Benecio let out a loud laugh as he slapped the back of my shoulder nearly knocking me over if I didn't hold onto the door frame. "That was the old me. This is the new me."
"You're only saying that because your parents grounded you," I smiled, "therefore I beg to differ."
His bright eyes looked into mine intensely and for a second I started to doubt if it was wise being in a room with him alone. Everyone was downstairs having fun therefore they wouldn't even hear me scream.
"Look, I'm trying here. This isn't easy for me too but I think it'll be good for me to leave that ugly side of me alone," he shrugged, "I meant it when I said I want to try to be friends. I let external factors make me a jerk and that's not me. I won't feel right if you still think I hurt you on purpose."
