Gerry Villus glanced at the clock; it was 8:10 PM, ten minutes past the small chapel's closing time.
The evening prayer had only reached its halfway point when old Flam from Elder Street urgently came seeking medical assistance. Flam had lost both legs in an accident when he was young, back when Gerry's father was still the street's botanical doctor. His father personally made Flam two wooden prosthetic limbs, which supported Flam through a long journey in life, helping him keep a job and raise his children.
Gerry had helped his father with those legs, and in thirty years, they had never had any major issues, which made Gerry proud. But today, that pride was shaken when the old man was nearly assimilated by the rapidly growing wood of his right leg, turning into nourishment for the prosthetic.
"It's time to get a new one," Gerry advised after dealing with the incident. "Certified prosthetics are safer."
