Chapter 50 - Chapter 49: Whiskey Peak (I)

As the ship sailed, the season changed to winter and sometimes spring, which complicated things a lot.

After leaving the Twin Capes behind at the foot of Reverse Mountain, the Going Merry headed for Whiskey Peak at a steady pace.

"Alright! He's the man who came from the sky. Mr. Snowman!" Luffy shouted, looking at his masterpiece, which was a snowman with a barrel on its head.

"Ha ha ha," Usopp started to laugh arrogantly. "It's the worst snowman."

"Huh?!" Luffy asked indignantly.

"Behold my majestic work, The Snow Queen!!" Usopp said, showing off a seated snow woman.

"WOW!! HOW COOL! Now you'll see! Snow Punch!"

Luffy slightly pushed the arm of his snowman, sending it flying and crashing directly into Usopp's work, destroying it.

"What are you doing?!" Usopp yelled at him, kicking Luffy's snowman.

"Ahhh, Snowman!" Luffy shouted, watching his snowman get destroyed.

While Usopp and Luffy were having fun with the snow outside, inside the ship the rest were freezing.

"How can they be so calm in this cold?" Nami asked herself, watching Luffy and Usopp having a snowball fight while she was completely bundled up.

"Nami-san! How long do you want me to keep shoveling snow?" Sanji asked, clearing the snow with a shovel.

"Until it stops snowing!" Nami ordered him.

"I will do so!" Sanji replied.

"You guys are exaggerating a lot, it's not cold," Oliver said, exercising.

"And you, stop it already!" Nami yelled at him.

"Why? This way the body stays warm," Oliver told her. 'That and because I don't feel cold. A very good talent'

"Oi, doesn't this ship have heating or something like that?" Mr. 9 asked while covered with a blanket.

"I'm cold," Miss Wednesday said, covered up just like her partner.

"Silence, you are not our guests, so get outside and shovel snow!!" Nami yelled at them just as thunder started to boom. "Thunder?! What kind of weather is this?! Until recently, it was completely clear and hot. It's just like Crocus-san said, here the four seasons pass randomly."

"Something tells me you're underestimating the Grand Line," Mr. 9 said.

"And do you think we're doing fine without steering the helm?" Miss Wednesday asked her.

Nami went outside to check the direction and realized they had drifted off course.

"W-What's wrong?!" Usopp asked, somewhat worried that an attack was happening.

"What's happening, Nami-san?!" Sanji asked.

"It can't be! Turn the ship 180 degrees!!" Nami shouted at them.

"180 degrees?! Why are we turning around?" Usopp asked.

"Did you forget something?" Luffy asked her.

"No, for some reason the ship has turned around and we are moving away from the island! I only took my eyes off the Log Pose for a few seconds, and the sea is so calm!" Nami said, unable to believe what was happening.

"Are you really a navigator?" Miss Wednesday said, mocking her. "This sea is like that; the waves, the wind, the sky. You can't trust any of them, the only thing you can trust is the Log Pose. Do you understand?"

"Shut up and go help the others!" She kicked the 2 bounty hunters to make them go help. "We'll catch the wind from starboard! Turn 180 degrees!"

"She's so violent," Mr. 9 said.

"Usopp, you go to port!" Nami ordered him.

Nami started giving orders to everyone in the crew so they would survive the ever-changing weather of the Grand Line.

Zoro started to wake up from a good nap.

"Wow, what a peaceful nap. Huh?"

He looked at everyone on the floor and at Oliver, who was steering the helm.

"It doesn't seem that complicated to steer," Oliver said.

"But what is everyone doing sleeping with this nice weather? Are we on the right course?" he asked Nami.

Everyone was angry with him as they woke up and heard him ask that.

"What are you two doing on board?" Zoro asked, just realizing they had 2 more.

"AND NOW YOU REALIZE!" Mr. 9 yelled angrily while resting on the floor.

"We're going to their island," Luffy explained.

"We're taking them just like that? We don't owe them anything, do we?" Zoro asked.

"No, definitely not," Luffy replied.

"Mmm. You two seem to be plotting something. What did you say your names were?" Zoro asked, standing in front of them.

"I-I'm called Mr. 9."

"Miss Wednesday."

Both introduced themselves to the swordsman, somewhat nervous.

"Yeah. Mmmm, I think those names..." Zoro said while speaking, making the two of them nervous. "...I had heard them somewhere before, or maybe not...".

"By the way...!!"

Nami punched Zoro in the head.

"Why have you been lying there snoring this whole time?! There was no way to wake you up!" she scolded him angrily.

"WHAT?!!"

Zoro was about to complain when Nami punched him again, even harder, leaving him in pain.

"Guys, don't relax!! We don't know what could happen! I've already realized how dangerous this sea is! And why they call it the Grand Line! Here my navigation skills are useless!" Nami shouted, making sure everyone heard her.

"Oi, are we going to survive?" Usopp asked, somewhat worried.

"Don't worry! Something good is about to happen, and if you want proof, take a look!" Nami said, looking ahead where an island could be seen. "We have finished our first voyage."

"An island! Look at those giant cactuses!" Luffy shouted, seeing the island. "That's Whiskey Peak! Great, we arrived safely!"

"Yeah... cactuses," Oliver said.

At that moment, Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday climbed onto the railing.

"And at this point, we leave you," Mr. 9 said.

"Thank you for bringing us, dears," Miss Wednesday said.

"We will meet again if destiny wills it. Bye Bye, Baby." Both said goodbye to jump into the sea and swim away.

"There they go," Nami said.

"Who were those guys?" Usopp asked, somewhat confused.

"Who cares! We're here now!" Luffy shouted excitedly.

"There's a river over there, let's enter to disembark," Nami told them, spotting a possible landing spot.

"And what if there's a monster or something like that?!" Usopp asked, scared.

"It's possible, since we are in the Grand Line," Sanji told him.

"In that case, we can run away," Luffy told him.

"Not so fast. Don't forget that we have to stay on this island for a while," Nami told him.

"Why?" Luffy asked without knowing.

"We have to let the Log Pose record the magnetic field of the island. Otherwise, we won't be able to go to the next island! And the time needed for that to happen varies on each island! It could be a matter of hours or a matter of days," Nami explained to him.

"But... what if it turns out to be an island full of monsters? Even if we want to leave, we would have to stay for even days?" Usopp asked, hoping they would escape if there's danger.

"That's right," Nami replied firmly.

"We'll worry about that when it happens. Let's go! It would be weird if we didn't take advantage of that river!" Luffy said happily.

"I think only for you," Nami told him.

"Like Luffy said, let's go there, it's useless to think about it," Zoro said.

"I will protect you, Nami-san!" Sanji shouted, ready to protect her.

"If there are monsters, we simply have to defeat them, but most likely there are only people like those bounty hunters," Oliver said.

"Oi, guys, I think I have the I-can't-enter-that-island disease," Usopp said, scared.

"Alright, let's go! But remember, be prepared to run or fight at any moment," Nami reminded them.

As they went deeper, they could only see fog until some voices began to be heard.

"Oi, isn't that a pirate ship?"

"What?! Yes, it sure is!"

"I hear people talking, but I don't see anything with the fog," Luffy said, trying to see.

"People?! But human?!" Usopp asked, scared.

Several noises started to be heard coming from the coast.

The voices were heard louder and louder, so they stayed prepared until they came out of the fog, where the townspeople were welcoming them with open arms, which left the Straw Hats completely confused, since that was weird.

"Welcome to Whiskey Peak!"

"Pirates!! Welcome!"

Everyone was extremely confused by the situation they were in until they reached the shore, where they were welcomed by a strange man with blond hair styled in several curls, wearing an elegant blue suit and holding a saxophone in his hand.

The person started making some strange sounds.

"Ma..ma..maaa! Welcome, my name is Igarappoi. It might surprise you, but this is a town with music and liquor everywhere. We pride ourselves on our hospitality. We have an enormous amount of alcohol. Would you come to the party so you can tell us about your journey? Your adventug. Ahem! Ma...ma...maaa!♪ Adventures and things like that," the strange man said.

"Of course we will!" shouted Luffy, Sanji, and Usopp, who were totally excited.

"Idiots," Nami said upon seeing the behavior of the three.

"They are like that, you have to get used to it," Oliver told her.

"Do you know how long it takes for the Log Pose to adjust on this island?" Nami asked the stranger.

"The Log Pose? Please, forget about that right now and rest from the journey. And now, everyone! Prepare the party! Let's play something for our friends! Let's celebrate!!" the man said, changing the subject to take them to a bar.

And just like that, night fell in Whiskey Peak.
