Being accustomed to coming and going alone, and living at the west end of the village, she seldom interacted with the village women. Naturally, no one disturbed her life, and compared to the hard lives of the common people, her life was much more comfortable.
The bedding she used was all from before. Though a bit tattered, it was very clean. She particularly loved airing her quilt. As soon as the sun came out, she would take her quilt outside to air it, and when she slept at night, the smell of mites mixed with sunshine brought her a kind of perverse pleasure.
Breakfast was simply a bowl of boiled milk with two eggs cracked into the pot; she didn't eat any other staple food.
