Chapter 82 - [H:F.S.T.T.S] [081]

[Chapter 81: Where Legends & Legacies are Forged.]

[Alternative Titles: The Weight of a Wish.

Echoes of a Promise.]

Last Time on Chapter 080 of From Shadows To The Spotlight —

John lingered behind, staring at the latest fax still feeding through the machine — a line graph showing the occupancy rates across the different cinema chains. The red ink line shot upward with impossible confidence.

'You're one crazy gambler, Alex. Looks like this MCU will be worth all this trouble we'll be going through.' He thought to himself as he flicked the switch off, pocketed his pen, and followed the laughter into the night.

Ready to toast his team, his studio, and the unstoppable juggernaut of a film that had their hopes and dreams riding on it.

Now continuing —

~Two Days Later, Monday Morning~

~At Monarch HQ, Masters' Private Study~

The sun pooled through the towering windows of Alex Masters' private study, gilding the modern sanctuary in soft gold. Alex couldn't have hoped for a better morning experience, he was woken up by Monica's talented mouth and loving tongue.

The article he had before made him even happier as he read the headlines and knew about the success of First Swing as his analysts reported future box office figures with the word "billion" thrown around like it was an inevitable outcome.

This was the manifestation of his dream. A sign that the dream he had once shared with Micheal was possible, and not just that, it might just revolutionize the industry and bring about a change none had yet seen coming.

He just hoped he would be able to steer his studio through these troubled waters without compromising on his beliefs. Alex couldn't help but grin as he read the The Hollywood Tribune article before him, Linda had been doing some good work as his person.

------

The headline read —

"Masters' Web of Triumph: Spider-Man is a monstrous swing from the newly launched Marvel Studios backed by Studio MONARCH."

— By Linda Carver, Senior Entertainment Editor, The Hollywood Tribune.

Hollywood's so-called 'dump month' will never be the same. Alex Masters — the young visionary behind MONARCH Studios — has once again silenced his doubters with a record-breaking $151 million launch for Spider-Man: First Swing.

Just months after ruling the summer with Fellowship and John Wick, Masters now dominates September with a fan-favorite blockbuster that critics already call "the new benchmark for superhero storytelling."

And this isn't all, as it broke the record for highest opening weekend box office set by Jurassic Park Lost World by 28 million dollars. Insiders credit MONARCH's powerhouse distribution, newly supercharged by its Lucasfilm acquisition, for giving First Swing a nationwide reach rivaled only by the Big Six.

As one rival studio executive told The Tribune, "You can mock Alex's confidence, but the man isn't someone to be taken lightly."

In this writer's view — speaking not only as a critic but as someone who once questioned Masters' choices — perhaps Hollywood needs more young risk-takers willing to stake everything on heroes worth believing in.

With MONARCH now at the forefront of a new blockbuster era, one thing is clear: Alex Masters isn't messing around—"And if you're going to come for the throne then you better not miss."

Hollywood has been dominated for decades by the Big Six Studios. Is this the push we need to see more healthy competition between the studios trying to make better cinema to outdo each other?

While we the audiences are the ultimate winners in this competition between the Studios and Studio MONARCH as it forces the Big Six to make room for a Seventh.

------

Alex leaned back in his leather chair, the morning quiet except for the rustle of paper and the low hum of the city below. His empty lap had found his it's occupant while he was immersed in reading about Spider-Man's miraculous first week at the Box office.

Monica shifted — a vision of sinful comfort draped in silk, her lush, hourglass figure pressing warmly against him as her fingertips traced lazy circles over his shoulders. "You look happy."

He kissed her on the side and read aloud, his voice steady but unmistakably pleased. "Projected final domestic: 470–510 million. Global tracking shows strong holds overseas. Analysts confident: First Swing likely to become MONARCH's second billion-dollar blockbuster—and Masters' first as director."

Monica giggled against his throat, her breath soft and warm. She straightened just enough to frame his face between her palms, her wide smile radiant with mischief and pride.

"You did it, Alex." she whispered, then crushed her lips to his in a kiss that spoke of her belief and confidence in him. It tasted like the champagne she had before he took her to bed and victory.

He chuckled low in his chest, his free hand slipping down to squeeze the curve of her backside — savoring the soft resistance under his palm as he kneaded her possessively. The final figures for Fellowship flickered in his mind: nine hundred forty million, give or take — a hair shy of the vaunted billion mark, but it was enough to shake an entire industry.

He had done it once before, by proxy, with Jurassic Park. It was a collaboration between Monarch and Universal. But Spider-Man? This was his triumph — directed, fought for, doubted by many, but now the sweet taste of victory in her kiss made it undeniable.

Monica let out a playful gasp when he hoisted her effortlessly, his palm still full of her. Instinctively, her thick thighs wrapped around his waist, locking her to him. She leaned back just enough to meet his eyes, dark hair falling like a curtain around them.

"We've got a few hours before the shoot, boss…" she purred, tracing her finger along his jawline, her smirk daring him to make the most of it.

Alex's grin was pure king and conqueror — quiet, assured, and hungry in more ways than one. "Then we'd better not waste them."

He carried her toward the private bedroom adjoining his study. The heavy door swung shut behind them with a soft click — sealing away the headlines, the numbers, the whispers of billion-dollar glory — leaving only him, Monica, and the reward he intended to claim in full.

~Pacific Coast Highway — Morning~

A sleek black SUV hugged the curves of the winding road along the sunlit California coastline. Inside, the mood was a rare blend of relaxed and electric — like the quiet before the rise of a new storm.

Alex was sitting comfortably in the back seat, with Monica tucked against his side, her sunglasses perched on a face that just couldn't stop beaming. Beside them, Robert Downey Jr. lounging in a crisp casual blazer, his fingers drumming lightly on his knee, eyes twinkled behind the tinted shades.

Robert broke the soft hum of the drive with that unmistakable smirk of his, "Alex, I guess congratulations are in order. You did it again."

"You broke Lost World's record in just two days — the same Lost World they once said you practically gave away when you sold the rights to Universal."

"I still remember the chatter back then—every cigar-chomping exec calling you a blind fool. But now look at you my friend."

Alex laughed, the sound was easy but edged with the kind of steel earned only by surviving every doubter and naysayer. "Thanks, Robert. But you know I can't take all the credit. I'll pass on your kind words to my team — they deserve it more than I do."

Robert raised an eyebrow, tilting his head in surprise. "Won't I be meeting these miracle-workers on set?"

Alex shrugged, a boyish grin tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Not today. I ran them ragged shooting Lord of the Rings and Spider-Man back to back to meet the deadline we had set."

"So I gave them all a vacation and sent them away to take it easy — it was either that or mutiny. But don't worry."

"They'll be back halfway through Iron Man — just in time for the tech, the suits, and my favorite—the fireworks."

"I see…" Robert nodded thoughtfully, stealing a glance at Monica — her skin still glowed, she had the kind of smile that said she spent the morning thoroughly worshipping and being worshipped by her lover.

He smirked again, happy for Alex, but the rogue in him was never far away. "Well, can't blame you for taking a break in paradise. So.. this mansion we're headed to, I heard some chatter that it is a replica of Stark's Malibu Mansion from the comics, is that true?"

Alex chuckled, leaning back into the plush seat as the ocean glittered beyond the window. "Right on the money. Took a year just to get the design feasible — three and a half more to build."

"Well what did it cost you? Could you give me a rough breakdown.." He asked casually as he wanted to get a good idea for what something like this could cost.

"Well the land was $4.5 million. Jeane, the architect, charged me $3.2 mills for the blueprints. The construction itself? That's 18.5 million. Then there is the smart automated system that controls the lights, climate, security, all the bells and whistles—it was another $1.5 million."

Robert let out a low whistle in awe of Alex's wealth. "Damn, sounds like you built the most expensive set in the history of Hollywood. And how much did the décor cost?"

"I gave Monica a five million dollar budget and let her pick half the art. Cost me a fortune."

"Why only half?" Robert asked intrigued, as he knew Alex never did anything for his film without a reason or plan in mind.

Monica was the one to reply, she did so without turning as she kept gazing at the ocean waves. "Stark had to look like a genius billionaire with no taste — just a vault big enough to hide all his bad decisions."

Robert laughed, the sound warm and sharp all at once. "So I take it that it was Pepper who decorated it for me, huh?"

Alex gave him a thumbs up him, grinning. "Bingo. And I let Monica run wild with the art so she could really feel out her version of Pepper."

Monica lifted her shades just enough to show her mischievous eyes. "It was the most fun I've ever had building a character's life. Though I might've gone a little overboard…"

Robert tilted his head back, laughing as the wind picked up outside. He gazed at the waves cresting along the shore, a content spark in his eye. "Well, here's to my new home — and to the next few months living in Stark's shoes. Let's make him legendary."

Alex nods, his hand resting on Monica's thigh — the king and queen of MONARCH rolling toward another crown. "Oh, we will. Believe me — we will. Peter might've been the first, but it all starts with your words."

Robert grinned back. "I am Ironman."

~A Few Hours Later~

The sun had begun its slow descent when the day's filming finally wrapped up. Outside the Stark Malibu Mansion set, the Pacific wind teased the waves into white-crested applause, and golden light spilled through the colossal ceiling-to-floor windows, setting the whole upper room aglow.

Inside, silence reigned, punctuated only by the muted sounds of the crew packing equipment on the lower level that was being used as the set for filming.

Alex Masters stood in front of the windows by his lonesome, hands in his pockets, his posture relaxed and calm but his eyes were distant. He wasn't thinking about the smooth day's shoot — though he was quite pleased that Robert and Monica, seasoned as they were, had needed only six retakes between them.

He wasn't even replaying the crisp banter that had sparked naturally between Tony Stark and Pepper Potts, despite this being their first day portraying these characters on camera.

His mind, instead, replayed a different conversation — one spoken softly in the lobby of a premiere hall, days ago, with a critic whose words lingered like a ghost at his shoulder.

'Was it fate? Or just blind luck' He thought to himself.

A soft click of heels pulled him back. He didn't need to turn to know it was Monica. He felt her presence in the way the air subtly shifted — warm, inviting, a balm to the quiet melancholy that sometimes crept up in his mind catching him off guard.

She came up behind him, slid her hand over his shoulder and brushed a kiss against his cheek before pressing a wine glass into his palm.

"Your poison, monsieur," she teased lightly, her Italian lilt softer now, intimate.

Alex accepted the glass and gave her a grateful smile, the lines at the corners of his eyes easing. "You spoil me, Mon chéri."

"And you spoil me more." She raised her own glass and clinked it gently against his. "To my first day as Pepper Potts."

He chuckled, low and genuine. "How did it feel? Be honest."

She stepped closer to the window, swirling her wine as the sunset's glow bled into the glass. "It felt… natural. Too natural, actually. Sometimes I think you didn't just write Pepper for me — you trained me for her. All these years… it's like slipping into a silk glove."

Alex shrugged, a quiet pride lurking beneath his casual air. "Your trust and faith in my decisions made it easy."

They stood side by side, the ocean stretching before them, its restless murmur mingling with the hush between them. Monica tilted her head, catching the trace of something wistful behind his steady gaze.

"What were you thinking about?" she asked softly.

He took a breath, long enough for the answer to gather behind his eyes. "Do you remember Aymeric calling me out for a meeting after First Swing's premiere?"

"Of course," she said at once. "We were heading to the parking lot when he called you over. What did he want?"

Alex turned the glass in his hand, watching the last rays dance along its rim. "He explained why he missed the press release. He'd flown home for a funeral. His older cousin, it was a drunk driving accident."

Monica's expression softened. She touched his arm.

"And while he was home, he ran into Princess Diana. They'd known each other casually, it seems. She told him something that's been echoing in my head ever since."

Monica frowned slightly, listening.

"She said she'd been in that car too. The doctors and forensics told her it was a miracle she survived, only because she wore her seatbelt in the backseat. And do you know why she did?"

Monica shook her head.

"It's because of a wish I made her promise to keep," Alex said, his voice low. "Back when she came to the London premiere of Star Wars. She'd asked me if she could do anything for me, as a token for the gift she thought the film was. I asked her to never get in a car with a drunk driver.. and to always wear her seatbelt."

For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then Monica set her glass aside and wrapped her arms around his waist from behind, pressing her cheek to his back. "The Lord does work in mysterious ways, Alex."

He covered her hands with his, holding them gently against him. They stood like that until the light outside dimmed into a soft amber.

A knock broke the spell.

"Come in," Alex called.

The door opened and Robert Downey Jr. strode in, a broad, boyish grin lighting up his whole face. He looked every inch Tony Stark off-camera too — charming, irreverent, gleaming with restless energy.

"Well, well," Robert said, arms spread wide. "Boss man and Lady Potts, enjoying the sunset without me?"

Monica laughed, stepping back. Alex turned, smirking. "Robert. How was day one living in Stark's shoes?"

"Glorious," Robert declared, dropping into an armchair like a king returning to his throne. "I can't wait to lean into the Iron Man side. Playboy Tony is fun, but the transformation in his character that I read in the script after he becomes Iron Man? That's gonna be my crown jewel, I can feel it."
