Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Before

Arymyr was jumped by fifteen males while walking home late at night from the shop Opal Lee owned.

Arymyr paused, momentarily caught off guard by the scent of sweet cedar wood mixed with the sea, as if whomever she was smelling spent their days near or on the water, in a boat or in tree boughs. The scent smelled heavenly, as if the Great Mother had crafted it just for her, which is why it took her by surprise to see these fifteen males appear around her with that scent so close by. The scent was not on her assailants though. No, it was off to the side, as if watching, observing the scene closely, as if not to miss any minute detail.

Arymyr had smelled that particular scent numerous times while she traversed from Opal's shop and to her home in the sea with her mother and one of her brothers. It would linger around Opal's shop, and she would even occasionally scent it near her father's grove where her eldest brother and father often stayed, training.

The males that assaulted her knocked her to her knees, but she quickly recovered, shaking her head at the scent as it teased her senses, beckoning to her, threatening to bring her to her knees once more. No, she will not allow the tantalizing scent to trick her into submission, she will fight! Flicking her tail to the left and right, poisonous shards shooting off and towards two assailants, she waited patiently.

Perks of being half of the sea and half of the forest, her tail barbs, while soft, are deeply poisonous and can paralyze in an instant, potentially killing the targets if they were weak to begin with, as it did with the two assailants who were pricked by the deadly barbs, slowly falling to their knees as the barbs released their poisonous bite into their flesh, sinking into their bloodstreams as it races to their now weakly beating hearts. Arymyr frowned slightly listening to their heart beats as she realized that her barbs would indeed not kill those two particular assailants, but smiled nonetheless with the knowledge that they would not be getting back up anytime soon.

Arymyr flicked her ears, keeping close eyes on those around her as she contemplated what their next move would be. Downfall of her barbs, she can only use a few at a time before they are rendered useless for hours. They need time to regenerate the amount of poison each tip requires to be lethal. As one, the remaining thirteen males charged her, giving her barely enough time to whip out two daggers, blades pressed delicately against her arms, waiting, itching, to sink deep into her preys' flesh. Spinning slowly, and lowly, one leg out to balance her descending spin as her blades lashed out, slicing three thighs deeply, to the bone.

Grunting, the three assailants whose thighs were sliced, fell to the ground, their legs going limp as the poison on her blades sunk deep, paralyzing their legs. Five down, ten to go, she hummed with narrowed eyes, slashing her blades up as two more approached from either side, barely nicking their flesh on their torsos as they leapt out of the way, bringing their own blades down swiftly towards Arymyr, slicing her shoulders in the process as she ducked out of the way of the blades, curious about the type of poison they use. The paralysis poison wore off on the first three that had gone down by her blade, though halting, they slowly walked towards Arymyr, eyeing her closely as four more approached, all keeping a wary eye on her tail. Arymyr pounced on one closest to her, hitting him in the nose with the hilt of her blade while bringing her knee up to kick him in the chest, swiping her blade at another assailant.

Flicking her tail, she locked down another assailant's blade arm, preventing him from making a direct blow to her back that would have taken her down. Twisting slightly, she glowered at the assailant caught by her tail, narrowing her eyes as her blade rung out, hitting the blade of another assailant, trying to maintain a constant dance so she would not be caught by their blades again. It seems the poison they use is also one of paralysis, mixed with something else as her arms continued to slow due to the cuts on her shoulders. The scales running along her skin kept the blades from sinking too deep, but damn they were sharp. Much like her own.

Arymyr smiled ruefully as she jumped towards two more males, momentarily forgetting about the one she had captured with her tail. Without warning, her tail was suddenly wrapped in a thick leaf, preventing any further barbs to fly out, but also, preventing her from moving it as her tail was suddenly yanked to the ground, causing a surprised huff to escape her lips as she was yanked to the ground by her tail. Hissing, Arymyr twisted, attempting to drive a dagger into her assailant's neck, just for him to dodge while three others attacked from the front. Baring her teeth, Arymyr turned her blades towards her attackers, successfully swiping two across the chest, just for three more to jump in their place.

She continued to fight, albeit strained due to her tail being held down, until they had her completely pinned, snapping thick cuffs to each of her limbs, and ensnaring her tail in a metal sleeve over the leaf that bound it. Straining against the restraints, Arymyr hissed at her captors, attempting to lunge at each of them after they took her daggers, when her ears tilted, hearing the scuff of paws on the ground approaching them. Still snarling, Arymyr crouched in a fighting stance, as best she could with the restraints pinning her, waiting to see who was going to approach, slight dread welling in her chest as she placed the sweet and salty scent she craved, to the one approaching.

Still partially covered in shadows, her potential mate looked down at her, a small smile gracing his lips, peeling back slightly to show his sharp, dagger-like teeth. She let out a low growl, narrowing her eyes at him as she realized that he was the one to set this up. "Too scared to face me yourself, Cat?" she hissed out angrily, feeling her captors yank harshly on her, forcing her down as her potential mate latches a heavy collar around her neck, jerking it to make impact on her throat, eliciting a cough from her. Bending down, the male cheshire grins as he whispers in Arymyr's ear, "I will make you mine, as you are supposed to be, and you will bend to my will, Little One." Hissing, Arymyr stands as her captors' yank on her restraints, jerking her towards a dark alcove that hid a tunnel system under the trees.

At the age of eighteen, Arymyr is still a small kit, barely out of the water to start training on land with her father. She is thankful she had been allowed on land to train occasionally with her father and play with her eldest brother, otherwise this fight would have been a lot more challenging, and ended a lot sooner as she still has not completely mastered switching forms to remove her gills while on land. The only reason she was even out tonight was because Opal needed someone to model her latest ideas in both fur and scales.

Breathing hard now, her gills fanning on her sides and neck, Arymyr stumbles along with her captors, growling and hissing at them as they drag her through the tunnel system before they blindfold her, her mate trailing his long fingers and claws along one set of gills on her neck, growling lowly with an almost imperceptible sniff of disgust. In a deep voice, Arymyr hears her potential mate mutter to one of the men to run ahead and get a vat of water that could hold her, ready.

He is not wanting her dead, that much is clear, but, if they put her in fresh water, he will do just that. Arymyr fights once more, having felt her captors' grips on her loosen due to her lack of movement, thinking she had finally just given up and accepted her fate. Just as quickly as she began to fight, she felt two claws slip under one of the gills on her neck as a low growl was emitted next to her, she could feel the vibrations of his growl through her body, she could feel and hear the threat clearly, before she lost all sense, she completely stopped moving, not daring enough to risk one of her gills being ripped. If they were damaged at all, she would lose a lot of the ability she has to be on land as she is now.

At first, Arymyr could not help but wonder if this was some sort of Assassin initiation that her father and mother neglected to warn her about, but as she thought about it, she recalled occasionally smelling her mate nearby on different occasions, but the scent was always so faint she never thought too much about it, that is until she smelled it again, stronger than anytime before, when her attackers decided to show up tonight. She would normally just continue on with her hand-to-hand combat training as well as the stealth training she's been partaking in since she could swim on her own, only occasionally asking her family if they smelt it as well, their responses were always the same, saying no to some varying degree every time she would mention it.

No, her parents would have told her about this if this were some sort of initiation, with that in mind, Arymyr did her best to use her senses to determine where they were. They still had not left the tunnel system but had taken eight turns since entering them. She wondered if they were still near the shore at this rate.
