Senpai, after this — are you coming with me to Sobu High, or staying at the apartment?"

"Sobu High."

She absolutely did not want to be left alone in this apartment. Even with John for company, she'd rather go to Sobu High and sit alone in the Service Club classroom than stay cooped up in this tiny apartment.

Staying here — her mood would only get worse.

Lin Ye could sense that something was off with Mai's state right now.

His reaction this morning had been noticed by Sakurajima Mai, making her worry and dread even worse.

He had confidence in Senpai's inner resilience — but what if? When people reached a breaking point, they could do things even they themselves wouldn't believe themselves capable of. So… getting Sakurajima Mai back to normal as quickly as possible was the best course of action.

Lin Ye and Sakurajima Mai headed to Sobu High together.

They took the train to the nearest stop and walked the rest of the way.

Sakurajima Mai watched the youthful, energetic scene around her — high school students in twos and threes, gathered together, walking toward school with smiles on their faces and cheerful chatter filling the air.

This was the high school life she had yearned for. She was still a high schooler herself, but the vast majority of her time was spent in the entertainment industry.

Actually commuting to school like this — it happened so rarely now.

If things went back to normal, she definitely wanted to pause her career for a while, come back to school, and live as an ordinary high school student for a stretch.

"Senpai, Senpai—!"

Suddenly, a lively voice rang out from behind them.

Lin Ye didn't even need to turn around to know who it was.

Sakurajima Mai had assumed it wasn't calling for Lin Ye — until the cute kouhai overtook them and spun around to block Lin Ye's path, and only then did she realize this kouhai was calling for Lin Ye after all.

"Senpai, you're so, so, so unreasonable! Huff, huff, huff…"

Iroha Isshiki braced both hands on her knees, catching her breath — that little sprint had taken a lot out of her.

"Isshiki, I don't think I've done anything."

"That's exactly why it's unreasonable! Senpai—"

She tilted her head up, revealing her pretty, delicate face. "I called you from so far away — the least you could do is stop and wait for your cute kouhai, couldn't you?"

"Sorry, but what I like is a gorgeous, sexy, long-black-haired senpai — not a cute kouhai. Isshiki, you're a great girl, but we're just not a good match."

Iroha Isshiki: ???

Sakurajima Mai: ???

The girl with long black hair flicked a sidelong glance at him, a faint blush creeping onto her cheeks.

She knew perfectly well that no one else could see her — but she still felt a small, undeniable rush from Lin Ye saying that. It had a certain… thrill to it.

Lin Ye definitely said it on purpose. Otherwise, why would every detail perfectly match her situation?

"There's no gorgeous, sexy senpai around here — Yukinoshita-senpai is definitely not sexy. Her figure is completely lacking."

Lin Ye shifted his gaze and raised a hand to point.

Realizing what that meant, Iroha Isshiki froze — then her eyes slowly went wide with shock. She swallowed, spun around immediately, and bent forward in a deep bow. "I'm sorry, Senpai, I — I didn't mean it, I really didn't mean it, I was just, just—"

She trailed off, then cautiously lifted her head — only to find no trace of Yukino Yukinoshita anywhere in front of her.

She'd been tricked.

Iroha Isshiki had been tricked by her senpai, Lin Ye.

"Senpai…!"

In that instant, Iroha Isshiki gritted her teeth. "You're terrible! I — I'm angry, I'm unhappy, I'm extremely unhappy."

She puffed her cheeks out and glared daggers at Lin Ye, looking for all the world like she wanted to swallow him whole.

Lin Ye wore a grin he couldn't even begin to hide.

"Senpai, you're still laughing — ugh, you're the worst!"

Iroha Isshiki balled up her small fist and pounded it against Lin Ye's chest several times.

That soft, fluffy force couldn't hurt him at all — it felt more like a massage.

"You seem in great spirits today — full of energy. I was just trying to help you settle down a little."

"As if! I was nearly scared to death — I thought Senpai had actually shown up and heard me say—"

Iroha Isshiki's words cut off abruptly. "Senpai."

"You were trying to trick me."

Lin Ye chuckled — he'd seen through her little scheme in an instant.

The cool, familiar voice reached Lin Ye's ears from behind him, giving him a start.

It really was Yukinoshita.

Iroha Isshiki hadn't been bluffing.

"Good morning, Yukinoshita."

Lin Ye turned and greeted Yukino Yukinoshita.

"Good morning."

The cool girl with the long black hair returned the greeting. She stood there carrying her bag, expression calm, her mood impossible to read at a glance.

"Isshiki — heard what about me?"

"N-nothing!"

Iroha Isshiki shook her head frantically. How could she possibly say that she'd called Senpai's figure lacking?

"Really?"

"Well… actually, it was Senpai who said it—"

Yukino Yukinoshita's gaze shifted to Lin Ye. "He said what?"

"Senpai, he… said that he likes a senpai with long black hair."

The words landed and silence spread.

All three people present — no, four — went quiet.

Especially Yukino Yukinoshita herself. After a brief moment of stunned surprise, a faint tinge of pink rose to her fair cheeks.

First thing in the morning, and he was already saying 'he likes her' — saying it to Iroha Isshiki, of all people. Wasn't that rather inappropriate?

How could he say something like that to another girl?

"Isshiki-kouhai, this joke has gone far enough."

"No — it's not a joke. Ask Senpai yourself — he really said it."

Iroha Isshiki pointed straight at Lin Ye, her voice firm and unyielding.

With both girls' eyes on him, Lin Ye finally gave a slow nod. "I did say it."

But the person he'd said it to wasn't Yukino Yukinoshita — it was Sakurajima Mai.

At that moment, Sakurajima Mai reached out and tugged lightly at Lin Ye's sleeve. "Your kouhai left out one adjective — sexy, you know. She definitely left it out on purpose."

There was the tiniest hint of grievance in her voice, as though she were quietly protesting Isshiki's omission.

The expression on Yukino Yukinoshita's face shifted slightly. Her eyes grew a touch brighter, the flush of shyness deepening.

She let out a quiet breath to settle the fluttering in her chest.

This quasi-fiancé of hers really did have a talent for giving her headaches.

"I can't give you an answer right now. Ask me again the next time you formally confess, and I'll give you my reply then."

Because this wasn't a formal confession, she couldn't give him an answer.

But saying nothing at all didn't feel right either — Lin Ye had admitted it, after all.

She was sure Lin Ye was waiting for her response.

Yukinoshita felt a small pang of regret for having pressed Iroha Isshiki. If she hadn't asked, at least she wouldn't have to face this awkwardness right now, wouldn't have had to tie herself in knots over it.

And so in the end, Yukino Yukinoshita gave that particular answer.

She looked at Lin Ye. Their eyes met, gazes locking together.

The moment those words reached Iroha Isshiki's ears, she stared with her eyes blown wide open — absolutely stunned.

What did that mean?

How was that any different from Senpai accepting Senpai's confession? There was zero difference. Absolutely none.

All Senpai had to do was formally confess once, and Yukinoshita-senpai would say yes.

Shocking!

The cool, untouchable school beauty of Sobu High, Yukino Yukinoshita, actually had a man she liked — a man she was willing to say yes to.

If this got out, who knew how many broken hearts would be left weeping in its wake.

When had Senpai developed feelings for her Senpai? When had she fallen for him? How had she not noticed a single thing?

Iroha Isshiki's mind raced through every moment she'd witnessed Lin Ye and Yukino Yukinoshita together.

It seemed… it seemed… that developing feelings made a lot of sense, actually. Falling for him wasn't really such a stretch.

After all, the two of them were practically together morning and night by this point — and they spent time alone together in the private space of the Service Club, just the two of them, a boy and a girl. With that kind of contact, of course feelings would develop.

Still, Iroha Isshiki was shocked — both by the speed of it, and by the answer Senpai had just given. A girl as cool and aloof as Yukinoshita-senpai should have played harder to get, shouldn't she?

Who responds with 'formally confess and I'll accept' like it's nothing?

What stage had these feelings reached? What on earth had Senpai done to win Senpai's heart?

As for the other person at the center of all this — Lin Ye was equally caught off guard.

The cool girl standing in front of him had given a very direct answer.

What Iroha Isshiki had figured out, he had naturally figured out too.

This was moving fast. Way too fast.

His relationship with Yukinoshita was supposed to still be in the getting-to-know-each-other phase — they were quasi-fiancés, at that. Yet judging from Yukino Yukinoshita's reaction and response just now, it seemed like things had already progressed to the stage where they were practically a couple.

All he had to do was formally confess, and she'd be willing to go out with him.

Unexpected. Completely unexpected.

Sakurajima Mai watched the two of them, then reached out and gave Lin Ye a light pat on the shoulder. "You know…"

She let the syllables drag out, smiling at him with clear amusement.

Hadn't this guy been pulling all kinds of ambiguous stunts and taking liberties this whole time?

Now the opportunity had arrived, and Sakurajima Mai decided to strike back.

She was genuinely curious what sort of interesting reaction Lin Ye would have.

"If I said I'd accept your confession — what would you choose?"

The moment those words hit his ears, Lin Ye froze again, his gaze swinging immediately toward Sakurajima Mai senpai standing right beside him.

Had he heard that wrong?

But when he noticed the faint smile on Senpai's fair cheek, he understood — he hadn't misheard at all.

Senpai had really said that.

"I'm serious, you know."

As if reading his thoughts, Sakurajima Mai added that one sentence — but the curve of her lips lifted even higher, her smile growing all the richer.

Lin Ye was more convinced than ever that Senpai was joking.

"Just now, the person you confessed to wasn't Yukinoshita — it was me. Mm. Me. Whether you accept or reject, only I have the standing to make that call, don't I?"

You're picking a fight with Yukinoshita, aren't you.

And besides, I didn't confess at all — I was talking to Isshiki.

What Lin Ye couldn't figure out, though, was why Sakurajima Mai had suddenly developed this kind of reaction.

Her feelings toward Yukinoshita should have been fairly warm. This wasn't the time for rivalry.

"I'm different from Yukinoshita — I'm planning to accept right now."

Something's not right. This is very not right.

Why was there such a dramatic shift in Senpai's behavior?

Could it be… still because of what happened this morning?

A reasonable explanation came to Lin Ye.

"Whether you accept or whether you reject — I'll do what I need to do. I won't disappoint anyone."

He chose his words carefully and gave his answer.

It was addressed to Sakurajima Mai.

But it could also serve as a reply to Yukino Yukinoshita.

"I see."

Yukino Yukinoshita answered. She figured Lin Ye was probably worried about being rejected by her again.

Even if their relationship had come this far, the fact that she had once rejected him still stood — after a failed confession, many people still feared a second one would fail too.

Lin Ye was probably in that mindset right now.

The more Yukino Yukinoshita thought about it, the more she felt that Lin Ye was actually no different from any other ordinary boy when it came to feelings — still worried, still afraid of failure.

She very much wanted to give Lin Ye the promise: 'I won't reject you.' But when she noticed Iroha Isshiki nearby — an outsider — and the Sobu High students not far off, she hesitated again and again, and the words never came out.

Actions speak louder than words.

She would show her feelings through her actions.

As long as Lin Ye took that step, she would respond.

And after that —

She and Lin Ye would officially be together.

And her first love would begin.

She was a little lost.

Yukino Yukinoshita found her feelings at this moment remarkably complicated — the thought of the new relationship that was about to come into being left her adrift.

"Senpai, Senpai, let's get to school — class starts in ten minutes."

Iroha Isshiki's voice cut through the lingering tension.

She'd had the impression Senpai either genuinely couldn't read the room or was pretending not to, because he'd just said the most mood-killing thing possible.

The best move right now would've been to confess on the spot.

Second best: arrange for a romantic location that afternoon and confess properly.

Confess as soon as possible, make your feelings known, and secure Senpai's heart — that was the smart play.

Not whatever that was — 'whether you accept or reject' — utterly tone-deaf.

Iroha Isshiki sighed inwardly.

She turned and walked toward Sobu High's front gate.

Lin Ye and Iroha Isshiki followed.

Sakurajima Mai trailed silently behind.

She knew that Lin Ye's words had been meant for her.

"You noticed my worry, didn't you?"

That Lin Ye could pick up on this didn't particularly surprise her — he'd always been perceptive, and catching her anxiety and unease wasn't exactly a difficult feat for him.

But connecting the two things together — that was…

Sakurajima Mai questioned her own heart, and she had to admit that Lin Ye's guess had struck something true in her.

She had a thought — that deepening her connection with Lin Ye, making it closer and more profound, might mean Lin Ye wouldn't forget her.

But even her own mother had forgotten her. Could a mere romantic relationship with Lin Ye really make him remember her and not forget?

Sakurajima Mai followed the group and gestured to Lin Ye to head toward the Service Club in Sobu High's club building.

By this point she was fairly well-acquainted with Sobu High.

"Studying here seems like it might not be such a bad thing."

Sakurajima Mai settled into Lin Ye's usual seat in the Service Club and ran her fingertips over the hard, rough wooden desk. She let out a quiet breath.

Lin Ye and Yukino Yukinoshita made their way to Class J's classroom.

Nothing much different from usual.

The teacher arrived one minute early, and as soon as the bell rang, class officially began.

But Lin Ye noticed that the girl seated diagonally forward and to his left had turned her head toward him several times since that morning, sending glances his way.

Completely unlike her usual self.

Something was off.

The first period ended.

Ten-minute break.

Students in Class J gathered in twos and threes, chatting casually.

Lin Ye didn't approach Yukinoshita — the setting wasn't right. Even with something on his mind, he didn't ask. He decided to wait until the noon break to talk to her.

Ding ling ling…

"Class dismissed."

With the teacher's words, the midday break officially began.

After the other students cleared out of the classroom quickly, heading off to their various lunch spots, Lin Ye and Yukino Yukinoshita set out as well.

Today's lunch was once again a meal Yukino Yukinoshita had prepared for him.

The Service Club.

The moment he stepped in, Lin Ye spotted the girl with long black hair already inside.

Sakurajima Mai in a casual black outfit with black stockings was nothing short of alluring — just standing there, she drew the eye effortlessly.

Though the only one who could appreciate that view right now was Lin Ye alone.

Yukino Yukinoshita pulled out a chair and sat down, then slid the bento box across to Lin Ye.

"Yukinoshita — is there something you wanted to ask me?"

Lin Ye asked directly.

"No."

"Really?"

"Why did you say that to Isshiki this morning?"

That was the thing Yukinoshita had on her mind.

"Ah, how do I put it — you were misled by Isshiki."

"What were the exact words?"

Lin Ye repeated the original sentence verbatim.

Only then did Yukino Yukinoshita understand that she'd truly been led astray by Iroha Isshiki.

"Why didn't you clarify on the spot?"

"With Isshiki standing right there — could I have? Telling you now isn't too late either."

It wasn't too late, true — but her mood had already taken a hit.

So the whole thing this morning had been her own wishful thinking.

Not happy. Not happy at all.

"You really are too honest. Not explaining would've been better for you."

Sakurajima Mai offered a blunt critique.

If she were in Lin Ye's position, she would've let the misunderstanding run forever and never said a word to clear it up.

There was absolutely no need for an explanation — unless Lin Ye cared more about her.

But… the odds of that were genuinely slim.

Sakurajima Mai knew full well that Lin Ye had once confessed to Yukinoshita — and right now they were even quasi-fiancés.

She'd teased Lin Ye this morning, but she truly never believed Lin Ye would choose her.

Lin Ye gave a light shrug, making his feelings clear.

Since Yukinoshita had asked, he told the truth. There was no reason to keep the misunderstanding going.

He was pretty certain that the next time Isshiki got a chance to be alone with him, she'd use this to 'leverage' him. He'd wait for it.

"So, Yukinoshita — you don't need to worry about me confessing to you. It's not going to happen. Put your mind completely at ease."

Yukino Yukinoshita: "…"

The girl, whose mood had already been poor, found her mood growing even worse.

The look she directed at Lin Ye carried a distinct chill.

If she could, she'd have liked to say something extremely unladylike right now.

Only Sakurajima Mai nearly burst out laughing at those words.

The only reason she didn't was that she didn't want to lose her composure — even with only Lin Ye there to see it, she didn't want to be caught.

A few seconds later, having composed herself, Sakurajima Mai spoke up. "You definitely did that on purpose."

"You're definitely getting back at Yukinoshita."

"Revenge for when she rejected you back then."

"Petty man."

Lin Ye did not agree.

He had absolutely no such vengeful intentions.

He simply didn't want Yukinoshita to worry, that was all.

"Ah ya hallo~!"

At the Service Club doorway, the pink dumpling appeared with a cheerful greeting.

But the moment she stepped inside, she sensed something was off in the atmosphere.

Yui Yuigahama had a natural sensitivity to atmosphere, and she immediately knew that something had just happened between Lin Ye and Yukinoshita.

What had happened here?

"Um — Yukinon, did something happen?"

"No."

But that decisive tone only strengthened Yui Yuigahama's conviction that her hunch was absolutely correct — something had definitely happened.

The pink dumpling found her own seat and sat down somewhat awkwardly.

She tried to think of how to steer the conversation toward figuring out the reason behind Yukinoshita's unusual mood today.

The three of them began eating their bentos.

The atmosphere at lunch today was unlike usual — a heavy, stifling weight pressing down on it.

Lin Ye ate quickly.

In less than ten minutes he was done.

He tidied up his bento box. "Yukinoshita, I'll leave the rest to you — I need to head out, something came up."

With that, Lin Ye rose from his seat and left the Service Club, with Sakurajima Mai following him out.

"He's gone, Student Lin Ye."

After the Service Club door closed behind Lin Ye, Yui Yuigahama spoke up.

Yukino Yukinoshita didn't answer, and simply used her chopsticks to pick up a piece of tempura from her bento box.

"These past few days, Student Lin Ye's been leaving right after finishing lunch. I wonder what he's been up to."

Yui Yuigahama mused aloud.

This made Yukino Yukinoshita take notice as well.

As Yui Yuigahama had said — this week at lunch, Lin Ye really had been leaving immediately after eating, completely unlike before, when he used to stay until the end of the break.

"He has his own business."

"Doesn't Yukinon know what it is?"

Yui Yuigahama asked curiously.

"He hasn't told me."

"I kind of assumed he'd tell you, Yukinon."

"Why would you think that?"

"Because you two seem so close — Student Lin Ye just says he's leaving and you don't even ask why. That made me think maybe Yukinon already knows the reason."

Ah, so that was it.

"No, I don't know. And it's not club activity time right now — if he wants to leave, there's nothing wrong with that."

Yui Yuigahama nodded as if she understood.

"Just now — did Student Lin Ye upset you, Yukinon?"

"He didn't."

He absolutely did.

Just from that one response alone, Yui Yuigahama was even more certain her guess was right — something had definitely happened.

But how to get Yukinon to open up?

The pink dumpling fretted, completely at a loss for what to do.

...

...

Lin Ye and Sakurajima Mai sat side by side in the same spot.

The girl with long black hair ate her lunch in small, careful bites.

This was their time alone together.

"Senpai — about what you said earlier—"

"I was serious."

One sentence, and Lin Ye's question was blocked completely.

"Senpai…"

"I said I was serious, and you immediately start doubting it. Weren't you always looking to take advantage of me? If you became my boyfriend, you could take advantage of me whenever you wanted."

Her tone was calm, but deep within her eyes, a faint glimmer of shyness flickered.

"Would I be able to see you in a Bunny Girl outfit with black stockings every day?"

Sakurajima Mai: "…"

Just how much do you love the Bunny Girl outfit?

But compared to Yukinoshita, she wearing a Bunny Girl outfit was indeed more captivating.

Yukinoshita's figure really was lacking just a little bit.

"…Fine."

Sakurajima Mai said it through gritted teeth.

"I refuse."

Sakurajima Mai nearly launched herself at him.

This guy was absolutely doing it on purpose.

She made up her mind — she was going to get back at Lin Ye. She would make him pay.

But how?

Sakurajima Mai thought it over, and an idea began to take shape.

Meanwhile, in the distance —

From behind a slightly hidden corner nearby, Iroha Isshiki peered over from afar.

"Just as I thought."

"Senpai is sitting there again, talking to himself — like he's having a conversation with someone."

"Sobu High really does have some kind of mysterious, special presence."

The curiosity inside Iroha Isshiki had been fully ignited.

She resolved that she would absolutely pry the answer out of Senpai's mouth to satisfy her curiosity.

That afternoon —

Class continued.

Lin Ye appeared to be studying diligently.

In reality, he was thinking through how to make the plan to restore Senpai to normal even more successful — how to make it flashy enough to draw maximum attention.

Do what needed to be done, and then top it off with just a little bit of luck.

If it failed — then he'd keep searching for another way.

Lin Ye swept his gaze around the classroom, and suddenly spotted a girl's silhouette appearing at the front door.

Why had Senpai come to the main school building?

What was she trying to do?

...
