Haori is currently facing the Sage of Six Paths, but in terms of power, he is naturally incomparable to the Sage in his prime a thousand years ago when he was the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki. The Sage now is merely a remnant of chakra.
As for being the "weakest" Six Paths, a "remnant of a remnant," there are reasons for this-compared not only to a thousand years ago but even to the time when the Sage granted Naruto and Sasuke the yin-yang powers, the current Sage is weaker.
This is mainly because, over the past thousand or even several thousand years, the Sage has been carrying out a great mission. Since his mother Kaguya is immortal, to prevent her from breaking free of her seal or any signs of that happening, the Sage's chakra has been constantly monitoring the entire ninja world. To do this, he needed to disperse a large portion of his chakra throughout the world.
Haori's sudden appearance without prior notice meant the Sage didn't have time to gather all his chakra back. Even so, he remains incredibly powerful-dead for a thousand years, yet the Sage still dominates the world.
Didn't you see how just by casually adding a buff, he made two Genin ridiculously strong?
Frankly, while other ninja struggle to stack energy and cheat, the Sage had already globalized his chakra layout. Even weakened to this extent, no one dares to challenge him.
Regarding the Sage's world surveillance, his next words confirmed this clearly:
"Young ninja, what is the purpose behind your previous actions and your appearance before me now?"
The Sage did not correct Haori's assertion that he was merely chakra, because he truly was.
"Previous actions?"
But Haori heard something else in his words.
"You killed the Three-Tails and the Seven-Tails..."
At this moment, the Sage seemed to say: no matter what you've done or how you died, I've been watching. The Sage is truly the one with the "Haori Network"... constantly monitoring the ninja world. Though he cannot watch everything, the Tailed Beasts are his primary focus, because any disturbance involving them affects the entire world.
"Let's put aside the Three-Tails for now-though Isobu was killed, it is already in the process of resurrection. The problem is the Seven-Tails... I don't know what method you used, but it cannot be resurrected in the short term."
As for the possibility of it never resurrecting, even the Sage cannot judge. He has never encountered the Seven-Tails' current state before; it is all unknown.
What happened to the Seven-Tails? Why can it not be resurrected? Even the Sage, most familiar with the Tailed Beasts, is completely baffled.
"Is the Seven-Tails completely dead?" Haori hurriedly asked, confirming the "feeling" he had during their battle had been correct.
He was a bit excited but kept a calm expression.
The Sage shook his head, "The Seven-Tails' inability to resurrect does not mean it is dead; rather, its chakra cannot gather. Its vast chakra has been dispersed throughout the world."
So it's mixed with the Sage's chakra-you in me, me in you? Quite gentlemanly.
"Chakra is a composite of spiritual and physical energy. Normally, chakra generated by a ninja dissipates quickly after leaving the body, but Tailed Beasts are different. Even dispersed, their chakra does not vanish immediately; instead, it remains for a long time."
After all, the level of power is different; Tailed Beast chakra is more fundamental. This does not mean it never disappears, but if it does, it takes a very long time.
Just like the current Sage-his chakra has also been preserved.
Half of chakra's energy is "spiritual," which explains why the Sage's chakra appears with his image and will. Being number one, for certain reasons or self-processing, as long as a certain amount of chakra gathers, the spirit within forms thought and will. In fact, except for lacking a body and metabolism, the current Sage is not much different from when he was alive.
It's somewhat like a clone but completely different, because any clone disappears when attacked.
"Your actions may be aimed at completely eliminating the Tailed Beasts, but removing only their will while leaving their chakra will cause great instability," the Sage said.
Many have tried to kill the Tailed Beasts over the years; even he himself initially fought the Ten-Tails. But these attempts taught him one truth: Tailed Beasts cannot die, only be sealed.
Haori's method, though it hasn't caused serious incidents yet, worries the Sage. He fears that the Tailed Beast chakra, without unified will, might autonomously return to the Outer Path Gedo Statue, potentially causing his mother's resurrection.
This is not something he can take lightly.
"So, your goal is to continue erasing the Tailed Beasts?" If so, that opposes the Sage's stance.
Haori nodded. "Not only that... I have other purposes here."
The Sage was once a true savior, but that was a thousand years ago. Why does he still cling to the present world?
The idea of being born a savior has strong religious overtones. Legend says Kaguya's two sons were born from "everyone's blessings," not from some man's wrongdoing... Let's just accept that for now.
"What is this purpose?"
Haori's face grew serious. "Whether the world is destroyed or continues to exist, that is for the living to worry about. It has long ceased to concern you who lived a thousand years ago..."
Thinking of all this, the various troubles in the ninja world are caused by Haori's descendants. It's infuriating-games are already unbalanced, yet how can you play? One-time pay-to-win is absurd enough, but some get endless benefits and their descendants become all-powerful.
So the Sage's mother didn't eat the chakra fruit-it was obviously the Golden Fertilizer fruit.
What Haori wants to do can be considered "official business," or one of his life goals.
Even Haori needs a big goal, maybe even collecting a menu... His mission is to erase the Sage of Six Paths' control and influence over the world-a world founded by one Haori, to be undone by another Haori, leaving only the word "wonderful." Isn't that interesting?
Thinking this, Haori felt much grander. He was quite generous to the Sage-just a namesake, yet helping the Ōtsutsuki family clean up their mess.
"Assuming a person's maximum lifespan is 100 years, no matter how strong, they can only control the world for a century. Their actions may influence the world for thousands of years, which is fine, but it's abnormal for someone to live 100 years and still control the world for thousands after death."
Haori said to the Sage... Saying "control" might be too much, but this world is really the Ōtsutsuki family's mess. Everything else and everyone else is just a backdrop.
Is this normal? Is this right?
"This abnormality in the ninja world is undoubtedly caused by the Ōtsutsuki who founded the Shinobi religion..."
"So... you ask why I appeared here today?"
"I came to erase."
Hearing Haori's words, the Sage was shocked, not quite understanding Haori's logic.
His expression said: The entire Shinobi religion was founded by me, the Sage. You're playing with my system but talk about trying to kill me so confidently-what kind of logic is that? Is this really okay?
Haori blinked, meaning: So what? It's perfectly normal.
The Sage paused, then said, "Chakra is generated from body and spirit, destined to end. In my current state, to completely erase me, you must eliminate the body as well. Though I don't know what you did to the Seven-Tails, even if you have special abilities, since my body no longer exists, it's impossible to completely erase my chakra."
Bad news, but Haori's eyes brightened instantly.
Hey, this kind of info shouldn't be told to this guy!
"So, at most, I can erase your consciousness, making your chakra unable to gather like the Seven-Tails', then... slowly dissipate?" Haori said.
Haori's direct approach to erasing chakra is difficult, but with the principle that things destroyed by direct death don't recover, breaking the chakra aggregation is not hard-just like with the Seven-Tails.
Previously, Haori's feelings toward the Ōtsutsuki were pure hatred, but after this brief exchange with the Sage, that hatred vanished...
Mainly because the Sage was too honest, saying exactly what he thought, disdainful of lies, which made Haori unable to dislike him.
But what must be done will be done. His will would not waver. This is not about good or evil or personal feelings, but a matter of stance.
So... Haori chose to draw his sword.
"Unfortunately... for now, I cannot disappear," the Sage said, because it seems Kaguya's pawns are still active in this world, and to always protect the ninja world, the Sage must continue to exist.
So Haori had one last thing to say:
"Putting aside values and universal views, my motive can be explained in one sentence..."
"If death does not exist, life is meaningless; there is no place for the deceased in this world."
Is the Sage dead? Yes. But in a sense, it's as if he never died. So Haori intends to try killing him again.
