Chapter 401 - Chapter 401: The Eternal Douluo!

After Jing Shaoyu instantly killed two Titled Douluo with a single strike, the battle quickly became completely one-sided.

Led by Wu Siduo, Ye Xinglan, and others, the remaining Evil Soul Masters were completely annihilated—not a single one escaped. After eliminating two Titled Douluo and three Soul Douluo, Jing Shaoyu ceased further attacks and instead cast a Soul Skill to heal all injured passengers.

The wounded basked in the warm green light, their eyes filled with gratitude. One by one, they bowed deeply toward Jing Shaoyu hovering in the sky, paying their respects.

Yet Jing Shaoyu paid little attention to this. Healing these people was merely a trivial effort for him. What occupied his thoughts now was whether to test the effects of his eighth Soul Skill—this was the perfect opportunity.

Though the exact number of casualties remained unclear, the sheer number of injured provided some indication. This had been a fully packed Soul Guidance Train, carrying nearly a thousand passengers. Given the high-speed derailment, the casualty rate couldn't possibly have been low.

After careful consideration, Jing Shaoyu ultimately decided to use his Soul Skill to resurrect the deceased passengers.

As the saying goes, saving a life is more meritorious than building a seven-story pagoda. Though he had no need for faith to bolster his Divine Throne or forge a golden body, saving lives and altering the course of fate would greatly aid his comprehension of the Planet Spirit's teachings.

Under the awestruck gazes of the passengers, six orange-gold and three radiant-gold Soul Rings emerged beneath Jing Shaoyu. One of the radiant-gold rings shone particularly brilliantly as faint mist gathered from all directions. A graceful feminine figure, towering dozens of meters tall, appeared behind him, her features veiled in mystery.

At the sight of this figure, the passengers instinctively adopted expressions of devout reverence, as though beholding their own parents. The figure slowly spread her arms, and in an instant, gentle green light radiated from her, enveloping the entire area.

Amid the haze, a soft voice seemed to chant a mysterious melody, like a mother's call, bringing tears to many eyes.

Mercy of the Goddess of Life!

One by one, the passengers who had perished in the attack were revived under the green light's influence. Those who had lost companions, family, or friends shifted from grief to joy, their cries and laughter mingling in overwhelming emotion.

Just as Wu Siduo eliminated the last Evil Soul Master, the Federation's reinforcements finally arrived—fashionably late.

At their head was a powerhouse clad in Three-Word Battle Armor. His entire body was encased in silver-white armor, his face hidden behind a mask, making his identity impossible to discern. The only certainty was his gender—a male Soul Douluo.

"Hm?" He let out a sound of surprise before spotting Jing Shaoyu. Immediately, he flew over respectfully and called out, "Luo Shaofeng, Reserve War God of the Federation's War God Hall, greets the senior! May I ask for your esteemed title? Please forgive my ignorance!"

Luo Shaofeng spoke as he withdrew his Three-Word Battle Armor, revealing his true appearance—a handsome middle-aged man in his thirties or forties, with short blue hair that accentuated his sharp features and bright, piercing eyes.

He showed no trace of disrespect despite Jing Shaoyu's youthful appearance. Having reached his level of cultivation, Luo Shaofeng had encountered more Titled Douluo than he could count on one hand, so he was no stranger to the eccentric habit of these venerable seniors disguising themselves as youngsters.

What Luo Shaofeng couldn't possibly imagine was that Jing Shaoyu wasn't some ancient monster pretending to be young—he was genuinely youthful.

Seeing Luo Shaofeng's respectful demeanor, Jing Shaoyu accepted it without hesitation. "Ignorance is no crime," he said. "I've only recently been promoted to Titled Douluo and haven't yet decided on my title."

"I see," Luo Shaofeng replied, his expression clearing with understanding before being overtaken by intense envy. As a Soul Douluo, he knew all too well the difficulty of breaking through from Soul Douluo to Titled Douluo. "Then I shall address you as Your Excellency for now."

"That will do," Jing Shaoyu nodded before shifting the topic, gesturing to the accident scene below. "I'll leave this place to you."

"Yes, sir!" Luo Shaofeng immediately responded, then turned and waved behind him. "Rescue the injured!"

Instantly, bright lights illuminated the distance as numerous mechas descended from the sky. Alongside combat models were several teams of medical rescue mechas, which transformed into small aid platforms upon landing. A flood of federal medical personnel emerged and began tending to the wounded.

Then came the awkward moment.

"Report—no casualties!" came repeated announcements from the medical teams.

"How can there be no casualties? Unless..." Luo Shaofeng froze momentarily before his face darkened with horror. Even a brief glance earlier had confirmed the severity of the accident—sixteen train cars nearly all overturned, half of them severed at the waist. For such a disaster to have no wounded could only mean...

He couldn't bear to finish the thought, overwhelmed by self-reproach and burning hatred toward the Evil Soul Masters.

Noticing Luo Shaofeng's grief and fury, Jing Shaoyu found it amusing. "There's no need for such guilt or sorrow," he said. "As the medics reported, there truly are no casualties."

"Your Excellency, this..." Luo Shaofeng looked at Jing Shaoyu in utter confusion. "Please enlighten me!"

"Because I'm a healing-type Soul Master. It's that simple," Jing Shaoyu replied with a smile.

"Your Excellency is a healing-type Soul Master?!" Luo Shaofeng's eyes widened in shock, his voice stiff with disbelief.

The subsequent proceedings were straightforward. The War God Hall and federal officials took over the handling and arrangements for the attack, while Jing Shaoyu and his five companions prepared to continue their journey.

"Your Excellency," Luo Shaofeng said respectfully, "might I ask for your name so I may report your merits to headquarters?"

"Hahaha~" The five women beside Jing Shaoyu couldn't help but smile at hearing a middle-aged man refer to himself as "junior" before Jing Shaoyu, with Xu Xiaoyan even bursting into laughter.

Luo Shaofeng felt somewhat uncomfortable seeing this situation. Although these women seemed to have a close relationship with His Excellency, he was, after all, a Soul Douluo, while they were merely Soul Saints. How could they be so disrespectful?

Out of respect for Jing Shaoyu, Luo Shaofeng suppressed his displeasure, though his eyes darkened slightly.

"My name is Jing Shaoyu," Jing Shaoyu said, patting Xu Xiaoyan's shoulder to signal her to stop laughing so unrestrainedly, while addressing Luo Shaofeng.

"Jing Shaoyu!" Luo Shaofeng muttered the name to himself, his expression shifting strangely until it finally settled into one of delighted realization. "Jing Shaoyu from Shrek Academy? Jing Shaoyu of the Shrek Seven Monsters?"

"If Shrek Academy hasn't selected a new generation of the Shrek Seven Monsters, then that would be me," Jing Shaoyu replied with a smile, looking at Luo Shaofeng with mild surprise. "I didn't realize my reputation had grown so much."

"Luo Shaofeng, graduate of Shrek Academy Inner Court, greets the Dean!" Luo Shaofeng stood ramrod straight as he shouted this.

Jing Shaoyu immediately understood why Luo Shaofeng had reacted with such shock and excitement upon hearing his name—he was also a graduate of Shrek Academy.

"So you're my senior!" Jing Shaoyu's tone grew warmer. "No need for such formality. By enrollment time, you're my senior, and I'm your junior."

Seeing that Luo Shaofeng was a Shrek Academy graduate and her senior, Xu Xiaoyan reined in her earlier mirth, replacing it with a more amiable smile. Since they were all from Shrek Academy, they were practically classmates, and classmates ought to get along well.

Despite Luo Shaofeng's outwardly stern demeanor, his mind was in turmoil, utterly unable to calm down.

Though he hadn't attended the meeting Shrek Academy referred to as the "Pillar of Heaven Pact" a year ago, he had heard the details from a fortunate classmate who had. He remembered clearly—His Excellency, the Pillar of Heaven Douluo, had passed the positions of Pavilion Master and Dean to his disciple, Jing Shaoyu, the leader of the current Shrek Seven Monsters. From then on, Jing Shaoyu's name had resounded throughout the entire Shrek community.

Luo Shaofeng recalled his classmate mentioning that Jing Shaoyu, though only eighteen at the time, was already a 79th-ranked Soul Saint. Within a decade, he would undoubtedly become a Titled Douluo, possibly even a Super Douluo. Back then, Luo Shaofeng had marveled at the terrifying potential of such genius.

Yet, barely a year later, Jing Shaoyu had already reached Titled Douluo status. It seemed almost like a joke!

Luo Shaofeng was thoroughly awed. His Excellency, the Pillar of Heaven Douluo, was already a genius among geniuses, yet his disciple turned out to be even more monstrous. Truly, a great master breeds outstanding disciples.

Jing Shaoyu politely declined Luo Shaofeng's invitation to host a banquet in their honor and boarded a train bound for Shrek City at the nearest station.

This time, the journey proceeded smoothly without any further mishaps. Had they encountered Evil Soul Masters again, Jing Shaoyu might have suspected some old schemer was behind it. Fortunately, they arrived at Shrek City by dusk the following day and returned to Shrek Academy.

A year had passed, and Shrek Academy had undergone quite significant changes. The most noticeable was the expansion of the academy grounds. The enlargement of the Inner Academy had necessitated the Outer Academy to expand outward as well. Before Jing Shaoyu and the other five had left, the Outer Academy expansion had merely been a proposal on paper. By the time they returned, it had already been perfectly realized on the land.

At the same time, Shrek Academy had also emerged from the shadow of the God-Slaying Soul Missile explosion. The once quiet and desolate Outer Academy had regained its liveliness, with a noticeable increase in the number of Outer Academy disciples, primarily due to the influx of new faces—first-year students of the current term.

The return of Jing Shaoyu and his companions didn't cause much of a stir in the Outer Academy, as they kept a low profile and quickly made their way from the Outer Academy back to the Inner Academy, returning to Golden Island.

Inside the God of Battle Pavilion, Ya Li, who was handling academy affairs, suddenly raised her head with a trace of confusion on her face. She sensed a familiar yet unfamiliar aura approaching the pavilion—both the familiarity and unfamiliarity were intense. She couldn't recall any Titled Douluo in her memory who matched this presence.

Could it be that an Inner Academy disciple had broken through? she wondered. Lan Muzi? Tang Yinmeng?

No!

Ya Li's eyes suddenly widened, and her face lit up with joy. This aura—it was A'Yu!

She abruptly stood up and hurried outside the pavilion. As she stepped out, Long Yeyue's low shout rang in her ears.

"Who dares to cause trouble at Shrek Academy?"

As the words fell, Ya Li saw several figures flying out from the wooden cottages surrounding the God of Battle Pavilion, encircling the newcomer.

"Elder Long, has it only been a year since we last met, and you've already forgotten us?" the newcomer teased with a laugh.

Long Yeyue stared at the person below in shock, even rubbing her eyes in disbelief before exclaiming, "Good heavens! Jing Shaoyu, you've actually become a Titled Douluo?! How old are you?"

Cai Yue'er, Zhuo Shi, Feng Wuyu, and the other Elders who had emerged alongside Long Yeyue wore similarly astonished expressions. They prided themselves on having seen many prodigies, and because of Yun Ming, they had even developed immunity to such talents. Yet today, Jing Shaoyu's appearance had completely numbed them.

"A'Yu!" Ya Li called out, her voice as emotional as her expression. "You've completed your special training? You've broken through to Titled Douluo? This is truly wonderful!"

"Godmother, we're back," Jing Shaoyu replied, his smile warm and affectionate as he looked at Ya Li.

Even after sitting in the God of Battle Pavilion's conference hall, Cai Yue'er still felt a sense of unreality. How much time had passed? This little fellow, Jing Shaoyu, had already broken through to Titled Douluo? Was it really that easy? She distinctly remembered it had taken her ten years to advance from Soul Douluo to Titled Douluo back in the day.

Though Jing Shaoyu was the master of the God of Battle Pavilion and the dean of Shrek Academy, in the eyes of Elders like Cai Yue'er, he was still a child, a junior.

But now, they could no longer maintain such a perspective. This junior, a hundred or even two hundred years younger than them, had already reached the same level as them, leaving these old-timers feeling both pressured and helpless.

"A'Yu, when did you break through to Titled Douluo? If I recall correctly, you should still be two or three months away from turning twenty, right?" Ya Li asked, her eyes brimming with pride as she gazed at Jing Shaoyu.

"Yes, Godmother," Jing Shaoyu nodded. "It's been less than ten days since my breakthrough."

"A Titled Douluo at nineteen and a half!" Long Yeyue exclaimed, her eyes shining with excitement. "This is a miracle for our Shrek Academy! A miracle for the entire Douluo Continent! The whole continent must know about this!"

"I agree!" Cai Yue'er immediately voiced her support. "I think we should coordinate the announcement with Shaoyu's official position—it's perfectly justified!"

"Excellent idea!" Feng Wuyu enthusiastically thumped Zhuo Shi's thigh. "We originally thought it would take years before we could formally announce Shaoyu's appointment at the academy. Seems we were being short-sighted!"

"I approve!" Zhuo Shi slapped away Feng Wuyu's fist, equally excited. "This will surely restore our academy's prestige to its peak—perhaps even surpass it!"

Hearing the Elders' proposal, Ya Li didn't immediately agree. Instead, she turned to Jing Shaoyu and asked, "A-Yu, what do you think?"

"I think it's acceptable," Jing Shaoyu nodded in agreement. While he wouldn't proactively suggest such fame-seeking measures, he certainly wouldn't refuse them either. After all, if he wanted to unite the Soul Master world of Douluo Continent in the future, he would need this kind of reputation. "On our way back, we encountered an attack by Evil Soul Masters."

He recounted the Holy Spirit Church's ambush during their return. The Elders, all shrewd and experienced, immediately grasped the underlying intent behind his words.

"This is perfect!" Zhuo Shi clapped his hands. "It not only showcases Shaoyu's strength but also clearly states Shrek Academy's stance!"

"Indeed!" Long Yeyue nodded sagely. "Shaoyu, have you decided on your Titled Douluo name? Combining it with the announcement will maximize the impact."

"Personally, I lean toward 'Nature,' as it aligns with my Martial Soul," Jing Shaoyu said. He had given much thought to his title during the journey back, and Xu Xiaoyan and the others had offered many suggestions. In the end, he had settled on this balanced choice.

"No, no!" Ya Li immediately waved her hand in disagreement. "'Nature' isn't imposing enough. In my opinion, 'Eternal' would be far better. It also complements A-Yu's Battle Armor."

"Yes, yes! We agree!" Xu Xiaoyan and the other four present at the meeting immediately voiced their support for Ya Li.

"'Eternal Douluo'—I like it," Long Yeyue murmured, nodding in satisfaction.

Cai Yue'er, Zhuo Shi, and Feng Wuyu exchanged glances before nodding in agreement as well.

"Very well, let's make it 'Eternal,'" Jing Shaoyu conceded, seeing the consensus. After all, 'Eternal' had been one of his alternatives.

And so, the title of Eternal Douluo was officially decided!
