There was no way to stop it, although Viscount Lancelot didn't intend to stop it either.
This kind of news might well be true, and even if some parts are false, there's always some truth mixed in.
No matter if it's true or false, having heard it, he wouldn't let himself be unprepared.

Lancelot listened, looking thoughtful, "Is there any movement from Hope Town?"
"They didn't try to stop the rumors. In fact, the rumors spread even faster in Hope Town, and the Lord Mansion there urgently convened a meeting!"
Viscount Lancelot paused as he listened, then asked, "Has the mayor of Hope Town returned?"
