Annoyance was definitely there. Mayor Wade held the phone, and besides being annoyed, he also felt a tinge of embarrassment.
As if he's some damned evil villain!
"Your Excellency, the governor, I don't know your..."
His words were interrupted by the governor, "No, you do know!"
"I don't care how you and the Deputy Governor plan to deal with this. Whether you kill him or he kills you, that's your business."
"But, Wade, as long as my ass hasn't moved off that damned chair, you all need to respect me!"
"I really don't want to say this; it makes it seem like I'm powerless against you."
"But Wade, you know I'm not powerless against you. I just don't want to get involved. Don't push me, okay?"
"At least on this matter, let it end here."
The insincere smile on Mayor Wade's face gradually faded. This was not the result he wanted, but he knew that whatever he said, as long as he didn't stop, he would definitely be standing against the governor.
