Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

Sylvia planned a trip outside the palace, she wanted to roam around. When was the last time that she went out?

She felt giddy as she planned what she would wear or take with her for this trip.

Maria came to her looking very worried, "My Lady, are you sure it's fine to go without the King's permission?"

She looked at her, wanting to put her mind at ease, "How am I supposed to get his permission Maria when he is not here?"

Maria nodded frantically, "Exactly My Lady, you should wait until he comes back, then we can go."

"Wait? Do you know how long it will be until he is back?"

"I'm sure it's not so long, My Lady."

"Maria, this is my only chance to do anything I want. If he comes back, what makes you think he will let me go?"

"You can try to talk to him."

"Maria, I'm Queen, and I don't know what will happen to the King during his trip."

"My Lady!"

"He has been gone for a few nights already and doesn't seem to be coming back anytime soon, They said the war would not let up soon."

"My La............….."

"Maria, you can stay behind."

"I will make the preparations."

"Great, let me go pick out my outfits."

"Outfits? How long do you plan on going for?"

"A couple of nights will do good."

"MY LADY!"

"Fine, just two nights and I will be back."

"One night would be better, My Lady."

"Maria, go prepare."

Sylvia picked out some outfits and waited as preparations commenced. She changed and now in a carriage, she opened the window.

The air filtered in, and they made a stop. She went out and the view was amazing.

"Go set up over there."

"Right away, My Lady."

Sylvia dismissed the workers when they had finished setting up and went to sit on the mat. She grabbed some grapes and popped some in her mouth.

The wind was lovely, the flowers that surrounded her, how she missed this. If she had not married Vernon, she would be free.

Or maybe she would be married to someone who wanted her, that would cherish her not torment her all the time. There were so many what if's and she hated thinking that way as it would just bring more sadness. It was not wise to look at ones past, yet she still grieved for it.

Now he was at war and she wondered, did she want him back. If something happened to Vernon, she would have to take over?

Or would she be banished?

That was bad, as she had been tainted but being banished seemed more appealing to her, at least she could go back to her kingdom, her parents had to understand.

What if she ran away now? Back to her kingdom? Tell them that she couldn't live here anymore?

Yet she couldn't, they would not allow her to, her kingdom was benefitting so much from the alliance.

Vernon covered all the gaps and cracks,

"My Lady! My Lady." Maria came running,

She opened her eyes,

"Maria."

"We have to head back, News has been sent that he has come back."

Sylvia felt a bit faint. "What? How?"

"They are back, My Lad,y and you are not there to greet him."

"What?"

"He has sent for you."

Sylvia got up quickly, and motioned for the servants to come fast, "Pack everything up immediately."

What horrible luck, of all days she decides to leave, he comes back.

"On it." Maria motioned for everyone to prepare, and they were done in no time. Sylvia looked around one last time.

She decided to pluck a flower,

The carriage rattled, she now felt every stone and every mile they passed, reminded her that she was closer to her doom.

It was dark when they arrived, she contemplated what to do.

"I need to bath first."

Maria was shocked at her decision, "My Lady! The King is waiting for you."

Sylvia nodded; she needed to be decent. He would not appreciate her going to him indecent. "And it's better for me to look representable so that he doesn't think I take his presence lightly."

Maria nodded. "Maybe that will appease him. Let me set up everything."

Sylvia sat in the bath, and it did help her aching body, she soaked in it. If she had to face his wrath, this was the last good thing she would do for herself.

She finished getting dressed and didn't feel hungry, it was time.

Sylvia headed to his chambers, and paced a bit. She could do this, Sylvia took a deep breath and knocked on his door, hoping there would be no answer. That he would cool down for the night.

Please be with Celia, the girl knew him very well. Or maybe not, Celia might report her to him in regards to lunch. But she had done nothing wrong.

"Come in."

Vernon sat on his chair, and he looked at her darkly.

"My Queen, I have been waiting for you."
