Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Drug-Induced Truth

The charity gala was a sea of shimmering silk and predatory smiles. Lin Yan moved through the crowd like a glacier, her arm linked with Su Qing's. Under the contract, Su Qing was to be her "exclusive talent"—a high-fashion accessory for the Lin Group's image.

Su Qing wore a backless gown of midnight velvet, her skin glowing like moonlight. But her eyes remained lowered. Every time a wealthy investor or a director from her past looked at her, she felt the phantom itch of their touch.

"Stay close to me," Yan whispered, her hand tightening slightly on Su Qing's. She could feel the girl trembling. "No one here can touch you now. You're mine."

"Yes, President Lin," Su Qing replied, the formal title a shield she used to keep her heart from breaking.

The disaster struck during the toast. A rival businessman, seeking to humiliate the "Ice Queen" by targeting her new favorite, had bribed a server. The champagne Su Qing accepted wasn't just bubbles and sugar; it was laced with a potent, disorienting hallucinogen designed to cause a public scene.

Ten minutes later, the room began to tilt. The gold chandeliers turned into weeping eyes. The laughter of the crowd sounded like the tearing of silk.

"Yan..." Su Qing gasped, her knees buckling.

Lin Yan caught her instantly, her face pale with fury. She didn't care about the cameras or the whispers. She scooped Su Qing into her arms and strode toward the private lounge, her voice a cold lash to her security team. "Find out who did this. Destroy them by morning."

Inside the quiet lounge, the drug took its full hold. Su Qing wasn't in a luxury hotel anymore; she was back in the hotel rooms of her nightmares. She was back in the CEO's office, hearing the "unspoken rules" whispered in her ear.

"No... please," Su Qing sobbed, thrashing against the sofa. "I'll do it... I'll sign... just don't hurt my mother. I'm dirty anyway... what's one more?"

Lin Yan knelt on the floor, pinning Su Qing's hands gently to her chest. "Qing! Look at me! You're safe. It's me. It's Yan."

Su Qing's eyes snapped open, glazed and unfocused. She stared at Yan, and the heartbreak she had suppressed for months finally breached the dam.

"Yan?" she whispered, a tear tracing a path through her makeup. "Why did you come for me? You're so clean. You smell like rain and expensive wood. And I... I smell like everyone who ever bought a piece of me."

"Don't say that," Yan choked out, her own eyes stinging. "You are the only beautiful thing in my life."

"No!" Su Qing cried, her voice cracking. "I love you. I love you so much it's killing me. That's why I can't be with you. I'm a broken toy, Yan. I'm a used thing. If I let you love me, I'll ruin your reputation. I'll make you 'dirty' too. So let me just be your canary. Use me... hurt me... but don't love me. Please, don't love me."

The room went deathly still.

Lin Yan felt as if her heart had been flayed open. The rejection in the hallway—the coldness of the contract—it was all a lie born of Su Qing's agonizing self-hatred. Su Qing didn't hate women; she hated herself.

"You think you can protect me by destroying yourself?" Yan whispered, pulling the sobbing girl into a fierce embrace.

Su Qing buried her face in Yan's neck, her consciousness fading as the drug peaked. "I'm too dirty for your heart," she murmured, her voice drifting into a sleep she hoped she wouldn't wake from. "So let me... just be your toy."

Lin Yan held her until the sun began to peek through the curtains. Her face was set in a mask of tragic resolve. She finally understood. Su Qing would never accept her love as an equal because she felt she had no value left to give.

"If you think you are a tragedy," Yan thought, kissing Su Qing's forehead, "then I will become the ending you deserve. If I cannot have your heart in the light, I will join you in the dark."

"The drug stripped away the lies, leaving only a girl who loved a goddess too much to let her touch the mud."
