"We can apply a bit more pressure on them..."
The manager looked at him, his eyes somewhat chilling, "Don't you understand the situation, or what? Do you want me to lose my job? Because if I do, you're all out too, got it?"
The man paled at his words and didn't dare to hold back anymore, spilling everything at once.
"The workers' representatives aren't easy to manipulate. If they could be bought, they wouldn't be representatives."
"We need a different approach. Have someone threaten them directly. If they refuse to come work at the docks, harm them or their families."
"I know it sounds underhanded, but..."
The manager suddenly countered, "What's underhanded about it?"
"They've left us no way out. Why should we consider them?"
"So, tell me what's underhanded about it."
Everyone stared at the manager as if seeing him for the first time.
The manager took a deep drag of his cigarette, "I don't know any gangsters, and I doubt some small gangsters can handle this. Any ideas?"
