Chapter 23 - Chapter 23

"Hi guys. How was it?" Bryan asked as the four people who wanted to fight against the dragon dropped to the ground.

They glared at him before a smile broke out on one of their faces and she presented a card to him and opened her mouth to speak.

"We don't have time for that. I can set aside your actions for later but I assume that you have some sort of plan to stop this thing." A boy with dark green colored hair said in a cold tone as arcs of electricity cackled around him.

"…" he couldn't hear what he said, but the white-haired boy seemed to agree with him.

"in that case, there is no time to explain. All we need to do is draw its attention." Bryan grinned inwardly at the way they cooperated so nicely and he pointed at Lucy.

"She's going to handle defense. I'll support her. You feel free to fight however you want." The four of them had their beasts distracting the dragon so he was unable to tell most of their attributes.

"My name is Charlotte! This gloomy girl is Leila. That gloomy guy is Marcus and that guy is Matthew." Charlotte, a girl with short brown hair and a permanent business smile plastered on her face said as she slapped the back of the girl next to her.

"Kane is going to sue my ass if we don't back him up so can we go like, right now?" she jumped up as metal platforms appeared under her feet and she used them as platforms to leap into the air.

"Sue?" Bryan was curious as to the exact relationship between her and her beast but seeing the others leave made him call for Carl hurriedly.

"Need a ride?" He asked and she shook her head and took a step into the air. On command, the earth rose up and held her feet and she continued until she was in the air.

"Carl?" Bryan patted the lizard and it expanded until he was able to ride it.

"I've always wanted to do this ever since I watched that anime." He closed his eyes and increased his connection with Carl to the max.

'Four feet should be enough to keep us balanced.' For a moment, he considered using his legs too but it would have been awkward.

Using fire to propel the body. He had this idea for a while but there was no need to implement it. And if there was time to train with something that would have been useless, then he had time to do proper training.

'Carl's on the brink of evolution.' He may have had his ether repeatedly drained but the fighting had pushed him to evolve. Bryan had a plan to use the dragon to achieve this.

"Beast Skill – Fire Breath." The fastest way to draw the dragon's attention was to use the ability that wounded its eye.

White light flashed as the attack went up the beast's nostrils and it breathed fire in pain and anguish.

….

"I want to join in too." Meng said with envy as he looked at the people battling the dragon. Still, he had a mission.

One of the things that made Meng respect Bryan was his vision. Even in a situation that seemed hopeless, he could always find a way forward.

Besides, his plan had Meng as the main star. There was no way he was going to give it up for anything.

'Still, this damn lizard is huge.' Meng had been advancing in a way that wouldn't draw attention but even so, he was just barely at the middle of its back.

Part of the reason was that the dragon was constantly on the move as it was fighting. Another reason was that Dola was suddenly struck by a bout of laziness and reduced her pace to a snail's crawl.

"Hey, stupid bird. Hurry up." He urged her but Dola just squawked and nipped his leg.

"…I'm turning you to fried chicken once this is over." He was only half joking… and a hundred percent serious. Still, the two of them continued without being noticed by anyone.

Bryan landed on the dragon's head and placed his hands together as a ball of fire formed in his palms and he slammed it down, causing the beast to quake.

"There's still more!" he yelled as Carl scrambled up the dragon's throat and furiously dug into the dragon's scales with his teeth.

"Rrrgghhh!" the dragon growled as it directed its attention to Carl but two streaks of lightning raced into his face, punching it with force strong enough to shatter boulders into fine powder.

'We need to bring it down.' After fighting for a while, Bryan was well aware of the difficulties in fighting a titan. It was just too big. Half of the energy they had used in this fight was just wasted on getting to the dragon's head.

'after fighting with them, I have a good grasp on their elements.' Kane, Charlotte's beast specialized in the metal element. Bee, Matthew's beast was of the lightning element. Kaz, Marcus's beast was of the wind element. The only one he didn't know was Leila's.

'I haven't even seen her beast. Is it small?' Bryan took another look at the surroundings but the only thing he saw was two beasts and three humans.

'…unless her beast isn't a physical type.' No matter how much the beast seemed to deviate from common sense, it was still just an evolution of what already existed. But, like everything, there were exceptions.

"I really want to see it." Bryan muttered in envy and looked at Carl and sighed. 'He's a dragon but why do I feel like the tamed beast of others seem to be way cooler than him.'

Bryan knew how special Carl was. It wasn't every day you found a beast that could jump three levels in three months. But it was all about the aura for Bryan.

Just as he was lost in thoughts, he felt the temperature heat up and he somersaulted just as a spear of fire slammed into the spot he was standing. Instantly, Bryan's mentality shifted.

'It's already found a way to counter us.'
