There is nothing any of his wives or legion is going to say that will stop Kent from blaming himself. He had killed the Night Riders, and while there may be a reason for all this, the fact that they died because of him made him feel terrible.
They are dead because of him. Even if he did it for a good reason, the point here is that they died, and he was the cause.
There is no denying that, and now that he knows, there is just nothing anyone can say that will change his mind.
The self-hate will grow in him for a while. But he will endure because while they died, they are now here, with him. That is something to be happy about.
Although he learned that he was at one point the leader of the Night Riders, he again didn't expect them to meet on those terms.
