Chapter 18 - Restless Days

Four months had passed since their first mission in the Georgia dimension.Fortex Headquarters, once brimming with tension and urgency, now felt quiet—almost dull. Routine meetings, data analysis, and anomaly monitoring had become a never-ending cycle for Furqon and Zafran.

In their workspace, Furqon sat in front of a holographic screen, reviewing statistical data from the Fortex Tower. Zafran, on the other hand, lounged lazily on the couch, boredom etched across his face as he fiddled with a holographic pen.

"Don't you think this is getting a little too monotonous?" Zafran asked, breaking the silence.

Furqon glanced up briefly. "Extremely monotonous. Feels like we're just observers now, not actors."

Zafran let out a long sigh and leaned his head back against the couch. "We need a new challenge—something to get our blood pumping again. What's the point of being part of Fortex if this is all we do?"

Furqon gave a small smile. "A new challenge? What, you think we should propose an interdimensional exploration mission? We could chart unknown territories, see what's really out there."

Zafran chuckled. "Sounds cool, but if we actually proposed that, I'm pretty sure the Liaison Council would think we've lost our minds."

Furqon laughed too. "You're probably right. They'd reject the idea immediately unless we had some solid justification. And I doubt we have the supporting data to convince them."

Zafran grinned. "Still, just imagine it. Jumping from one dimension to another, discovering new phenomena, being the first team to explore places no one's ever seen. That would definitely beat sitting here staring at the same old data every day."

Furqon shook his head, smiling. "It does sound fun. But unfortunately, we're not here to have fun. We're here to maintain dimensional stability."

Both of them chuckled, realizing the conversation was just a lighthearted way to fend off their boredom. Still, even if the idea was far-fetched, it gave them a momentary escape from the monotony.

"We really need something to shake things up," Zafran said at last. "If no new challenge comes, I'm afraid we'll get too comfortable—and lose our edge."

"Agreed," Furqon replied. "But for now, maybe we just need to find other ways to make our days a bit more interesting. If a new mission comes, we'll be ready."

They returned to their tasks, but a faint smile remained on their faces. Though the atmosphere at headquarters felt stagnant, their simple conversation reminded them that hope for a new adventure still lingered.
